Description

No. 807,098. PATENTBD DEC. 12, 1905.
A. M. VALENTINE.
LIMB APPLIANCE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 6. 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LllVlB APPLIANCE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
Application filed February 6, 1905. Serial No. 244,292.
T0 01% whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR M.VALENTINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at J anesville, county of Rock, State of Wisconsin, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Limb Appliances and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates in general to devices for concealing defects in the human form, and more particularly to pads for correcting the appearance of crooked legs.
A great many people unfortunately have legs which are not straight, thereby causing them considerable embarrassment, especially in the case of men whose trousers render the defect apparent.
The primary object of my invention is to provide means for hiding the fact that ones legs are crooked, which may be readily used without discomfort to the wearer.
A further object of my invention is to provide pads capable of being detachably secured to the underwear in such positions that when the underwear is worn the curved portions of the legs of the wearer will be filled out, whereby the defect is not only concealed when the underwear is worn, but as the pads are removed with the underwear their presence is not disclosed, thereby relieving the embarrassment of revealing the pads by their separate removal.
The embodiment of my invention herein disclosed may be generally described as consisting in a roll of soft flexible material of a length, width, and thickness corresponding to the bow in the legs and means for detachably securing the roll of material to the underwear in the desired positions.
My invention will be more fully described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which the same is illustrated as embodied in a convenient and practical form, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevational view; Fig. 2, a sectional view on line 2 2, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 a cross-sectional view, on an enlarged scale, of the pad detached from the underwear.
The same reference characters are used to indicate the same parts in the several figures of the drawings.
Reference-letter A designates a garment of underwearsuch, for instance, as gentlemens drawers.
A and A indicate the legs of the garment.
B and B designate pads attached to the legs of the garment and secured thereto by any suitable means. The pad may be conveniently formed of cheese-cloth folded into the desired length, width, and thickness.
When the pads are to conceal the fact that;
ones legs are bowed, the pads are secured to the underwear on the inside portions of the legs so as to extend the desired distance above and below the knees. The pads are preferably detachably secured to the underwear by suitable devices, such as safety-pins b thereby permitting the pads to be' detached from the garment when the latter is to be laundered.
The pads cause the inner surfaces of the legs of the garment to project inwardly, so as to cause the inner seams of the trousers to lie in straight lines.
From the foregoing description it will be observedthat I have invented an improved means for concealing such defects as bowas to cause no inconvenience to the user. Q
While I have described my invention as designed to conceal crooked legs, yet it is obvious that it may be applied to conceal other defects of the form, the essence of the invention being the detachable securing of the pads to the underwear at such positions as to fill out the natural curves.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a pair of drawers, of a pad composed of soft flexible material folded to a length, width and thickness to complement the curvature in the legs of a wearer, and means for detachably securing the pad to the leg of the drawers.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
A. M. VALENTINE.
