Description

PATENTED MAR. 6, 1906.
L. J. WOLFE. ARTIFICIAL BREAST. uranium! rnsn now: new.
INVENTOR y ATTORNEYS WITNESSES STATES PATENT OFFICE LAURA J. WOLFE, or COLUMBUS, onro.
ARTIFClAL BREAST Specification of Letters Patent.
resented March 8, 1906.
Application filed Hovember 4,1904. Serial No. 281,482.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LLAURA J. WOLFE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Artificial Breasts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful im rovement in artificial breasts.
he ob'ect of the invention resides in the construction of an artificial breast filled with an elastic material which obviates the liability of the breast losing its shape upon being punctured, as is the case with similar devices of the inflatable type.
' Another feature lies in the particular and peculiar shape whereby a flattenedextension or lobe-like portion is produced which when the device is placed in position hes at the side at the breast, thereby facilitating the production of a symmetrical bust.
Finally, the object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described that will be durable and eflicient and simple and com aratively inexpensive to make.
With t e above and othe objects in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction and operation a referable embodiment of which is descri e in the specifi cation and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a pers ective view of one of the artificial breasts. ig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section view.
In the drawin s the numeral 1 desi nates the casing of which the breast is forme As it is obvious that the breasts for both sides of the body will be substantially the same, a descri tion of one will suffice for both, and there ore it is thought that the showing of more than one artificial breast is unnecessary.
The casing 1 is formed of a suitable plastic and liable material, such as rubber, which may be colored and otherwise treated to lend to the same a realistic a pearance. In producing the casing 1 it is ormed with a nipple 2 and a central rounded enlargement 3,w ich latter mer es into the flattened extensions 4 and 5. T e casing at its innerend and the outer end of the extension 4 is provided with a mouth or openin 6, throu h which is introduced a material fifiing 7, suc as down, ciderdown, silk floss, and the like. After the easing has been sufficiently filled to give it sha e the opening 6 is hermetically sealedas, or instance, b the application of a suitable adhesive to t e inner walls of the openin 6 and the said walls pressed together, as 0 early indicated in Fig. 2. It is to be understood that the filling 7 is of such a nature as to hold the walls of the casing distended, but to yield and respond to ressure, thus makin the breast comfortable for the wearer an facilitating its realistic action.
If desired, the breast ma be formed upon its rear face with a central longitudinal deression 8 to receive the natural breast.
owever, when the device is a plied to the body it will readily adapt itsel? to the contour of the bust.
Particular stress is laid upon the flattened or lobe-like extension 5, which is adapted to lie along the side of the bust and give to the same the rounded and symmetrical appearance which would naturall result from an increased breast, as it wil be understood that when the female chest and bust increases in size itis not only the breast or gland which rows larger, but the fatty portions upon t e outer side thereof also increase.
In applying the artificial breasts they may,
be inclosed in a suitable fabric jacket or covering, to which any suitable means for attaching the device to the clothing or body of the wearer may be secured.
stantially hermetically-sealed casing of imervious material containing air and a soft own-like elastic material.
8. An artificial breast comprising a substantially hermetically-sealed casing of elas- IDS tic material which is impervious to air, constantially hermetically-sealed casing of rubtaining air and a soft elastic and readilyber containing air and readily-compressible compressible solid material, said casing havelastic solid material.
ing an enlarged central portion and a flat LAURA J. WOLFE. 5 tened and elongated side portion extending In presence of therefrom. i A. L. PHELPS,
4. An artificial breast comprising a sub- W. L. MORROW.
