FRANCIS S. KROENUNG, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
TOY FGUNTAIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 6, 1909.
Application filed December 7, 1908. Serial No. 466,4=03.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS S. KROENUNG, citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Fountains, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention has relation to improvements in toy fountains; and it consists in the novel details of construction more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention with all the parts assembled; Fig. 2 is a perspective showing the tank-casing removed, and part of cover of the catch-basin broken away; and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional detail of the fountain-basin and nozzle or spout therefor.
The object of my invention is to construct a house or toy fountain associated with a model of a dwelling house or other building, and the representation of a lawn or garden, with a view of imitating a fountain in the midst of natural environments and surroundings. A toy of this character will afford considerable amusement and be a lit adjunct to Christmas trees, toy buildings and the like.
The invention resides in details of construction which may be described as follows Referring to the drawings, 1 represents an oblong tank or container supported 011 posts 2, 2, at each end, the posts resting on the floor of a basin 3 from which leads upward through the bottom of the tank a pump cylinder C, the pump being of the ordinary old form of lift pump, operated by a plunger 4, the discharge spout 5 discharging directly into the tank. The basin 8 serves as an overflow or catch-basin for the fountain, the latter comprising a vertical jet nozzle or spout 6 mounted centrally in the water-basin 7, the lower end of the nozzle communicating with the adjacent end of the long leg of a siphon tube 8 suspended from the edge of one of the terminal walls of the tank, the short leg of the siphon reaching to the bottom of the tank. The bottom of the basin 7 is provided with openings 0 to discharge into the overflow or catch-basin 3. The bottom of the tank is further provided with a nipple 9 closed by a screw-cap 10, which upon removal permits the coupling of any suitable valve-controlled pipe or hose which may be furnished with a second jet nozzle should such sprays be desired for the fountain. In the latter case of course the discharge of the water would be due to the static head of the body in the tank, and would not depend on siphoning as would be the case with the nozzle 6. The cover or lid of the basin 3 serves to support the fountain-basin 7 and may be of any ornamental design, that shown in the drawing representing a lawn L and pathway P leading to and from the fountain.
The tank 1 with its supporting posts 2 are inclosed in a casing A the front of which represents an elevation of a dwelling to which the pathway P, leads, the tube or siphon leg 8 being confined and protected between the tank wall and the adjacent wall of the casing.
The roof R of the casing represents the roof of the house and is detachable for convenience of assembling the parts. The roof has a central projection or frame 11 of sufiicient height to incase the upper end of the pump cylinder, and is provided with a hinged lid 12 for ready access to the pump when occasion to operate the latter arises.
The tank being filled with water, the latter flows through the siphon 8, being discharged through the jet-nozzle 6, falling back into the fountain basin 7. Thence it is discharged into the catch-basin 3, whence it is pumped again back to the tank 1 so that the fountain may be kept running indefinitely. If the water from the catch-basin be pumped back before it is entirely discharged from the tank, the fountain will operate continuously.
As stated before should two separate sprays be desired, the cap 10 on the nipple 9 may be removed and a second jet pipe attached.
The lawn is inclosed by a fence F, the whole being made to appear like a dwelling with grounds and lawn and fountain, and thus afford considerable amusement.
Having described my invention, what I claim is In a house-fountain, a tank or container having a centrally disposed lift pump, a
siphon leading from the tank, a catch-basin In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
for 1the Water removed by the siphon, a casing in presence of two Witnesses. inc osin the tank a cover for the casin a 1 1 T T projectihg frame tormed on the cover 311d E 'BRABOIS KROENUBG' 5 eneompasslng the pump, and a lid on said i Witnesses:
