Laim-Patent No. 92,872, dazed July 2o, 1ste.
IMPROVEMENT IN OILERS FOR MACHIERY.
The Schedule referredito in these Letters- Patent and making parli 0f the 5am@ To all whom itmay concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. MoRToN, of Biddeford, in the county of York, and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Oiling Machinery; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionv thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art 'to make and use the same, reference being had to the aocompanying drawing, formingpait of this speciiication, in which- The figure is a sectional elevation of my improved apparatus. l
The object of this invention is to' provide an improved portable oilin,1:-apparatus for machinery, whereby the oil may be supplied, in measured quantities, and thrown in jets in such places as it is ditlicult to reach readily, and which may be also used with equal facility for ordin-ary purposes.
It consists of an oil-vessel, provided with a pump, and a directing-tube, and so constructed that it may be held, and the pump worked by one hand, while the vtube may be guided by the other, as will be more fully described on reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- A represents a suitable oil-vessel, which is provided with a pump, B, having a convex perforated disk secured 'to the bottom thereof, and by which it is secured, by soldering or otherwise, to the bottom ofthe'vessel. The discharging-tube of the pump projects through the side f the vessel, and is suitably connected to a curved directing-tube, D, rising above the vessel on the side, and which is encased ina protecting pole, of wood or other suitable material, securedl vertically. to the side of the'vessel, or the tube mayrise out ot' the top, if preferred.
The barrel of the pump is made detachable from the lother part, and provided with suitable means vfor applying a screw-drivel' or wrench for unscrewing it, when it may be desirable to do so for roaming it in case it becomes worn, and for which an opening of sufficient t. size is 'made through the top of the vessel and stopped by the perforated plug E, through which the stem of the plunger Works.
This cap a, of the pump, is placed loosely'thereon, and maintained in its position vertically by the spng b, interposed between it and the adjustable collar d on vthestem ofthe pump-piston, whereby it is maintained in an elevated position, ready to effect a discharge of oil by being forced down.
The amount of the throw ofthe piston, and thereby the quantity of oil yielded, is governed by the position of the said ring on the stem.
F represents an opening for supplying oil to the vessel.
To operate my improved oiling-apparatus, it issuspended by the head of the plug E, between the iingers, with the thumb in the ring on the top ofthe piston-stem, While the tube D may be directed by the other hand towards the point to be lubricated, when, by forcing the plunger down by the thumb, the jet will be thrown out with considerable force, suicientto deliver the oil at places not easy of access, and at considerable distance.
Having thus described my invention,
I `claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The portable hand-oiler, consisting ofthe vessel A, pump B, and the vertical-discharge and directing tubes, the pump being arranged within the vessel upon the perforated convexdisk C, with its piston-rod extending through the screw-plug E in the top of the vessel, and with its lateral pipe communicating with the discharge tube upon the side ot' the vessel, all as herein described, whereby the oiler is adapted to-be held and -'tube D is guided by the other, as herein set forth and S. P. MGKENNEY.
the pump operated by one hand, while the directing-
