Abstract

An urinal that comprises a pair of pants (1), which in the crutch part is provided with partly a bushing (9) for liquid proof closing round penis, and partly a funnel member (2) which encloses the bushing (9), and which at its outer end is provided with a reservoir as well as a drain tube leading to an accumulation bag (8). The bushing (9) can be adjusted to the size of penis and keep this in the funnel member (2). Thus a complete liquid proof urinal is secured, which can be used without being too tight and without inconveniencing the patient in any other way, because of its complete elasticity.

Description

U R I N A L

The invention relates to a urinal for male persons, which urinal comprises a tubular funnel member of foil material that is impermeable to liquid and in one end of which an aperture is to divert the urine by means of a tube, and the other end of which is provided with an elastic bushing to enclose penis tightly.

Such urinals are especially used by incontinent male persons who have more or less difficulty in controlling the urination. The patient is provided with a funnel member, the drain tube of which can be led to a receptacle, which may be placed e.g. at the sickbed, or for walking cases at a suitable place on the patient's leg.

A funnel member of this kind is known from the specification to Danish Patent No. 120.166, which comprises a tubular cuff, which can be fastened to penis by means of adhesive tape. This construction has, however, turned out to work unsatisfactorily, mainly because the tape cannot keep penis in the funnel member, when the patient moves so that the cuff slides completely or partly off. The urine can now run beside the cuff and out, causing great inconvenience to the patient physically as well as psychically.

Another type is known from the specification to US Patent No. 2.445.694, which consists of a funnel member which is fastened to the patient by means of a rubber belt and two straps. This construction is, however, encumbered with the disadvantage

it cannot enclose the body in a liquid proof way, as the front piece cannot be brought to abut on the body imperviously to liquid, when the patient moves. Besides there is a great risk of penis sliding out of the bushing of the funnel member, which squeezes round the root of penis, because it is difficult, especially for elderly patients, to squeeze the bushing round penis caused by the loose tissue. It is, besides, difficult for the patient to fasten the urinal according to these known constructions. To elderly handicapped people this causes that they must have assistance to put on and take off the urinal.

An object of the invention is to eliminate these disadvantages of the known urinals, and this is reached, when the funnel member is provided with a front piece that is impermeable to liquid, and mounted on the crutch part of a pair of pants in a way that penis can be led through the bushing into the funnel member. In practice this has turned out to be a simple way, which is superior to all known constructions, to prevent urine from leaking out along penis, because the elasticity of the pants keeps the urinal safely in its place even if the patient moves violently. Furthermore it is usually possible even for handicapped patients to put on pants and thus also to put on a urinal according to the invention. This is of great help to the patient as well as to the assistance.

When the funnel member and the front, as mentioned in claim 2, are moulded in one piece, a completely liquid proof construction is achieved, which can be fastened to a pair of pants in an easy way, and at the same time gives the funnel member a suitable ridigity between the front and the funnel member.

When the funnel member is provided with the bushing according to claim 3 the possibility of adjusting the urinal individually to the patient's penis is achieved. This can take place by cutting off the end of the bushing so that the diameter of the opening increases. Besides it has proved appropriate that the proofing between the bushing and penis takes place here, which is more easily achieved here than at the root of penis. This bushing will also help to keep penis in the funnel member. Even if penis perhaps might be pulled completely out of the funnel member, the bushing will follow and keep the tight connection with the funnel member.

When the funnel member according to claim 4 is provided with ribs a reservoir for urine is created in the funnel member to receive the urine before it has run completely out, just as the risk that the funnel member is squeezed flat and the urine is pressed out through the bushing is reduced.

When the front is provided with ventilating devices, as mentioned in claim 5, irritation of the skin is prevented, as the skin is kept dry in the crutch part.

Finally it is appropriate according to claim 6 when the parts are sewed up by means of elastic seams so that the parts when used will be able to work together with a suitable elasticity everywhere. In this way inconvenient tensions and irritation of the skin as well as any raw places are prevented.

