ELEGTROGOSMETIC FACE-MASK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 1908.
Application filed August 26, 1907. Serial No. 390,153.
T all whom it mag "concern:
Be it known that we, GUsTAvE O. LAM- MERS, of Oakland, Alameda county, California, and SANFORD BENNETT, of Alameda,
: Alameda county, California, both citizens of worn at intervals durin the Uni ted States, have invented new and useful Improw ements in Electrocosmetic Face- Masks, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a device for the treatment of the face, and diseases of the skin thereof.
It consists of a rigid mask, molded, and fitting the face, and attachments through which an electric current may be passed.
Referring .to the accompanying drawing, for a more complete explanation of our invention, the figure illustrates a mask of this character.
Such a mask is constructed as follows: A plaster mold is first taken of the'face of the person to which the mask is to be fitted, andafter said mold has set, a wax positive facsimile 0f the face is made by using the laster or equivalent mask as a negative. T e wax positive having been finished is then coated with black lead in the manner usual for preparing surfaces for electro deposit,'and being placed in a solution of copper and an elec trical current passed'therethrough, the copper will be deposited, making an exact contour of the face of the person for whom it'is intended. We then take this mask and finish it by first plating it with silver to forma proper receivin surface, and upon this a thin platin of go (1 is deposited. The mask is then rea y for use. 7
Suitable openings may be made in the mask for the eyes, nostrils and mouth, and the mask so made is applied to the face of the wearer, and may be retained thereon by elastic cords connected with its ed es, or by other suitable means. Such a mas may be the day, or applied to the face and retained thereon" during the niglht.
he contact of the metallic surface with the face excites the capillaries, and the nerves and muscles of the face, and produces, a
stimulating reaction which is very favorable,
and muchjimproves the appearance of the face. In'case the face shows eru tions or other skin diseases, this action wil tend to "remove such disfigurement, and in cases of tan'or discoloration, it also exercises a bleaching effect.
The mask A may have a suitable attachment or attachments, as at 2, for wires 3,
- these wires being connected with any source of electrical energy (not here shown) and from Which a current or currents may be passed through the mask and through the surface with which it contacts. The stimulating effect of such electrical currents willbe of considerable value in the treatment.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is x 1. Adevice for the treatment of the face and diseases of the skin thereof, said device consisting of a rigid mask molded and fitting the indivldual face and formed of a materia capable of conducting an electrical current to the surface with which the mask contacts.
2. A device for the treatment of'theface and diseases of the skin thereof, said device consisting of a rigid metallic mask molded and fittin the face and serving as a conductor of an e ectrical current to the surface with which the mask contacts.
3. A device for the treatment of the face and diseases of the skin thereof, said device consisting of a ri id metal mask molded upon and accuratel tting the facial surface, and means to app y an electrical current through said contacting surfaces.
4. A face-mask fashioned as a substantial fac-simile of the face to which it is to be fitted, said mask being formed of metal and havin a metallic plating, and wires connecte to'the mask through which an-electrical current may be passed.
, In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two subscribing
