Be it known that I, CnAnLEs H. LIND, a citizen of the United States, residing at (Janton, in the county of Stark andState of'Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Physicians Cabinets; and I do iereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the doors open also showing the slidable shelf extended. Fig. 2 is a pers ective view showing the cabinet closed. Fig. 3 is a transverse section showing the doors open. Fig. 4 is a vertical section showing the doors closed. Fig. 5 is a view showing a portion of one of the doors and one of the adjustable shelves in position to be connected to the door. Fig. 6 is a detached view of one of the adjustable shelves. Fig. 7 is a vertical section of the cabinet body showing the movable shelf extended.

The present invention has relation to a physicians cabinet, and it consists in the novel arrangement hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.

In the accompanying drawing, 1 represents the base, which may be of any other desired form as the base within itself forms no particular part of the present invention.

'lhe base 1 1s for the urpose of supporting the back member 2 and the side members 3, which arts are connected in the usual manner an are formed of a height to correspond substantially with the height of the cabinet. To the back member 2 and the side members 3 is attached the top section 4, which may be of any desired form as its principal object is for the ur ose of adding to the ap earance of the nis led cabinet. To the siile members 3 are hinged the doors 5, which doors are so formed that they can and do carry adjustable shelves, which adjustable shelves are formed of such shape that articles such as usually required by a physician may be carried and held. These doors are so formed that when they are brought into the osition illustrated in Fig. 2 they will close t 1e front of the cabinet. It is well understood that in cabinets of this class different sized articles are to be placed and the shelves should be adjustably connected so that they can be moved or spaced to )rovide room for different sized articles such as bottles of medicine and in order to accomplish this result the side members of the doors 5 are each provided with the grooves (5, the backs of which grooves are provided with a series of inclined teeth 7, which inclined teeth are for the urpose of holding the various shelves 8 in ixed adjustment by means of the springs 9, which springs are provided with the outward extended portions 10, the bottom or under faces of said outward extended portions resting upon the .top of the teeth 7.

For the purpose of providing a means for disengaging the springs 10 from the teeth 7 so that the shelves 8 can be lowered after having been brought into an elevated position the extended portions 10 of the s rings 9 are bent so as to come under the shelves and in position to be conveniently reached. The side members of the doors 5 are provided with the flanges 11, which flanges are for the purpose of forming guides for the movement of the various shelves 8, the end members of which shelves are provided. with the shoulders 13, which shoulders abut against the faces of the flanges 11 when the shelves are brought into proper position with reference to the doors and in such a position that the springs 9 will be in position to bring the extended portions 10 mto proper engagement with the teeth 7. The end members of the shelves 8 are also provided with the shoulders 14, which shoulders abut against the flanges 15. It will be understood that the portions of the end members between the shoulders 13 and 14, will be seated between the flanges 11 and 15 so that there will be no accidental displacement of the shelves when the doors are turned upon their hinges. In order to bring the end members into proper position so that the flanges 15 and 1] will hold the shelves proper the lower portions of the flanges 15 are cut away so as to allow the shelves to be placed within the doors 5. in assembling the shelves each shelf is brought into position so that the springs 9 together with their.

extended portions 10 will register with the grooves 6 and when in that position the shelves will move upward until each shelf is brought into the desired adjustment. Any desired number of the shelves 8 are provided with the step shelves or ledges 16, and for the purpose of providing a means of preventing is exten ed as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 7' said bars assume the osition shown in Fig. 7 The free or lower en s of the bars 19 are pro vided with notches, which 'notches engage the pins 20, and thereby hold the shelf 18 in an extended position. The to or upper portion of the cabinet is provider with any de sired number of shelves and drawers 21 and 22 which are arranged substantially as shown in the drawings.

I am aware of the fact that it has heretofore been suggested to .provide the doors of cabinets with bottle carrying sections or compartments, but in these earlier instances the sections or com artments within the doors were not readi y adjustable up and down to accommodate them for supporting various sized bottles, nor were they provided at either end with simultaneously operating means for holding them in adjusted position. Again with the earlier constructions in which bottles were supported in vertical position, the bottles were liable to be thrown out of the shelves if the doors were shut with a sudden jolt. In the cabinet which I have devised the shelf sections are readily adjustable with the bottles upon them, so that the to s of the bottles on one 'shelf may be broug it practicall into engagement with the bottom of the she f or section above them, merely by pressing upward on the section, in such a manner that the bottles cannot be gotten out Without either raising the shelf above or lowering the one carrying the bottles or bottle which it is desired to remove.

The adjustable sections which are provided with two or more shelves or bottle supports for relatively small bottles have these shelves positioned one behind the other inascending series and each with a suitable bottle retainer. This enablesme to efficiently utilize all of the space within the doors, which must be of sufficient width to accommodate adjustable sections wide enough to carry bottles of relatively large diameter.

In order to fully utilize all of the space within the cabinet the drawers 22 are of sufficient -width so that two of them may be arranged edge to edge within the cabinet at either side of the median line thereof, on which the doors close. With this arrangement the operator has access to the drawers on either side of the cabinet by simply openscarce ing the door on that side, so that it is not' necessary for him to open both doors for this urpose. The advantage of this is appglrlent om the fact, that if the doorsare of bottles, it is desirable to open each one of them only when necessary.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a physicians cabinet, the combination with the cabinet frame, of doors provided with side members hinged to said frame, said side members being formed with longitudinal grooves the backs of which are toothed, and shelves adjustably mounted in arranged to engage the adjacent toothed rack and having a suitable finger tang or release beneath the bottom wall of the section, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

3. In a physicians cabinet, the combination of a suitable frame, a chambered door hinged to said frame, and a bottle carrying section mounted within said door and arranged for vertical adjustment therein, said section having a plurality of shelves one behind the other in ascending series, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

4. In a physicians cabinet, the combination of a suitable frame, a chambered door hinged to said frame and having each of its side walls vertically grooved, a vertically arranged toothed rack carried by each .of said side walls adjacent to the rear wall of said groove, a plurality of bottle carrying sections adjustably arranged in said door each having at either end a tongue for engagement with the walls of the groove in the adjacent side wall of the door, and outwardly projecting spring pawls, each carried by one of; said tongues and adapted to engage the teeth of the adjacent rack, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
