Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 12, 1906.
Application filed May 8. 1905. Serial '0. 259,410.
To aZZ whom it may concern,-
Be it known that I,W1LLIAM H. KELLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohey enne, in the county of Laramie and State of 1 Wyoming, have invented certain new and mprovements in Game Apparatus, of
useful I which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy game alley; and it consists, essentially, of an elevated board having a series of numbered boxes thereon and an alley having an upwardlyide the ball thereto, so that the element of chance may enter into the game to as great an extent as ossible.
It has for its object to PI'OdElOG a device of this character which will be very interesting and entertaining and which is at the same 1 time so simple in construction as to be cheaply 'ball projected along the al manufactured and placed upon the market.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device.
' Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view.
Fig. 3 1s a fied form.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the followin descriptlon and indicated in all the views 0 the drawings by the same reference characters. p
- The numeral 1 designates the alley, which is provided with sides 2, which form a support for the elevated board. 3.' This board perspective view of a slightly-modi- 3 has its upper surface partitioned and subvided into a plurality of boxes or squares 4, which may be numbered as desired. The alley 1 may be curved upward to meet the front side of the board 3, as seen in Fig. 3, or it may pass under the board 3, as seen 1n Fi 1, and terminate in an approximatelsemicircuiar curve 5, so arran ed as to t ow a ey, so that it will fall into one of the boxes 4 on the board 3. It will be observed that the upper portion of the curve 5 is extended .for a short distance along a tangent, so as to eliminate any chance of the pro ectile being misthrown. Where the alle curves up to the front of the board 3, it is esirable to place a stop or late 6 at the rear thereof, so that\a ball w1ll not be thrown entirely off the board, even though it be proj ected along the alley with a fairly good veloclty. A spring-gun 7 of any suitable construction is used in connection with the above-described apparatus to throw the projectiles.
,factor in laying the In operation a ball is placed in the s ringn 7 and shot or projected along the alley 1. %hen the ball reaches the upwardly-inclined portion, it is thrown a short distance through the air, so as to fall into one of the boxes 4, and counts for the player according\to the number ofthe box. It will be evident that owing to the uncertainty of the action of the upwardlly-curved end of the alleY it will be practica 1y im ossible for the p ayer to so project the ba that it will fall into any particular box and that the result will depend almost entirely upon chance. Another point to which I wish to call attention is the fact that this game alley as constructed by me may be made of a very few pieces of sheet metal, since the sides and bottom may be made integral, and the upturned end 0 the alley may be made either as an extension of the board 3 or of the bottom of the device, according to the form used. While chance is a game, nevertheless skill y practice is a controlling feature e taken into consideration. Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is 1. A game apparatus of the surface-projectiletype com rising an alley rovided with two longltudina sides, a board eld between said sides at one end of the alle in an elevated position, longitudinal and transverse intersecting vertical partitions on said board and dividing the same into a boxes, and said alleybeing provided'adjacent said boxes with an upwardly-deflected portioil, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. j ectile type comprising an alley provided with two longitudina sides, an elevated board held between said sides at one end of the alley, longitudinal and transverse intersecting partitions on the upper surface of said board and dividin the same into a and sai alley being provi of said board 'th an upwardly and rearwardl curved ortion, and rojectiles designe to trave over said al ey and be returned by the curved end thereof into the said boxes, as and for the lpugose set forth.
In testimony whereof a in presence of two witnesses.
