To all whom it md'y concern:
Be it known that I, Gnoaen A. DONNELLY,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Dispensing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification;
This invention relates to means for disensing measuredquantities of fluid or semi- Bid material, and is herein shown as 'embodied in a-device that is particularly in tended for dispensing liquid soap.
One of the objects of the invention is to rovide improved means for positively and orcibly discharging the material, in order to obviate choking or clogging of the apparatus. 7
Another object is to simplify the construction of devices of this class, with a view to. cheapness, increased durability, and freedom from liability to derangement.-
A furtherobject is to provide an improved bracket for supporting. the device. The invention also relates to the other improvements and advantages hereinafter- -set forth.

The embodiment herein shown of my invention comprises a container 1, which may be in the form of a bottle, as shown, provided with a cap which cap may have a vent 3 therein to admit air to the container to take the place of the fluid discharged, Said container is supported upon a base 4 which carries the valve mechanism that controls the flow of soap, an annular flange 5 extending upward from said base holding the container in place upon said base.
The valve mechanism comprises a cylinder 6 formed in the base 4, the bore of said cylin der being, in this instance, smaller at its for,- ward end than at the rear, thereby forming a shoulder or annular valve seat 7. A port 8 connects the container 1 with the cylinder 6, and adischargc port 9 leads from'a' point slightly forward of the valve seat 7 to the front of the base 4. The rear end of the cylinder may be closed. by a screw plug 10.
A plunger 11 is slidably mounted in the cylinder 6, the ends of said plunger being of different diameters to conformto the bone of the cylinder. A shoulder 12 on said plunger is arran ed to be normally held against the shoul er or valve seat 7 by the action of a coiled spring .13. The plunger 5 11, in this instance, is hollow, a portion of the spring 13 lying within said plunger, the 5 end of said spring opposite the piston beingseated in a recess '14 formed on the screw plug 10. An annular channelor depression 15 in I the periphery of the forwardend of the ,70 plunger 11 forms a space between said plum ger and the cylinder wall, which space is adapted to be placed in communication with the larger end of the cylinder and the interior of the plunger 11, when the plunger 111's moved away from its seat 7, through ports 16 extending through the walls of the plunger, said plunger, between the shoulder 12 and ports 16, being reduced in diameter to allow the fluid'to flow from-the ports16 to so the groove 15.
The stem 17 of the lung-er llextends through the forward ent of the cylinder 6 and carries a button 18 for convenience'in moving said plunger. The shank of the butprises, in the present-instance, grooves 19 in which the arms 20 of a supporting bracket 21. are arranged to slide, a screw 22 extending through said bracket, and into the'screw plug 10, preventing the base from being removed from said bracket. The bracket may be fixed to a support in any suitableway as-by screws 23.
In assembling-the device, the plunger 11, with the spring 13 therein, is inserted through the rear end of the cylinder 6, the 1-00 plug 10 screwed into said rear end of the cylinder, and the button 18 attached to the stem of the plunger. I I
In operatlon, when it is desired to draw a quantity'of soap from the container 1, the plunger 11 is forced inward against the ac= tion of the coiled sprin 13 to remove the shoulder 12 from the valve seat 7, when the liquid can flow from the interior of the I plunger 11 through ports 16 into the groove 15 and out'throu-gh the dischar e port 9.
After the rear end of the plunger as passed the port 8, pressureis put u on the liquid to force it out as the inwar movement of the plu'n er continues.

I claim as my invention: r i 1. In dispensing apparatus, iii-combination, a.cylinderf having a discharge port and an annular valve seat, and a hollow plungeradapted toseat against said valve seat, said plunger having an annular peripheral depression in its end adjacent said discharge port to form a spacebet'ween the plunger and the wall of said cylinder, said plunger having a portarranged to place the interior thereof in communication with said space.

In dispensing apparatus, in combination, a cylinder having an'inlet port, a discharge port, and an annular" valve seat therein, and a hollow plunger in said cylin- (let, a portion of said plunger being reduced in diameter to form an annular shoulder arranged-to en age said valve seat aridiornu in a space etween said portion and the cy inder communicating .withthe discharge port', said plunger having a port arranged to place the mlet end of, said cylinder and the interior of said plunger in communication with said space, and said plunger being .arranged to cut oil the inlet port in itsinitial -move1nent, whereby further movement. of

In dispensing apparatus, in combination, a cylinder, the bore of which is of smaller diameter at one end than at the other to provide an annular valve seat, the smaller end of said cylinder having a discharge port; and a plunger having an annular shoulder thereon to seat against said valve seat, said plunger being peripherally grooved to form a space communicating with said discharge port, said plunger having a port therein rearward of said shoulder, and said plunger being adapted to place said port in communication with said groove. 7

In dispensing apparatus in combination,'a container; a cylinder lying horizontally below and wholly outside of said container, said cylinder being of s'maller diaineter at one end than at the other to form an annular valve seat, said cylinder having an inlet port in its larger end communicating with said container and a discharge port in its smaller end; and a hollow plunger in said cylinder hav' a shoulder arranged to lie against said va ve seat, the eriphery of the smaller end of said plunger eing grooved to form a space between said peri hery and the interior of said cylinder, said plunger having a port adapted to place the interior of said plunger in communication with said space when said plunger is 'Slld to move said shoulder away from said valve seat; and
