Description

The present invention relates to a mixed apparatus for projection and rear projection of slides contained in a rotary circular basket.
Slide projection devices with a rotating circular basket include a housing in which a light source and a lens are housed. The slides to be projected are contained in a circular basket rotatably mounted on the upper horizontal face of the case. Each slide to be projected is driven out of the basket by an appropriate device and it is brought into a position located between the light source and the objective to be then brought back into the basket, after projection, by a reverse movement.
Among the projection apparatuses with rotary circular basket we already know some which also make it possible to provide a rear projection on a screen constituted by a frosted glass and which incorporated in the apparatus. Such an apparatus is described for example in US Pat. No. 4,163,610. This apparatus comprises, on its anterior vertical face, a frosted glass plate on which the slides can be projected. Inside the housing of the device is mounted a movable assembly horizontally and transversely, this movable assembly comprising a window allowing the exit of the light beam, to allow direct projection of the slides, and a mirror. The movable mirror is intended to be interposed in front of the objective, in the rear projection position, and in this position this movable mirror reflects the light beam leaving the objective in the direction of a second mirror and then of a third mirror which finally projects the image on the back of the frosted glass constituting the screen of the front side.
If such an apparatus effectively makes it possible to obtain either a direct projection on a remote screen or a rear projection on a screen incorporated in the apparatus, it nevertheless has the major drawback of having a very large footprint. in height since, in addition to the vertical projection that constitutes the rotating basket mounted on its upper horizontal face, the box must have a sufficient height to be able to contain the vertical rear projection screen in the front face of the device.
The present invention aims to remedy this drawback by providing a device of this compact type and a small overall height, which however allows retrσpro throw images of sufficient size to allow their observation by a group of some people. To this end, this mixed apparatus for projection and rear projection of slides contained in a rotary circular basket mounted on its upper horizontal face, comprising a light source, a lens and means for bringing each slide, from the rotary circular basket, into a position located between the light source and the objective and to bring the slide back into the basket, a rear projection screen, a movable mirror, and means for moving the mirror between a rear projection position in which it. is interposed, in front of the objective, on the path of the light beam coming from the objective, to reflect this beam in the direction of the rear projection screen, and a position of direct projection in which the mirror is away of the light beam to let it pass in the direction of a screen placed at a distance is characterized in that it comprises second and third mirrors which are retracted away from the light beam, together with the first mirror, in the projection position direct and which are arranged in the rear projection position so that the second mirror receives the light beam reflected upwards and backwards by the first mirror and that it deflects it towards the third mirror which reflects upwards and backwards the light beam towards the rear-projection screen mounted inclined from bottom to top and from back to front on the upper face of the device.
Various embodiments of the present invention will be described below, by way of nonlimiting examples, with reference to the appended drawing in which: Figure 1 is a schematic vertical and longitudinal sectional view of a mixed device for projection and rear projection of slides contained in a rotating basket, according to the invention, in rear projection position.

This assembly 2 includes in particular a lens 4 which is located opposite a window 5 formed in the front face 1a of the housing 1 for the exit of the light beam in the case of direct projection, as indicated in phantom in the figure
1.1.
