IMPROVEMENT IN 'HARNESS-CONNECTION FOR LOOMS.

`To all whom it lIna/y conce/m Be it known that I, JOHN TAYLOR HOLDEN, of Elmwood, in the county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and usefullmprovement in Harness-Connection for Looms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the-art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of my invention.

This invention relates to an improved means for connecting the harness of looms to the treadles of the same; and

It consists in the combination, with said harness and treadles, of the devices constructed and arranged as will be hereinafter more fully described.

In the accompanying sheet of drawings- A represents a jack, which is attached, by hooks B B,to a treadle, G, of the harness, shown in red, and D is a rod which passes centrally through the jack, and. through metallic plates E E, fitted to the upper and lower edges of the jack, the rod and plates being secured in position by nuts a a, as shownclearly in both gures.

The lowerpart of the rod D, as well as the upper part, has a screw-thread, li, cut upon it.

On the lower screw-thread a tube, F, is tted and works, and in the lower end of this tube, a rod, G, is

fitted, and secured by a nut, c, in such a manner that the tube may be turned and screwed higher up or lower down on therod D, without turning the rod G. p

On the rod D, above the tube F, there is a nut, d,

by which the casual turning of F is prevented.

The lower end of the rod G is connected with the treadle H of the loom by means of a loop, e, of leather or other suitable material.

Itwill be seen from the above description, that this connection may be lengthened or shortened by turning the tube F.

The ordinary planis to connectl the handle with the treadle by means of a leather strap and buckle, the strap'being attached to the jack and treadle.

The strap frequently breaks, occasioning considerable annoyance and delaya diiiculty which is fully obviated by my improvement.

Having thus described my invention,

What I claim as new, and Adesire to secure by Lejff ters Patent, is-

The combination, with the harnessframe 0 and treadles-H, of the rods B, jack A, metallic plates E E, screw-rod D, sleeve F, swivelrod G, nuts a a, d, c, and the strap e, all constructed and arranged as described for the purpose specified.h
