GUGGLBS. APPLIoATIoN FILED JULY 5, 1906.`
UNITED sTaTi'is PATENT onirica.
EMIL B. MEYROWITZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THIS MEYROWITZ MANUFAC- TURIN G COMPANY, A
CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
GOGGLES.
Application filed July 5' To all whom it may concern:
Be itl known that I, EMIL B. ltiini'nowirz, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Goggles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to goggles or protecting glasses for the use ot' motorists and other persons, for preventing dust and par. ticles from entering the eyes.
The principal object of the invention is to improve and simplify the construction of goggles, and particularly to render them more easily applied and removed in use.
W'ith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, cornbination, in the location and in the arrangement ot parts, as hereinafter set l'orth and shown, and nally particularly pointed vout in the appended claims.
In the drawing: l*1 igurc 1 isa perspective view showing a pair ot goggles embodying the principlos'ot my invention; Fig. 2 is a front view ol the saine showing the goggles uni'astcned or unclasped.
The. ordinary forni of goggles includes a pair ol large, specially constructed glasses having rims adapted to closely engage the face ol the wearer, and having strings, or an elastic band passed around the head of the wearer, by which they are held in place.
' This arrangement only partially satisfactory, particularly Yfor use by ladies, since the usual hat and veil prevent the goggles from being either slipped over the head, or fastened behind the hair. In order to overcome this defect, it is necessary to avoid any fastening at the back of the head, and yet to allow the gogrles to he positioned without stretching an elastic baud over the hat and head of the wearer. Inv carrying out my invention I secure this result by having fasten ing means on the individual members of the goggles, which can thereby be attached in pl ace and by means within convenient reach of the wearer.
Referring now to thevdrawing in which like parts aredesignated by the same retcn I ence sign, 1 and 2 indicate the individual eye ieees or elements of a air of goggles. hese are substantially similar 1n iorm, having glasses 3, and cushions 4, which are yield- Specification of Letters .Patent.
Patented Nov. 19, 1907. 190s. sanar. 324.718. i
ing so as to conform to the face of the wearer.
The details o'l construction of these eye pieces may be of any description, and form no part ol the present invention, exce t as' to the fastening means hereinafter described.
Instead of having the twoeye pieces 01* elements permanently hinged or attached together as in the usual construction, I provide the goggle element 1 with a hook 5 xed thcretorand the goggle element 2 with an ey'e 6, which is adapted to receive the hook 5.
7 indicates a band preferably of elastic material, which is permanently attached to the eye pieces or goggle elements 1 and 2, at the points S. The length of this band is capable ot' being adjusted by a clasp or takeup device 0, of any suitable forni.
'In use it is merelynecessary to disengage the hooks 5 and 6, so that the band 7 can be conveniently stretched in the head of the wearer, an then the hooks 5 and 6 are rcclasped, bringinfr the two eyepieces or goggle elements 1 and position iu front ol' the. eyes. In addition to "itsiunction in of the goggles, tie fastening 5, 6, also consti tutes a pivotal or hinged connection between the two eye pieces in use, so that they conform more readily to the face of the wearer.
1. A protector `for the eyes comprising individiial eye pieces connected by a band adapted lo encircle the head oi the wearer,
are freely detaehably connected between the eyes of the wearer.
2. A protector lor the eyes comprising 1n- EMTL B. MEYnoWiT/i.
