. The movable member of my improved spring hinge or the member prefera ly at. tached to the door consists of a frame referably made up of a bottom iece 4 en a top piece 5. The forward en of the bottom piece 4 is turned upwardly at 4 and the ends of the top piece 5 are turned downwardly at 5. The end 4 of the bottom plecc and the forward end 5A of the top piece are preferably secured together by means of the screw S.

A pair of transverse pieces 6 are provided, the purpose of which will be rought Aout in detail as-the description proceeds. -The frame is preferably securedl to' the door at its lower edge by means of the slotted plate 9, which is secured by suitable screws as 9. The plate 9 is provided with a head of the T-shaped stud 1l on the frame, when presented longitudinally thereto. The hinge member or floor plate 23 is provided with a cylindrical socket 24 adapted to receive the disk-like cylindrical base'20 on the post 1Q. rThe base 20 is rotatably seatedv .in the socket and is provided with notches 21 in its periphery, which are engaged by the set screws 22, thereby adjustably securing the post in the socket. The post is provided with a head 17, 'provided with a pair of upwardly projecting studs 18, the studs being preferably )rovided with bearing rollers 18/.
The head of the reciprocating member 12 is adapted to bear against the bearing rollers of the head, which are eccentrically arranged relative to the center of the head.or post. The bottom piece of the frame is pivotally mounted on the post between the base and the head thereof, the post being provided with a suitable bearing 25 forthe frame, and the frame also bears on the top of the floor plate, orthe socket portion thereof and on the base of the post. .This effectively su ports the movable portion of the hinge on t e fixed portion. the door is swung, carrying the movable member with it, the head ofthe reciprocating member 12-bearing on the iXed rollers 24 is forced rearwardly, thereby contracting the As soon as the door is released, the spring returns the parts to their normal position.