The invention will now be further explained referring to the drawing, where

Fig. 2 is partly a sectional view of the urinal, seen from the side, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the embodiment with ribs on the funnel member.

In Fig. 1 an example of an embodiment for the invention is shown. The urinal comprises a pair of pants 1 which preferably is made of a washable, suitably elastic cotton material which has been made into tight-fitting underpants.

An opening 11 is in the pants, cmp. the sectional view through the front of the pants in Fig. 2. The opening is is placed on a level with penis. Above this opening and covering the crutch part of the pants a front 3 with a funnel member 2 as well as an inside bushing are sewed on.

At the end of the funnel member 2 a hose connection 7 is formed upon which a hose can be placed, which hose leads to an accumulation bag for urine 8, cmp. Fig. 1. This can be placed on the thigh of the patient in a suitable way. The connection 7 is so suitably rigid that the hose can easily slide into its place round the connection. The connection and the hose may be provided with a co-operating union

The funnel member 2 and the front 3 are moulded in one piece, preferably of natural rubber with a suitable elasticity and in a shape that clearly appears from the drawing.

In the funnel member 2 a bushing 9 is placed, cmp. Fig. 2. The bushing is made of moulded natural rubber, too, and in a way that it has one contact face against the pants and one against a bended pipe section, the diameter of which decreases towards the end 10. This makes it possible to cut off the end in order to adjust the bushing to the size of penis, so that a tight-fitting keeping of penis in the bushing can be achieved.

The front 3 and the bushing 9 are fastened to the outside of the pants, as shown in the drawing by means of elastic thread, the edge of the front being fastened to the pants by a seam 5, and the front and the bushing being fastened to the pants by an inner seam 6. This fitting results partly in a suitable elasticity everywhere, and partly in a protection of the skin with exception of penis.

In the front 3 are a suitable number of small openings 4 so that the skin can be ventilated. Secretions of sweat can in this way evaporate. In Fig. 3 another embodiment for the funnel member is shown, where it is provided with a spiral rib 12, which preferably is casted in the rubber. This supports and forms a recervoir for the urine. The funnel member may also be formed in a way to make channels either along or across between the inside of the funnel member and penis. Thus, a free passage for the urine to the connecter is secured, even if the funnel member may be squeezed.

The patient puts on the urinal when he puts on the underpants in the usual way. Then penis is led into the bushing, perhaps after adjusting the bushing to the size of penis, and finally kept fastened in the funnel member. This quite closed system secures that the urine is completely enclosed in the urinal without any risk for outlet.

In this way the urinal can be used during bathing of the patient, in a swimming pool, or under circumstances where there is no possibility for urinating, as e.g. in case of pilots and drivers on duty.

C L A I M S

1. Urinal for male persons, which urinal comprises a tubular funnel member of foil material that is impermeable to liquid, and in one end of which an aperture is to divert the urine by means of a tube, and the other end of which is provided with an elastic bushing to enclose penis tightly, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the funnel member (2) is provided with a front piece (3) that is impermeable to liquid, and mounted on the crutch part of a pair of pants (1) in a way that penis can be led through the bushing (9) into the funnel member (2).

2. Urinal according to claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e i n that the funnel member (2) and the front piece (3) are moulded in one piece.

3. Urinal according to claim 1 and 2, c h a r a c t e r iz e d i n that the cross section of the bushing (9) is in all essential circular, the diameter of which cross section is decreasing from the aperture towards the end (10) for the formation of a funnel shaped channel for penis.

4. Urinal according to claim 1 and 2, c h a r a c t e r iz e d i n that at least on the part that is nearest to the tube opening the funnel member (2) is provided with supporting ribs (12) for the distention of the funnel member (2).

5. Urinal according to claim 1, 2, and 4, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the front piece (3) is provided with ventilating apertures (4).

6. Urinal according to claim 1-5 , c h a r a c t e r iz e d i n that the front piece (3) and the bushing (9) are mounted on the pants (1) by means of one or more elastic seams (5, 6).
