G. P. MARSHALL.
PAPER. HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED OUT. 27, 1909.

UNITE il PAPER-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 27, 1909.
Patented June '7, 1910.
Serial No. 524,978.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES P. MARSHALL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Centralia, in the county of Marion and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a paper holder and more particularly to an arrangement thereof which enables it to be extended or in flat or knock-down position for shipping purposes and which provides a cheap and efficient bracket.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a holder embodying features of the invention in a partially open position; and Fig. 2 is a view of the hinge end of a roll arm, showing the locking arm beyond.
Referring to the drawings, a substantially rectangular base plate 1, preferably of sheet metal, is hinged at each end to a pair of arms 2 which may be turned forward at right angles to the face of the base. A suitable hinge 3 is formed on the outer end of one of the arms and a roll arm 4 is attached thereto. Preferably the roll arm is a sheet metal strip having a tongue 5 extending from one end as a member of the hinge 3 and at the other end, a downturned arm 6 with notched end adapted to engage a suitable spring lock 7 on the end of the opposite bracket arm. The body of the strip t is bent into a cylinder with its edges in abutting relation. End washers indicated at 8 may be added if desired.
As a preferable detail of construction the hinges at the end of the base plate are formed of a pair of inrolled lugs 9 between which a bracket lug 10 is secured on a hinge pin 11. By this construction a cheap paper roll holder is obtained which may be extended or turned into a flat position for shipping.
Obviously, changes in details of construction, may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention and I do not care to limit myself to any particular form or arrangement of parts.
What I claim as my invention is:
l. A paper holder comprising a substantially rectangular base, a pair of bracket arms each hinged to the ends of the base to fold flat therewith and to extend forward at right angles thereto, a roll arm consisting of a sheet metal strip folded to form a cylinder and provided at one end with an ear forming a hinge member pivoted to mating hinge members on the extremity of one of the arms and provided at the other end with an inturned arm adapted to interlock with the outer extremity of the opposite bracket arm.
2. A paper holder consisting of a base plate having end lugs inrolled as hinge members, a pair of oppositely disposed bracket arms each provided at its inner end with an inrolled lug forming a mating hinge member to the inrolled base lug, a spring lock on the extremity of one arm, a pair of inrolled lugs forming hinge members on the outer extremity of the other arm, and a roll arm consisting of a sheet met-a1 strip bent between its margins into a cylinder and provided at one end with a longitudinally inrolled ear forming a hinge member mating with the bracket arms hinge members and at the other with an inturned arm adapted to engage the spring look.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES P. MARSH ALL.
