Description

A, A. SMITH. ADJUSTABLE SHELVING. APPLICATION FILED JAN.14. 1909.
Patented June 1, 1909.
' ADAH 1A. SMITH,
Application filed-January 14,1909. Serial K6 4723532 i i :T 0 all whom it may. Mami- Be it known that I, ADAH A. SMITH, a citizen'of the United States, residing at lfiedford, I
in the county of Taylor and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Imrovements in Adjustable Shelving; and I do geclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it qppertains to make and use the same.
s inventionrelates to improvements in shelving and comprises the production of a shelvin which may be adjusted to fit rounde places.
One of the objects of the invention is the production of a simple shelving comprising supporting rods provided with spacing sleeves and a series'of shelves having curved slots formed therein in such manner that the shelves may be adjusted in thearc of a circle.
With this and other objects in view, the
invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of partsias will be described and particularly pqinted 'out in theappended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a erspective view of my improved adjustab e shelving; Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of Fig, 1; and Fig. 3-is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 33of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of thespacing sleeves; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the spacing partitions.
"'1 fer' ng to the drawings, 1 den'otessup porting rods which are provided at their ower ends with rubber foot blocks; 2. A plurality of sleeves, 3, is arranged around the rods 1, which sleeves are'formed in sections and a series of shelves, 4, is arranged on the rods 1 and spaced apart thereon by the sections of the sleeves, 3.
A part of the'shelves 4 is formed with I slightly curved slots, 5, which are arranged near the outer corners and the adjacent she ves are formed with rod 0 eiiings, 6, wt ch are-adapted to register wit 1 the slots, The character of the curvature of the siots, 5, Will, of course, depend upon the exact curvature of the room or place in which it is desired to arrange the shelving. shelves, 4, may be arranged in a straight line or in the arc of a circle,.accordingly as desired, and when arranged in the latter mannor the rod openings 6 will occupy an inner position against the slots 5, and when ar- 0F BEDFORD.,110W,A. 3

Specification of Letters I-atentii a The Patented Ja l 6 ranged 'iif the op'pos .0. meme, Kid "'ii'id openings will occupy an opposite position.
Each'of the sleeve sections is formed with end slots 7, which arcnrran 'm'l to receive tongues, 8, formed on vertical partitions, S), which partitions are constructed oi a length equal tothat of the sleeve sections and serve to support the shelvos,4. The partitions S) are arranged lengthwise and crosswise on the shelving so as to close the space on the rear side of the shelving when z'tsscmbled, and to divide the shelving into blocks or cells. The upper portions of the rods 1 been assembled thereon, said shelves are secured to the rodsby nutst'hrcadcd to the upper rod ends;
' From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the mvcn tlon Wlll be readily understood without re.
quiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes 1n the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be ciple or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as dciirusd in the appended "elaims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is:
1. A plurality of horizontally disposed shelves arranged with the adjacent ends 3. An adjustable shelving comprising supporting rods provided with foot rests, a series of spacing s eeve sections mounted on the supporting rods, shelves supported on the rods and spaced by the sleeve sections, and means for adjusting. the sleeves in the arc of a circle.
porting rods rovided with foot rests, a series of spacing s eeve section: mounted on the rods, each of the sleeve sections being formed threaded and when all of the shelves haveresorted to without departing from the prin-v thereof overlapping, the inncneorncr of onebe adjusted therewith in the are of a circle.
l'liil 4.' An adjustable shelving co'niprisilng suplli) with end slots, anda series of artitions formed with end tongues secure by said tongues to the sleeve sections.
5. An adjustable shelving comprising supporting rods provided with foot rests, a series of sleeve sections formed with end slots .mounted on the supporting rods, shelves formed with corner slots sup )orted on the rods and spaced thereon by t e sleeve sections, shelves supported on the rods and spaced thereon by the sleeve sections adjust- I able in the arc of-s circle with the first-mentioned shelves, and partitions having tongues securedby said tongues in the slotted ends of l the sleeve sections.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto sot my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' ADAH A SMITH.
