HERMAN E. HILDEBBAND, or CHICAGO, ILLINois, assitance To EDWARD E. Bienfaits',

COMBINED BURETTE-HOLDER AND PINCILCGCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. it, i911.
Application filed August 22, 193.0.. Serial No. 578,404.
To all whom @t may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN E. HILDE- nnAND, a citizen of the United States, and a` residentof Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Cornbined Barette-Holder and Pinch-Cock, which are described in the following specification, taken in connection with the accfnnpanying drawings, and are then pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.
The object of my invention is to provide a pinchcock for a burette that will also serve as a holder for the barette, the'whole equipnient being capable of being held in the hand when in use. so being' dieerent from the ordinary stationary burette stand. In man;7 cases of volumetric analysis such portable barette holder and pinchcock will prove v a great convenience.
Another function of my device is as a dropper, for which purpose 1t can be used far greater accuracy than can the ordi* In the drawings. in which similar letters ot' reference refer to similar parts throughout the views, Figure 1 is a perspective view ot' my device. showing' one side and the rear, and Fig. 2 is a side view.
A narrow strip a. of metal able material. bears at its upper end. at right angles to it. a shelf-like'projection h, con: taining` an opening` c, through which passes the bui-ette f1. The 'strip a also bears a, hook-like projection e. extendingr in the opposite direction from the projection adapted .to be held between the fingers of the operator when the device is in use; it Will most conveniently be held between the first second' finger or' the inside oi" the straightened-out band. At the lower end of the strip 1 is formed another shelf-litre projection f. also atright angles to a and err-4 tending in the same direction, and containing the opening f7, through which passes the rubber tube 71. which isronnected with the burette at i. The strip a also bears, two other v'projections t. one on either side, extendingr from it at right angles, on the same f but in a the planes of 7) and These projections Z: bear the lairis Z of a or other suit plane' atv right angles to two-armed. lever m, held constantly pressed against the, rubber one end of which n 1s I strip of. In the lower end of the rubber tubev z/ is inserted the glass tip 7).' Then it is desired to use a larger barette, the piece g may be inserted through au opening 'r formed in the projection c into the' guide s formed to `receive it on the bach oi the strip a. This piece y is held in place by theshoulders t and t which bear .against the projection e. The piece r] has a shelf-like projection u formed at its upper Vend, similar to and extending' in the saine direction, but larger opening c. so that a larger burette may pass through itand be supported in an upright position.
On the top of the burette (Z may be at'- tached a rubber' bulb y for use in filling the burette with liquid, or the liquid' may be poured Ain 'from the top of the barette.
lt will be obvious that the strip (L and the projections 7J, e, f and and the guide e may all be formed troni one piece of metal stamped and bent into the shape -required. l It will also be obvious that the piece y and j the projection u may be formed. in the saine I manner from one piece, thus rendering? the making ot n'iy device very easy and iiic.\; pensive.
Instead of the hook-like projection e as the hand-piece, aring or loop 'attached to the back of the strip a may be used without l departing from the spirit oi niy invention. l Having now described my invention, what I claini as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States. is: l 1. it portable burette holder l I a strip bearing a guide for the burette, a l guide for the rubber tube attached to the barette, a hand piece, and a spring-actuated.
l l and containing an opening' v larger than, the
two-armed lever, one end or which is'adapted to normally press against the rubber tube attached toI the barette and the other end ot which forms a thumb-piece. by pressureon which the pressure againstv said rubber tube 4Inaybe controlled.substantiallyas described. f2. ,In combination with a burette, a rubber 'tube attached -thereto and a holder therefor.I a pinchcock consisting or' a spring-actuated,
consisting; ot'
los
two-armed lever extending parallel with the axis of the burette, one end ot' said lever being adapted to normally press against said rubber tube and the other end of which forms a thumb-piece by pressure on which the pressure against said rubber tube may be controlled, substantially as described.
3. In cmbination with a burette and a rubber tube attached thereto, a strip bearing a guide for the burette, a guide for the rubber tube, a hand-piece and a pinchcoek consisting of a spring-actuated, two-armed lever extending parallel with the axis of the burette, one end'oi said lever being adapted to normally press against said rubber tube and the other end of which t'orins a tluunbpiece by pressure on which the pressure against said rubber tube lmay be controlled, substantially as described.
4. In aliquid dropper, the combination of a glass tube, a rubber tube attached thereto, va glass tip attached to said rubber tube, and astrip bearing a guide for said glass tube, a guide for said rubber tube, a handpiece and a pinchcoclr consisting of av springactuated. two-armed lever extending parallel with the axis ole the barette. one. end ol said lever being;- adapted to normally press againstsad rubber tube and the other end' of which forms a thumb-piece by pressure on which the pressure against said rubber tube may be controlled, substantially as described.
5. A portable burette holder consisting or' a strip bearing' a plurality of guides for the burette, a hand-piece and a pinchcock, substantially as described.
6. A portable burette holder consisting oi' a strip to the burette, a hand-piece, and a spring'- actuated, tivo-'armed lever, one end oiwhich is adapted to normally press against the.
bearing a plurality of guides for the burette, a vguide for the rubber tube attached I rubber tube attached to the burette and the other end of which forms a thumb-piece by pressure on which the pressure against said rubber tube mayv be-controlled, substantially as described.
7. In a portable burette holder, the coni-4 bination or' a stripbearing a guide for the bui-ette, a guide for the rubber tube attached to the barette, a liand-pieee','a pinchcock, and a guide for an extension of said strip, and an extension of said strip, fitting in said guide therefor, and forming another-guide for .said burette, substantially as described.
8. 4In combination 'with a burette and a' rubber tube attached thereto, a strip bearing a plurality ot' guides for said burette, a guide for said rubber tube, a handlpiece and a pinehcock consisting of a springactuated, two-armed lever extending parallel with the axis of the burette, one end of said lever being adapted to normally press against said rubber tube, and the other end of which forms a thumb-piece by pressure on which the pressure against said rubber tube is controlled. substantially as described..
t). In a liquid dropper, theeoinl'iination of a `glass tube` a rubber tube attached thereto, a glass tip attached to said rubber tube`- a strip `glass tube, a guide -lor said rubber tube, a hand-piece anda pinchcoek consisting of a spring-actuated, two-armed lever extendingl parallel with the axis of the glass tube, one end of said lever being, adapted to normally press against said rubber tube, and the other end of which forms a thunib-piece by pres-- sure on which the. pressure against said rubber tube is controlled, substantially as described.
