To all'whom 'it may concern:
4 Be it known that ll, VICTOR DURAND, Jr.,
l a citizen of the United States, residing in Vineland, county of Cumberland, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Protector for the Necks of Bottles, of which the following is a specilication.
My inventlon relates to a new and useful vessel for the conveyance or storage 'of liquids and consists in providing a protector L for the neck of a vessel.
It furtherv consists of other novel details ofconstruction, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure l represents a vertical sectional view of a vessel for the conveyance or storage of liquids, a portion only of the glass receptacle bein sectioned. Fig. 2 represents a sectiona view of a-portion of the device on an enlarged scale.
l have found in practice that in the `vesl sels now in use upon the market for the convlimited in every instance to the exact construction shown and described but desire to make such changes as may be necessary.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures. v
Referring to the drawings :-1 designates a vessel for the conveyance or storage of liquids, the same consisting of the two receptacles 2 and 3, which are preferably of glass and are suitably connected together, forming the space 4c therebetween, from which the air is evacuated or exhausted forming a vacuum between the receptacles,.the walls of which having been previously supplied with a suitable coating of silver 5.
6 designates a casing which is adapted to receive the receptacles, said casing being preferably of metal and being formed to provide a space between it and the outer receptacle inwh-ich space is adapted to be seated any suitable means for holding the receptacles in proper position. ln the present instance l have shown a corrugated cardboard 7 for this purpose. rlhe neck of the casing 6 is formed with threads 8 and is turned inwardly forming thetop of the receptacle and then downwardly around the inner wallof the neck of the glass receptacle '2, it being understood that iny this way I forni aguard or protector 9 for the neck of the receptacles, said guard extending downwardly a suitable distance into the neckand serving at the same time as an additional means for positively holding the receptacles in proper position with respect to the casing. From this it will be understood that I the necks of thereceptacles of` glass are thoroughly protected` and are thus prevented,
from breakage which so often occurswhen the stopper or cork is inserted therein, forv in the present construction the stopper of the receptacle will contact. only with the metal guard.
While I have shown the guard as being integral with the casing it will of course beV apparent. that the saine can beformed sep arately therefrom and connected therewith in any suitable or desired manner, the prini ciple of the guard being to protect the neck of the glass receptacle as before stated.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.:- i
l. In a device of the character described, receptacles suitably connected and having a vacuum therebetween, and a casingzfor said receptacles inclosing the-same and provided with a guard or protector ,extending within the neck of the inner receptacle.
2. In a device of the 'character described, a plurality of receptacles suitably connected and having a vacuum therebetween, a casing for said receptacles, means between the outer receptacle and said casing for lholding the parts in proper' position, and a rigid protector carried by the casing and projecting within the neck of the inner receptacle and closing at the top the space between the casing and the outer receptacle.
3. In a device of the character described, a plurality of receptacles suitably connected together and having a vacuum therebetween,
a casing for said receptacles, means for -holding the receptacles in proper position Within the neck of said receptacles and serving as additional means for holding said receptacles in proper position within said casin'g.
4. In a device of thev character described,
l a plurality of receptacles suitably connectedltogether and having a vacuum therebetween,
a casing for said receptacles, and means at the upper' end of said casing forming a closure for the upper end thereof, and provided With a protector projecting Within the neck of the inner receptacle and aidin in holdin said receptacles in proper position Within the casing.
v closure for the upper end thereof and rest# ing upon the upper end of the portion con'-' necting said receptacles, and rovided with a protector proj ectng within tllieneek of the- 25 inner receptacle and aiding in holdlng isaid receptacles in proper position within the casing. v
