EFFIE G. KUEBLIER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CHAFING-SHIELDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 20, 1911.
Application filed September 23, 1910. Serial No. 583,381.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EFFIE O. KUEBLER, a
citizen of the United States, residing at 4:29 East Fiftieth street, Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement inGhafing- Shields, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvement in the construction of shields for preventing chafing between the thighs; and'my object is to provide an article of this kind which may be worn by a person without danger of displacement and consequent discomfort, which will form a desirable and convenient means for the application of antiseptic or healing agents, and in other ways be a particularly desirable article for its purpose.
In the drawingFigure 1 is a perspective view of my improved chafing-protector as it appears when applied to the body; Fig. 2, an enlarged side view of one of the shields; and Fig. 3, a section on line 3 in Fig.2.?
The numerals 4 designate shields, each in the form of an oblong sack, open at the top, and shaped preferably as shown. The wall 5 of each shield or sack is intended to contact with the inner surface of the thigh and is preferably of soft porous fabric, while the other, or outer, side 6 may be of more closely woven fabric, or even impervious material,
and is lined with a strip 7 of gauze, or the like. The shields are suspended from a belt or waistband 8 by means of front straps 9 and rear straps 10, which are permanently secured thereto. The connection between the straps and shields is by means of clas s 11, preferably of the well known stu -andsocket type, the members of which may be adapted to engage the wearers stocking.
All the straps are elastic and have means, such as the slides or buckles 14: shown,
' whereby they may be adjusted as to length,
to conform to the requirements of the are composed permits them to be washed as often as desired without injury. The belt and elastic straps may be worn for a long time without becoming soiled. The present construction permits the sacks or shields to be easily attached to or detached from the elastic straps, so that they may bev washed without the necessity of subjecting the straps to injury by washing.
In practice, two or more sets of shields may be provided for one set of the elastic at tachments and belt.
The straps 9, 10 operate to hold the shields at the .proper elevation and the straps 12 cause them to conform cl osely to the surfaces of the thighs, while the straps 13 tend to cause the stockings of the wearer to hold the shields against wrinkling.
While I prefer to'construct my improved chafing-shield or protector as shown and described, it may be modified in thematter'of
