ELECTRIC CABLE Specification of Letters atent.
Patented Hay 10,1910.
To all when 'it ma?) concern:
Be it known that l, Roni-:ino lf. lian., citizen of-the United Statesresidiing at last Orange, in the county of Essex and State ot New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Electric Cables, of which the following' is a full, clear, con- My invention relates to electric cables of the class in which the conductors are niade up in pairs formed into a core in layers, the two-wires of a pair coiistitutiim,- the two `sides eta metallic circuit.
The object of my invention is the-production of a cable in which a balance in lapaeiJ-y is preserved and inwhieh the relations tween the 'arious conductors are such that for all practical purposes there will be no inductive action between the various circuits,y thus eliminating vindruetive disturbA ances,'sueh, tor example, as eros talk, when the cable is usedt'or telephone purposes.
Briely,`my invention consists in transposing the twisted pairs forming the metallic circuits atintervals so as to cli nge their relative positions, sucli transposititlis inadedaring 4the nmanufactuife et' the cable at desired intervals in the continuous cable length and not merely zt the junction point of said lengths.
My invention therefore comprises a cable, as an article of manufacture, having; pairs tra-fisposed with reference tof each other at certain intervals in the cable length.
It isnotnecessary to make such transnosi tions except, for exam-ple, at intervals and titty feet. The pairs are so transposed that, no
pairs are adjacent except for this short. distance. l'l'eiiee if one pair should come under the inductive intluence of anotliei, this influence would be destroyed by the elif-inge in their relative positions. The tivo'ivires forming each pairv may lie 'twisted in a series of lays'lisving a variable twist, and prefer to torni the core of pairs twisted suchinanner. A eable made up of such pairsis less subgect to inductive nisturl'ian'ces than I the ordinary cables, there being'- less l hood ot the wires of one pair coming into 'parallel relation withv the wires oit ano-ther pair. When, as an additional precaution,
the continuons: mii-s are also transposer ai l certain intervals the possibility of inductive disturbance is practically removed.
l will describe in v invention more particu-- larly b v reference to the aecon'ipanying drawings, in wliich- Figure l a perspective view of a cable section with a portion oi tlielinclosing sheath removed and the wires separated to show more clearly .the transposition thereof in lsaid section. Fig. Q is a diagrammatic View showing` the transposition oi" the pairs et' wires with reference to each other. Fig. El is a diagrammatic view showing a pair ot wires twisted with a variable lay, in accordance with my invention,
The core of the cable A is composed of a with a variable twist, so as'to forni a series ot lays between'llie noties c.
