Abstract

Orthopedic prosthesis joint with hydropneumatic cylinder and electromagnetic flexion locking. The invention relates to an orthopedic prosthesis joint allowing to lock the flexion. It is comprised of a first hydraulic cylinder (1) which regulates in an antagonist way the flexion and the extension of the joint through two adjustable non return valves (7 and 8) situated on the external circulation of the fluid (9). A second pneumatic cylinder (2) associated with the first cylinder has the function of damping the end of stroke and of propulsor, by means of compressed air. An electrovalve (10 and 22) controlled by front and rear contacts at the top of the prosthesis allows to lock the joint in the flexion phase (compression of the cylinder). Said assembly is installed in a joint prosthesis made of composite material (carbon).

Description

The invention relates to an articulation of an orthopedic prosthesis constituted by the assembly of a hydropneumatic cylinder and of its electromagnetic control.
Nowadays, the control and operating systems of a prosthetic joint are completely separate. In general, pre-adjusted springs, associated with a drum brake for controlling the mechanical articulation; are used to bring the bottom of the prosthesis from flexion to extension. The braking is then proportional to the pressure exerted by the patient. In addition, the movements of the load lines on this type of joint cause the braking to decrease as soon as a flexion appears, causing in the worst case the patient to fall. Sometimes a hydraulic regulation system is added to the previous mechanism. The object of the invention is to propose unified operating and control systems.
Cet ensemble vérin-électrovanne a trois avantages principaux : - une plus grande fiabilité d'utilisation de l'articulation prothetique,This union is obtained thanks to an electrically controlled valve interrupting the circulation of fluid between the two chambers of a hydraulic cylinder. This cylinder-solenoid valve assembly has three main advantages: - greater reliability in the use of the prosthetic joint,
L'extrémité supérieure de la tige (5) est fixée indirectement au membre à équiper, par l'intermédiaire d'un basculeur (17) articulé sur la prothèse.- the possibility, with a few minor adaptations, to transform an ordinary mechanical articulation into a hydraulic articulation with brake, - a blocking of the articulation at any angle. The invention consists (fig 1) of two cylinders (1 and 2). The first cylinder (1) contains a hydraulic fluid, it contains a piston (6) which allows the separation of the cylinder into two chambers (3 and 4). This piston (6) is fixed on a through rod (5) equal to the length of the cylinder plus the total displacement stroke of the piston. The upper end of the rod (5) is indirectly attached to the member to be fitted, by means of a rocker (17) articulated on the prosthesis.
The two chambers (3 and 4) communicate with each other by an external conduit (9) provided with two non-return valves (7 and 8) with adjustable throttle, thus constituting two regulators. These check valves are antagonistic. However, a version with internal circulation of fluid is possible.
The second cylinder (2) is located in the extension of the first cylinder (1), a sealed partition (19) separates them. The lower end of the through rod (5) is fixed to the piston (13) contained in the cylinder (2). The length of the latter must be at least equal to the length of the piston stroke (6). This second cylinder (2) is provided with two valves (14 and 21) by which more or less compressed air is introduced according to the desired settings. It also acts as a fixing on the bottom of the prosthesis.
Alternatively, a manual pump connected to the valve (14) can adjust the damping of the walking movement by adjusting the pressure.
On the part of the external duct (9) located between the two non-return valves (7 and 8) is a valve (22) electromagnetic (10) bistable in our preferred mode.
In the compression phase of the jack, which corresponds to the bending of the joint, the valve (22) can be closed and thus interrupt the circulation of fluid between the two chambers (3 and 4). The piston (6) is then immobilized, which has the effect of blocking the joint in this position. But the valve (22) also acts as a non-return valve, and therefore allows the extension of the joint (expansion phase of the jack).
. .The electrical supply to the solenoid valve (10) is provided by a battery. Two micro-contacts are installed at the front and at the back of the top of the prosthesis, and are activated by the weight supported, they ensure the electrical control of the electromagnet, via conductors: electrical wire , optical fiber, . . .
It should be noted that the through rod (5) of the piston (6) is sealed relative to the two ends of the cylinder (1) by a seal (20). The cylinder (2) is blind.
The whole of this device is implanted in a prosthesis made of composite materials (carbon).
