Abstract

The bracket is intended to allow a person in bed for medical reasons, to execute, without any extra help, the following motions: to sit up again on her bed, to sit on the edge of the bed, to stand up, to make a few steps and sit on a seat. It comprises one arm (14) intended to be used as a turning support for the person in bed, mounted by means of a set of tubes (10, 11, 12) engaged telescopically into each other, on a base (24) laid on the ground next to the bed. The arm (14) may be moved by the person in bed, against a certain resistance, between an angular position for which it is above the bed, and an angular position for which it is away from the bed.

Description

P O T E N C E P O U R L I T P O T E N C E P O U R L I T
La figure 3 est une vue en coupe par la ligne HI-IH de la figureIt is often advisable for disabled or bedridden people for medical reasons, to sit on the edge of their bed, to stand next to it, possibly to take a few steps to a seat, for example a wheelchair, and to settle in. If the bedridden person can generally straighten up alone in his bed by bending over the stirrup of a traditional gallows, on the other hand, he needs help to be able to execute the other movements. In these conditions, the bedridden person must often give up getting out of bed because no help is present or available. The purpose of the bracket according to the invention is to give, in this context, a certain independence to bedridden persons. This bracket is characterized by the fact that it is constituted by two elements rotating one inside the other around a vertical axis, a device supporting these elements, a horizontal arm secured to one of the two elements, and in -yens developing between them a friction couple, the whole so that the support being placed on one of the two longitudinal sides of the bed, the arm can be moved angularly against a certain resistance between a position for which it is located above the bed and a position for which it is located away from the latter. The attached drawing shows, schematically and by way of examples, two embodiments of the subject of the invention. FIG. 1 is a front elevation view of the first embodiment connected to a hospital bed. Figure 2 is an elevational view, also from the front, partially cut, and on a larger scale. Figure 3 is a sectional view through the line HI-IH of Figure
2.2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view through line IV-IV of Figure 2. Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 of the second embodiment.
Figure 6 is a plan view corresponding to Figure 5. Figures 7 and 8 are views similar to Figure 2 of a detail showing the kinematic-ue of the bracket. Figure 9 is a sectional view through line IX-IX of Figure 6. Figure 10 is a sectional view through line XX of Figure 6. Figure 11 is a sectional view through line XI-XI of Figure 9. The bracket shown in Figures 1 to 4 comprises three metal tubes 10, 11, 12 of increasing diameters, telescopically engaged and two flanges 13 for fixing the outer tube 12 on one of the longitudinal sides of the frame of the »bed .
The upper end of the inner tube 10 is bent and folded so as to form a horizontal double-arm 14. The intermediate tube 11 is secured to the fixed tube 12 by a finger 15 trapped in a vartical groove 16. It can be moved axially relative to the tube 12 between two limits defined by the ends of this groove. Its height can be adjusted and fixed by means of a spring finger 17 engaging in holes 18. The tube 10 is adjusted to rub in the tube 11 so as to oppose any action tending to rotate it a certain res couple so much. A device, consisting of a screw 19 mounted on a section 20 of the tube 11 and engaged in a semi-circular groove 21 of a socket 22 integral with the tube 10, prevents the latter from moving axially and fixes the limits between which it can swing. The corresponding angular-limit positions of the arm 14 are drawn in solid line and in broken line in FIG. 1. This arm 14 is intended to serve as a rotating support for the person in bed during the various movements which he must execute to get up, get out of bed, and possibly sit on a seat, and in reverse to get back into bed.
Obviously, in each particular case, the height of the arm 14 will be adjusted by engaging the finger 17 in one of the holes 18. The second embodiment shown in Figures 5 to 10 differs from the first by the following points: - The device limiting the angular movements of the arm 14 comprises a helical groove 23 so that the horizontal movement of the arm 14 is combined with a vertical movement. Under these conditions, the limit positions of this arm 14 are no longer at the same level. - The tube 12 is supported on the ground by means of a base 24 which includes balls.25 and a non-slip surface 26. A mechanism, known per se, controlled by a pedal 27 with lateral displacement makes it possible to retract the balls 25 or the surface 26 depending on whether one wishes to fix the bracket very stably next to the bed or move it.
The tube 12 is connected to the frame of the bed by a flange 28 which eliminates the risk of an untimely relative displacement of the bracket and the bed during the various movements performed by the person who is supported on the arm 14. The blocking of flange 28 is provided by screws 29. This flange 28 can slide freely along the tube 12 so as not to impede the vertical movements of the frame in the case of a motorized hospital bed.
As a variant, the means for developing a friction torque between the tubes 10 and 11 could be constituted by a brake.
