Description

A. L. ALMGREN. CRIB ATTACHMENT.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 15. 1909.
Patented Feb. 15, 1910.
ANNA LISA ALMGREN. OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CRIB ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1910.
Application filed November 15, 1909. Serial No. 528,190.
To all whom 'it may concern:
lie it known that I, ANNA ll. ALMuneN, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at (hicag0, countyof Cook, and State of lllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements. in Crib Attachments, of which the followin 'is a specification.
My invention re ates to infant cribs, and the object .of the invention is the provision of attachment pads for the side or lateral walls thereof.
A further object is the provision of pads of the character mentioned and of 'a removable sanitary covering for each thereof, the latter being of such design as to be adapted, in addition to serving merely in the capacity of a covering, to also serve as a draft shield for protection of the infant occupant of the crib.
Another object :is the provision of the device of the character mentioned which will be simple and economical of construction and of neat and pleasing appearance.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view my invention consists in a crib attachment of the character mentioned and in certain details of construction and arrangement of arts all as will behereinafter fully descri ed and particularly pointed out in the a pended claims.
My invention will be est understood by reference. to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an infant crib illustrating the arrangement of my improved attachment therein, Fig. 2 is a horizontal section thereof, Fig. 3 is' a transverse section through one of the sides of the crib and taken on substantially the line x-m of Fig. 1, and Figs. 4 and 5 are detail perspectives showing the front and 'back sides respectively of one of the pads.
Referring now to the drawings, 1 indicates an ordinary infant crib, 2 the stationary sides and 3 the hinged or movable sides thereof, which are usually and as illustrated of comparatively great height. Arranged upon the inner surface of each of the sides 2 and 3, is a rectangular pad 4 substantially coextensive therewith. Com
prised in each of said pads is an inner ri 'd body member 5- formed preferably 0 a heavy card board or the like. Arranged upon the front side of said member is a suitable padding or wadding 6. Inclosing the former and said padding is a casing 7 preferably formed of a durable fabric or its equivalent. Said body 4, padding (5, and easing 7 are suitably secured or bound together but preferably by transversely extending stitchings 8 extending at intervals through the same. However, though this is the preferred form of construction of the pads employed, I do not limit myself thereto, but consider myself at liberty to use pads of any other desired construction. Provided upon the back side of each pad 4 is a plurality of attaching cords 9 secured thereto substantially midway their extremities, that is in such a manner that the respective ends. thereof will be free, and whereby the same may be brought to embrace or simpl to be tied around the bars 10 of'the crib sides, in effecting the securing of the pads 4 thereto.
Arranged about each of the pads 4 isa covering 11 formed of any suitable washable material, preferably a, durable fabric such as linen, canvas-or the like. Each covering 1.1 is simply a rectangular envelop open at its lower end, of such form and dimensions as to adapt the same to snugly receive and entirely incase or envelop one of the pads 4. The outer or back side of each covering is provided With a plurality of openings 12 so positioned therein as to permit of the passage of the cords 9 therethrough, as shown in Fig. 1. The lower end 13 of the inner portion of each covering, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3, is extended so that, when the device is arranged upon a crib, the same will depend below the mattress and spring of the latter to hide the same from view. The coverings 11, arranged upon the stationary sides of the crib are preferably formed integrally with each other, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, that arranged upon the movable side being for obvious reasons formed separate.
By'the provision in or attachment to a crib of the pads and coverings therefor of a construction as shown and described, the infant occupying the former will be thoroughly protectedagamst injury by contact with the hard sides thereof, further because of the integral construction of the coverings 11, a practically solid wall will be formed around the infant preventing any draftcomv ing in contact therewith. By reason of the detachable character of the pads and the removable arrangement of the washable covers upon the latter, the sanitary condition of the attachment may be readily kept at a high standard.
Because of the varied dimensions and proportions of infant cribs in use at the present time, the pads and hence the coverings therefor must needs be made of difierent dimensions to accommodate the same. Hence I do not limit myself to any particular design or dimensions, but consider myself free to change the design or dimensions to suit requirements.
While I have shown What I deem to be the preferable form of my attachment I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and the arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the in-- vention comprehended within the scope of the appended claims. And although 1 have designed my device with special reference o childrens cribs the same may be used for any other similar structure to which it. is applicable.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a crib or similar structure, of a plurality of pads arranged upon the inner surfaces of the sides thereof, each of said pads being substantially c0-- extensive with the side upon which -it is arranged, means upon said pads for detachably securing the latter to said sides, and a removable' enveloping coverin edge and provided with a ependiri extension, for eac of said pads, thereizfieing suitable openings in said covering to ermit the passage of said pad securing means, substantially as described. i
2. The combination with a crib or a similar structure, of a plurality of rectangular pads arranged upon the inner surface of the sides thereof, each of said pads being substantially coextensive with the side upon which it is arranged, a plurality of attaching cords provided u on the back side of each pad, said cords eing adapted to-engage the bars of the crib to hold said pads thereto, enveloping coverings for said pads, each being open at its lower edge, the coverings arranged upon the stationary sides of the crib being formed integral with each other, the back portion of each covering being provided with coverings for the passage of said attaching cords therethrough, and a depending extension provided at the lower edge of each covering, substantially'as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANNA LISA. ALMGREN.
Witnesses:
