Description

To whom it may concern:
Abeing had to the accompanying drawings, n'iakingpart of this specification.
My invention relates to a construction of truss particularl y designed to correct abnormal conditions oi' the uterus.
A is a pad, preferably of metal, adapted to bear against the lumbar vertebra.
B is a'steel bar, proceedingr from one end of said pad, und having hinged to it, at C, a second bar, D, curved in continuation of the tbrmer, and adapted to be set in or out, by means of set-screws D D.
l lbe bar D terminates in a block, E, to which two abdominal pads, F F', are secured by pivots fjl The opposite end ot the pad A to the bar B is provided with an extensible strap, G, having eyelets g, either one ot' which is engaged over a knob, ll, on the block E.
"lhe block E has a stud, c, which engages on one or other orifice, V1l, ot' a bar, U, to which is hinged a similar bar, J, which terminates in a sink or basin, K, whose outlet t passes into a screw-neck, L, for the attachment oi a sack or pouch, M, ot' caoutchouc, or other suitable material.
Rising from the sink K, immediately over tbe outlet, is a tripod, N, having a point, Im, which enters at its lower end and supports the hollow stem O oi' my poss-ary 0 I, whose tunnel-termed top l, is adapted to receive and support the mouth ofthe uterus, so as to hold it to its normal position, the hollow stem serving to conduct oit' all uterine excretions into the sink l( and sack M and to prevent theirI contact with the walls ot'the vagina. u
'.lhe pes-sary 0 l. is capable of assuming easily any inclined positioinso as to canse no restraint, and its interior is lined with lsilver or gold, so as to avoid ir-v l'iizliioll.
The bar U, being engaged by its appropriate aperture over the stud c, is secured thereto by a catch, Q.
The opposite end ot the sink K to the bar J, has an extensible strap, R, having eyelets r, which engage over a stud, S, at the baci: of the lumbar pad.
.lo prevent the strap lt drawing inconveniently into the saeral cavity, and causing irritation, I provide ELL, or COLDWATER; MICHIGAN.

IMPROVED UTERINE SUPPORTER.
m The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part 0f the same.
upon said strap a shiftable pad or bag, T, of India rubber, having orifices t't at its lupper part, through which the air can circulate freely, so as to prevent heating.
It will be observed that the pessary can, by shifting of the bar U on the stud e, be elevated ordepressed, so as to suit the requirements of the patient.
The sac M having only a small neck, just sucient to admit the cxcretions aforesaid, the latter, when once in the sac, are not liable to be spilled or thrown out ofthe same byvarious positions of the body.
This instrument is well adapted as a means of rectilication ofthe various abnormal positions of the uterus; thus, for example, for simple prolapsns meri, the pessary may be elevated bodily, by the elevation` 0i' the bar U and strap R; for anteversiou, the former may be slackened, and the latter tightened; while for retroversion of tbe uterus, the adjustment is of' course reversed.
In practice, I spring D, so as to escape the crest ofthe ilium.
Besides the uses already indicated, the sink K and sac M, together with the bar U and strap R, suspended from agirdle, may be made available for the monthly, or catamenial flow, and for leucorrha and other vaginal excretions.
The pads F may be attached directly to the spring I), so as to dispense with the block E.
I claim herein as new and of my invention- 1. The adjustable funnel-formed pessary O P, supported loosely on the tripod N in, over the outlet of the sink K, from which depends the narrow-necked sac or pouch M, substantially as described, and for the purposes atbresaid.
2. In combination with the above-named parts,.the
devices -wherebythe pessary ismade adjustable inA height and direction, consisting of the strap R, sl1ifting-bar U, stud e, and catch Q, substantially as described.
3. In combination with the strap It, the shift-able and ventilated rubber bag T, substantially as described, and for the purpose before explained.'
In testimony otwhich invention, I hereunto set'my hand.
