MATCH-BOX.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN IV. FINK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Match-Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to match boxes and receptacles, and the object of my invention is to provide a match box with a cigar cutter, cork-screw, cap puller, and finger nail cleaner, these devices being arranged in a compact manner so as not to increase the bulk of the match box or materially add to the weight of the same.

I attain the above object by a box' that is simple in construction, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.

My invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing forming a part of this specification, wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a match box constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same showing the lid of the box in an open position. Fig. 3 is a top plan of the box showing the cap puller and finger nail cleaner in an open position. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan of the box, and Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view of the lid of the match box.

To put my invention into practice, I provide a metallic receptacle for matches that can be suitably ornamented or used for advertisement purposes. This receptacle comprises side walls 1, a top wall 2, a bottom wall 3, and an end wall 4, the top and bottom walls 2 and 3 being of a less length than the side walls with the end wall at connecting the ends of the top and bottom walls 2 and 3, thereby allowing the side walls 1 to extend beyond the bottom wall 4 and provide extensions 5. The end wall 4 is provided with an intermediate extension 6 and these extensions form two pockets 7. Pivotally mounted in the upper ends of the pockets 7 by a transverse pin 8 are blades 9 and 10 adapted to fit within said pockets. The blade 9 has the outer end thereof curved and pointed, as at 11, said blade constituting a finger nail cleaner or small knife, while the outer end of the blade 9 is provided upon each side with a pivoted hook 12, these Specification of Letters Patent.

Hinged to the forward end of the top wall 2, as at 13, is a lid, comprising side walls 1 1, end walls 15 and 16, a top wall 17, and a bottom wall 18. The top wall 17 has one end thereof provided with a longitudinal slot' 19, and the bottom wall 18 is approxi mately one-half the length of the top wall 17 and confronts the solid portion of the top wall 17. The walls 17 and 18 have the confronting faces thereof provided with longitudinal grooves 20 and slidably mounted in said grooves is a head 21 having a thin web 22 to which is pivotally connected by a pin 23 the bifurcated end 24 of an ordinary cork-screw 25.

The edge of the wall 16 of the lid is provided with a conventional form of clasp 26 adapted to hold the lid in a closed position, and the inner side of the wall 16 is provided with a depending knife blade 27 adapted to enter the match receptacle against the inner side of the bottom wall 3, and this bottom wall is provided with an opening 28, whereby the end of a cigar can be inserted in the opening to be severed by the blade 27 when the lid of the box is closed. In order that the cigar cutter can be used, the match box is not completely filled.

The cork-screw 25 is adapted to be normally housed by the lid of the match box, and by opening the lid and pulling outwardly upon the cork-screw to move the head 21 toward the wall 16, the cork-screw 25 can be swung through the slot 19 to extend at right angles to the lid, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.

The blades 9 and 10 are pivotally mounted similar to the blades of a knife and have a stilf connection whereby they will remain in a closed position or in an open position as may be desired.

hile in the drawings there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that the structural elements thereof can be varied or changed. as to the size, proportion and manner of assemblage without departing from the spirit of the invention.

hat I claim is:

1. In combination, a receptacle having a hinged lid, said lid comprising side walls,

end walls, a top and a bottom wall, said bottom wall of less length than said top wall and said top wall provided with a longitudinally-extending slot in that portion which projects beyond the bot-tom wall, the opposing faces of said top and bottom walls provided with longitudinally-extending grooves, each of a length less than the length of the bottom wall, a head slidably mounted in said grooves, a web projecting from the head, and a cork-screw pivotally connected to said web and adapted when shifted to operative position to extend through the slot in the top wall.

2. A receptacle provided with a hinged lid comprising side walls end walls, a top and a bottom wall, said top wall provided with a longitudinal] y-extending slot, said top wall and bottom wall having the opposing faces thereof provided with longitudinally-extending grooves of less length than the length of their respective walls, a head slidably mounted in said grooves and a cork screw pivoted to said head and adapted when moved to operative position to extend through said slot, one end wall of each of said grooves limiting the movement in one direction of said head.
