The invention relates to a cabinet particularly desi ed for holding spools or ro ls upon whichare ii round the e orated music-sheets instruments. 4 It is the object of the invention to obtain for automatic musica a construction in which a large number of.
spools maybe com actly stored; and it is a a symmetrical arrangement of parts so disposed that when the With'these objects in view the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter set forth. I
In the drawings,-
I igure 1 is a perspective View of the cabinet.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section thereof. Fig. 3 s a longitudinal s ection of a; ortion of the cabinet. horiz onta secti struction of cabinet.
As shownin Figs. 1,2, and'3, A is a suitable base, which may be provided with standards, such as the leg B. Upon the rear por- Fig. 4 is a tion of this base is mounted a spool-holding upper end with a section C, provided at its top D, which is preferably 0 base. v
. E and Fare two additional spool-'holdin sections and which are hinged to thebase g and t'opD. The manner in which these sections are hinged is such that when. open they are arranged upon opposite sides of'the center section C and in advance of the latter, while in the closed position these sections are arranged in alinement with the section O,'be
the form of the neath the top D and above the base A.
Each of the sections 0, E, and F is preferably of rectangular form, comprising-the sides a and b. a c are inclined tween the sides'a .shelves which extend beand formpockets in which the music-holdin spools may be placed. Eactlii of these g at shelves is centrally cut away to provide space for grasping the spool in inserting or remo f w it from the cabinet, and this s ace also discloses the title of the music, whic is usually rinted on the rolls near the. central portion t Specification of Letters Patent. .llpplicatiuu file d December 10,1904. by arranging the rolls upon'the shelves .withsections they form theirown index and any one may bereadily'found.
. In order that the sections E and F may swing in the manner described, the former is hinged at the center ofone side, as at e, and the latter at the corner ofthegsection, as at f. This will permit. the, section either into adjacence .to the section 0 or to one side of the latter, as illustrated in Fig. 1, both positions, being -in-- the same vertical plane. The hinging of,th'e section F is such that in the open position it will be arranged in thesame' plane as the section E, but in its closed position will swing in advance of the section E, as shown. The result of this-construction is to impart a symmetrical appearance to the case when the sections are open, while permitting them all to. be arranged beneath the top and to form a rectangular body in closed position. r
Difi'erent makes of musical instruments employ music-holding spools of varying lengths. My cabinet 1s so designed as to be capable of receiving the spools of. maximum length, while shorter spools may. also be stored therein upon the inclined shelves 0. The central cut-away portion d of the shelves 0 is therefore llmited in'l'ength, so that the E to be folded shortest roll will be supported at its opposite ends upon the end illustrated in Fig. 2.
In Fig. 4 Ihave illustrated a modified con- ,struction of the cabinet which is designed toaccommodate a greater number of the rolls. With this construction the outer section F and the rear, section ,0 aresimilar' to Figs. 1, 2,-and.3;. but intermediate these portions of the s elf,-as
sections are arranged a number of auxiliary sections. (immediately in front of the section C and is Thus t e section G is arranged slidmgly secured to, the base and top by means of suitable slotted guides G and pins (not shown) adapted to en I go; the slots therein, so as to be capable o? bein "withdrawn fire section E m front of the section G is formed double i. 'e., it isof twice the width of the other secprovided with two sets of rollholders. Thls section is hin ed and therefore swing int 1g, 1. When access to the rear set of rolls in the section E is desired said section may be swun' in-a partially-c fin dotted lines at at its center e same relative positlon to the section F as illustrated in too IIO
osed position, as E, Fig.4.- Thus.
the capacity of the cabinet is two additional sections.
What I claim as my invention i's 1. A cabinet comprisnga stationary back section and a plurality of overla ping sections pivoted forward of said bac sections to swing outwardly therefrom and to be compelled in swinging to pass into the same transverse lane forward of and upon opposite sides of said rear section, the respective sides of said pivoted sections forming in their increased by closed positions complementary portions ofthe sides of said cabinet 2'. In acabinet, the combination with a v stationary backsection and a base and top,
of a plurality of overlapping sections pivoted in said base and top forward of said back section to swing outwardly therefrom and to be compelled in swinging to pass intothe same transverse plane on opposite sides and forward of said rear section, the sides of said sections forming in their closed positions complementary portions of'the' sides of said cabinet.
A cabinet comprising a stationary back section, and a pair of'overlapping sectionspivoted forward of said back section, each of said sections being in the form of a tray,
the forward pair facing rearward and the rearsection facing forward and the sides of all 'bein in alinement in closed position, the ivots or said forward sections being so ocated as to permit of swinging said sections oppositely outward and to. compel them to pass into the same transverse plane arallel with but forward of the plane of t e rear section whereby all of the sections are open in front and a symmetrical arrangement is obtained.
4. A cabin'et comprising a stationary back section and a plurality of overlapping sections pivoted forward of said back section to swing outwardly therefrom and to be compelled in swinging to pass into the same transverse plane on opposlte sides of saidrear section, each of sald sections being in the form of a tray, and all openlng to the front in the open position of the sections, and
holders in sald sections for a vertical series of articles.
In testimony whereof I afl ix my signature in presenceof two witnesses. ROBERT J. (-ADY.