To allow a rear projection of the slides, the apparatus comprises a set 6 of three mirrors, 7,8 and 9 forming a single block. These three mirrors 7, 8, 9, forming the one-piece assembly 6 can be moved alternately between two positions, namely a direct projection position and a rear projection position. In the direct projection position, which is that shown in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4, the assembly 6 of the three mirrors 7, 8, 9 is retracted, inside the housing 1, away from the outgoing light beam. of the objective 4. When it is desired to carry out a rear projection, the assembly 6 of the mirrors 7, 8, 9 is then placed in a vertical position in which it reflects upwards and backwards the light beam coming from the objective 4, as shown in FIG. 1. The rear projection is carried out on a frosted glass 11 carried by a plate 12 which is articulated on the. upper and rear part of the housing 1 around a horizontal and transverse axis 13. When the plate 12 is not used for rear projection, it extends horizontally to the upper part of the housing 1 as can be seen in the figures 2, 3 and 4. In the rear projection position (Figure 1), the plate 12, after having pivoted about the axis 13, is in an inclined position from bottom to top and from back to front. The light beam starting from the objective 4 is then deflected backwards and upwards, by the first mirror 7 which is inclined from bottom to top and from rear to front and which is interposed on the path of this beam luminous, between the objective 4 and the window 5. The beam is thus reflected in the direction of the second mirror 8 which is vertical and transverse then, from this mirror 8, towards the front and upwards in the direction of the third mirror 9, which is slightly inclined from bottom to top and from front to back. The third mirror 9 in turn reflects the beam towards the frosted screen 11. Thanks to the above arrangement, it can be seen that the light beam is reflected upwards and backwards by passing over the rotating basket 3, which therefore cannot intercept this beam. The movement of the mobile assembly 6 of the three mirrors 7,8,9 between the two positions of direct projection and of rear projection and vice versa can be controlled by any suitable mechanism allowing, by a translational movement, to interpose the first mirror 7 on the path of the light beam leaving the objective 4, or to put it away from this beam, and, by a pivoting movement around a horizontal and longitudinal axis, to bring the second and third mirrors 8.9 to be aligned vertically so as to return the light beam towards the frosted screen 11.
In the variant shown in FIG. 5, the plate 12 carrying the frosted screen 11 is articulated around a horizontal and transverse axis 14 adjacent to the plane of the upper face of the housing 1 but situated at the front of this housing. , that is to say substantially above the objective 4. This mounting results in a slightly different arrangement of the three mirrors 7,8,9 which must be, in this case, much more shifted forward and upwards, at least with regard to the second and third mirrors 8 and 9.
In the alternative embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, the rear projection is provided by means of three mirrors 15,16,17 two of which, namely the first mirror 15 and the third mirror 17 are carried by the front wall 18 of the housing, which pivots at its lower part, about a horizontal and transverse axis 19, while the second mirror 16 is mounted fixed inside the camera, above the objective 4.
Comme précédemment le faisceau lumineux tombant sur l'écran en verre dépoli 11 paisse au-dessus du panier rotatif 3, sans être intercepté par celui-ci.In the rear projection position (FIG. 6), the front wall 18 of the device is tilted forward, in an inclined position in which the first mirror 15 which it carries is found to be interposed on the path of the light beam leaving Objective 4. This first mirror 15 then reflects the beam towards the second mirror 16, fixedly mounted in the camera, above the objective 4, which in turn reflects the beam towards the third mirror 17. This third mirror 17 is then placed in a substantially vertical position or preferably slightly inclined from bottom to top and front to back. To this end, the mirror 17 is articulated around a horizontal and transverse axis 21 carried by the upper part of the internal face of the pivoting wall 18. From the third mirror 17 the beam is reflected upwards and backwards. , towards the screen 11 which is carried by the pivoting plate 12, at the rear of the device, around the horizontal and transverse axis 13. As before, the light beam falling on the frosted glass screen 11 grazes above the rotating basket 3, without being intercepted by it.
In the direct projection position (Figure 7) the front wall 18 is in a vertical position and constitutes the front face of the device. In this position the light beam coming from the objective 4 freely crosses the plate 18 while passing through an appropriate window formed in its lower part, opposite the objective 4. The first and third mirrors 15, 17 are also retracted , either by a lateral offset, or above the light beam, as shown in FIG. 7.
In the variant embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 8 and 9, the device comprises a single mirror 22 which is carried by a horizontal plate 23 mounted to slide under the housing of the headlight 2 and which can be pulled out long in tudinai front of the unit. The mirror 22 is articulated on this plate 23 about a horizontal and transverse axis 24. In this way the mirror 22 can be brought to a sufficiently large distance from the objective 4 to be able to reflect, in rear projection position, the light beam towards the frosted glass screen 11 carried by the hinged plate 12, about an axis 14, on the front and upper part of the projector 2. Bars 25 can be articulated, at their lower ends, on the plate 23, around horizontal and transverse axes 26 and they can bear against the projector housing 2, at their upper ends, to keep the plate 23 in position rear projection, as shown in Figures 8 and 9.
