TO ALL 'WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. RITCHEL, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Chalk and Sand-Paper Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionI thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and'use the came, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved chalk and sand-paper holder.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional view ot' the same, taken through the line x, tig; 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its. object to furnish a neat, simple, and convenient' chalk and sand-paper holder for billiard-cues, Vwhich shall be so constructed and arranged as to be easily carried in the pocket, so as to' be ready for use at any time; and it consists inthe combination ot" two recessed blocks with each other, as hereinafter more fully described. Y
A-and B are two circular blocks, the interiors of which are recessed to form a chamber for the reception of a cylindrical piece or block of chalk, C.
The adjacent edges of the two blocks A and B are formed, the one with an interior and the other with an exterior shoulder, fitting into each other. Y Y
The contiguous sides of said shoulders may be made smooth, as shown in tig. 2, or they may be made with screw-threads cut upon them, and fitting into each other. The latterV construction I prefer.
The central parts of the outersides o'r faces of the blocksA and B are cut away, as shown in figs. 1 and 2, so as to form circular` openings for the reception ofthe end ofthe cuevto be sand-papered orchalked, the sandpaper D being laid in the bottom ofthe recess in one of the blocks A B beneath the chalk, and with its sanded side towards the opening in the face or side of said block. i
By this construction of the holder, the chalk and sand-paper will be always ready, and in 'a convenient form to be used, the sand-paper being applied by inserting theend of the cue in the opening upon one side of the holder, and the chalk being applied by inserting the end of the cue in the opening upon the other side of said holder.
The blocks A and B may be made of wood, metal, or other suitable material, as may be desired or convenient.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved chalk and sand-paper holder, formed by the combination of the recessed blocks A and B with each other, said blocks being constructed and arranged substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES F. RlTCHEL.
