it 1 be provided with an u:-:-- edge. We. are aware that previous to our 1nventio it had been pro sed to construct m es to calender em s and cut sheetrubberstock. Suc machines, however, would be of very limited utility, since they would be capable of handling but one thickness of stoc owing to the fact that both the embossing and cutting functions would devolve upon a single roll.
.The object of our invention is to rovide a machine of the character descri ca able of calendaring, embossing and cutting eetrubber stock of'difl'erent thicknesses without necessita the substitution of rolls for each desi th'ckness of stock. 45 -With this object in view, our invention consists in a calendaring, embossing and cutt' I machine characterized by having an roll and a calendering roll which are relatively adjustable, and a separate and distinct cutting roll co-agiizgg with the em-' bossing roll and synchro therewith. In cfl l'lyifi out 'our invention, we employ a air 0 ender-rolls and 6, arranged si e by side and mounted in a suitable frame 7, the bearin 8 for the ends of the roll 5 being adjusta le by means of ca stan screws 9 mounted in tes 10 pivota connected at one end wit the frame of t e machine and ada ted to be secured at the opposite end to the me of the machine by screws 11. Directly below the calender-roll 6 is a third calender-roll 12, the bearings 13 of which are adapted to be, raised and lowered b screws 14 provided at their lower ends wit worm ggars 15 meshing with worms 15'. adapted to turned through a bevel-gear 16 meshing with a bevelimon 17 on the lower end of an operating-r0 18.. which pro'ects u wardly and rearwardly, and is rovi ed wit an operating hand-wheel 19. t will be understood that both ends of the roll 12 are provided with adjusting means (Fi 1 and 3). At
the side of the calender-r01 12 is an' emboss- -roll 20, formed in its surface with channo 21 corresponding in form to the design of the embossing to appear on the surface of the finished article. This roll is also mounted in the frame find provided at opposite ends with bearing-blocks 22 adapted to be adjusted by capstan screws 23 mounted in gates 24 hinged at their upper ends in the frame and connected at their lower ends with the frame by bolts 25. The stock then follows the roll 12 and the embossingroll 20, where the stock is forced into the grooves 21 therein, and, at the same time, may be further reduced in thickness by compression between these two rolls. The stock then passes between the embossin -roll 20 and cutting-roll 26, which is provi ed with cutting-edges 45 corresponding to the design to be cut out, and the design is so arranged that they are connected with the next form, so that the forms are delivered from the machine in a continuous strip. The surplus material is carried upward by the embossing-roll and onto the conveyor 38, by which W1 may be adjusted with relation to the emit 18 carried up and delivered between the rolls 5 and 6 for further manipulationand through the machine.

In rubber cutting and embossing calenderin calen e tion, other calender-rolls cooperatin therewith and arranged in relatively ifl'erent planes with respect thereto, said last mentioned calender-rolls being mounted for relative individual adjustment with' respect to the fixed calender roll and the direction of such adjustment being at different angles, an adjustable embossing-roll arranged adjacent to and in the same plane as one of the adjustable calender-rolls and having a direction of adjustment parallel to the remaining calender-roll, and an adjustable cutting-roll adjacent said embossing-roll machines, the combination with a r-roll having a fixed axis of rotav and having a direction of adjustment parallel with that of the calender-roll mounted adjacent to the embossing-roll whereby various gauges of stock maybe cut and embossed by relatively'adjusting the cuttingroll andem rol1. 4. In a machine of the class described, the combination with a calendering-roll, of an embossing-roll co-acting-therewith, means for adjusting one of the said rolls with reect tothe other roll, a separate and distinct cutting-roll co-acting with the said embossing roll and synchronized therewith and means for driving each of the said rolls:

the combination with a plurality of calendering-rolls arrangedin series, of an embossing-roll co-acting with one of the: said calendering-rolls, means for adjusting the space between the said embossing roll and its soacting calendering roll, a separate and distinct cutting-roll co-acting with the said embossing-roll and synchronized therewith, and' means for driving each of the said rolls.
