IMPROVED HINGE.

To all whom z'tmzay concern Be it known that I, D. R. GOULD, of Ghestertown, `in the county of Warremand' in the State of New York,'have invented certain new and nseful Improvements inV Hinges; anddo hereby declare than the follollowing is aull, clear, and exact description thereof,v

and tol the letters 'ofreference marked-thereon, inaking a part of `this specification. n Thev nature 'ot 1ny invention consists in the construc- `tion of a=l1inge,-whichcan be n'sed for either .rightor left-handqdoor by simply changing a small washer.

In `order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains,'to make and use the same, I will now prooeed't-o. describe its construction and operation, referring tothe annexed drawings, in which- `Figure l-is aninside view ofthe hinge, and.

'The bolt G is .passed through the'barrel B, the slots in said barrel allowing the pieces l1 b to pass through. To prevent the partA' from passingentirely'through when placed at right angles with the part A, a. recess is formed inthe upper edge of the lower part a of the barrel B, in which recessa ring, D, or washer is` placed, upon which the lower piece b will rest while' passing theslot. y
