LOCKING DEvIoE Fon BOTTLES on 'rim LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patenteduune s, 1909.
Application ined May 12, 1908. serial No. 432,400.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROY C. GREEN, a citizen of the United States', resident of Cleveland, county. of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in LockingDevices for Bottles or the Like, of which the following is aA specification, the rinciple of the invention being herein exp ained and the best mode in Which I have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it `from other inventions. My invention relates to means for locking bott es and their contents, umbrellas, or other articles, to a fixed or irreI-novable support such as a door casing or other fixed part of a house.
- The object of the invention is to pe''mit'of such locking and release in a ready, efficient manner by simply operated means', and so as to prevent the removal of the locked articlef by unauthorized persons..
The said invention consists of means hereinafter fully described and particularly set ,forthin the claims. l
The annexed drawing and anism embodyingjmy invention, the vdescribed means, however, constituting .but one of various mechanical forms by means of which the principle of the invention may-be applied.
In said annexed drawings z-Figure 1 is a plan of a device embodying my invention showing the parts in their closed position.
. vation, a milk bottle being shown in position Fig. 2 is a sideelevation and Fig. 3 a rear eleand in dotted lines. Fig. 4 is a plan withthe protecting cover broken away showing the parts in their closed position, also showing a horizontal section oi" a bottle in place therein.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to that of Fig. 4 showing the parts in their open position.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a main ,supporting member which .is formed with an angular member a provided with screw holes a by means otwhich it may be secured to a building or other suitable Fsupport. The free end of this member A lis forked, as shown in Fig. 2, toform a bearing for two clasping members B and C which are pivoted upon a rivet a2 passing through and secured to said fork. Formed integrall with each member B and C are extensionsli and c, and the said members 4are provided with lugs b and c to which the res ective ends of a helical spring D are secure Figs.
the following `description set forth in detail certain mech- 3 and 4. This spring tends to normally maint-ain the two clasping members in their open position, Fig. 5, in which position their outer. or Lfree ends are separated a distance `from each other sufficient to permit of the passage of the neck of a bottle therebetween and form a bottle receiving space. hen these members occupy said` describedopen position, the extensions b and c intersect such bottle receiving space as shown.- The one member is provided with a laterally located staple-b2 which is adapted to enter a spring lock c2 fixed to the other member C, and arranged to secure same when the said members arein their closing position. When in the latter position and locked, the outer orA free ends of the members B and C are sufiiclose to each other to prevent the cientl latera withdrawal of the'bottle, Without unlockingthe staple. Extending over the botwhich isy securely riveted to the supporting member A, Figs. 1 and 2. This cover prevents tampering with the bottles contents by protecting the bottles closure.
In operating the device, and assuming the parts to be in their normal or open position, a bottle F is passed between the outer ends of members B and C so as to bring the flangeF thereof above the said members. A continued movement of the bottle into the receiving space, causes such neck to engage the two extensions b and c, and a further movemembers- 'around the said neck, causing staple bzfto engage the lock and become fas- VVhat -I claim, theretore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1.. In la device oi' the character described, the combination of a main or supporting member; two clasping members pivotally .mounted upon said member, having a common axis, forming a 'bottle-receiving space, and capable of assuming an open and a closed position; yielding means for normally maintaining said clasping members in their open position, each such member provided with an extension intersecting such space when said members are in their open position; a lock mounted upon one of said members and adapted. when the latter are in. their closed posit-ion to'engage and lock the other of -said members.
. 2. In a device of the character described,
the oombinationol' a supporting member;
lment Willspread these extensions and closev tlc-receiving space is a protecting cover E tened` therein, as will be readily understood.
tWo olasping members'movable upon said arein their closed position; and means for I supporting member and-forming abottle-renormally" maintaining sueh elasping mem- 10 oeiving space; means connected with said bers in their open position. y olasping members normally intersecting such Signed by me, this 11th day of May; 1908.
