Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 26, 1906. 7
Application filed October 20,1905. Serial No. 283,607.
Tea/ll whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, J EANNE WALTER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the cit and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsy Vania, have invented a new and useful Gare ment, of which the following is a specification. Myinvention consists of a garment which is-formed, preferabl of soft rubber, to be worn next to the b0 y, Whereb perspiration and heat may be retained wit 1n the same for therapeutic purposes, and the members of the garment are integral and seamless, whereby chafing of the body Will be avoided and the escape of the perspiration and heat practically revented, whlle the garment, owing to its p iable nature, may be worn with ease and'comfort, it also serving the purpose of an abdominal bandage and a like appliance, thus avoiding the use of the latter and permitting the garmentto be worn close to the body without gathering, buckling, &c.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of diflerent members of garments embodying my invention shown in use. Fig. 2'is a per- 2 5 sgpective view of one of the different members. ig. 3 is a cross-section on the line :0 a; of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a'perspectiv'e view of the other member of the garment. Fig. 5 represents a section on line y y of Fig. 4.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures. I
Referring to the drawings, A desi nates an undergarment, as an undershirt, am? B designates an undergarment, as drawers, the parts of each member being formed of softrubber and integral.
In carrying out my invention I form the member A of the necessary parts, comprising the front, back, sleeve, &c.,of pieces of soft 4 rubber of the required size and shape, fit them. together at the places of meeting or where the are to be united, and then vulcan' ize the ru ber, whereby the material at said places fuses and seams apparentlyx originally 4 5 existing disa pear, the garment t us becomingrpractical y integral. I
e member B is formed of the necessary arts comprisin the front, back, waist, and,
egs of ieces 0 soft rubber of the required size an shape fitted together at the places of meeting or where they are to be united, the material then being vulcanized, whereby the body and adapted to complete it fuses at said places, and thus seams apparently originally existing disa pear, the garment thus becoming practica ly integral.
, Each member is provided with means for closing and fastening it at the proper place,
the same in the present case conslstm of lac ings. Which admit of adjustably closing the garment and for pur oses of strength are applied to reinforces and D, respectively, on the members, it being noticed that the garments are worn next to the body, air bemg revented from permeating the same and reac 'ng the'body, and they serve the pur-' pose of abdominal bandages, they resting snu 1y against the body Without gathering,
buc ling, &c., and they further serve to retain the perspiration and heat of the latter within the garments 'for therapeutic pin-- poses, especially for the reduction of adipose tissue or embonpoint, rheumatism, and the like, in a ra id and eiiective manner. It W1ll also be noticed that as there are no seams in the garments chafing of the latter on the skin or body is prevented, and the perspiration and heat practically remain within the garmenta The reinforces C D' are prevented from contacting with the body, owing to the soft-rubber flaps E and F on the respec' tive members, they being integral with the adjacent parts of the latter, and so prevent direct contact of said reinforces wlth the skin. It is also evident that the garments may be easily Washed, and thus kept entirely clean under all circumstances,
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim as new, and'desire to secure by L'ettersPatent, is
1. As an article of manufacture, an interal seamless therapeutic undergarment of the orm of ,a shirt or drawers composed of soft rubber, shaped to the res ectiveportion of the body ofthe wearer an adapted to com-f pletely mclose said portion, whereby evapo ration of the perspiration of the body and admission of air to t means for closing said garment.
2. As an article of manufacture,-anjinteal seamless therapeutic undergarment of the form of a shirt or drawers, composed of soft rubber shaped to the respective ortion of said portion, whereby evaporationof the e latter are prevented, and
