Description

Descriptive Report of a Patent for Utility ModeT named "SINGLE OUTLET VASCULAR CATHETERISM DEVICE"
Vascular cathctcrism means the placing of a catheter (tube) within a blood vessel.
This device is related to an improved mechanism for the cathctcrism of a blood vessel """ which uses a single outlet both for the guiding puncture needle, as well as for the medicine and scrum administering tube which makes it different from the already existing devices.
This is an improvement which brings several advantages, as it will be shown below.
In the drawings which are attached hereto, Figure 1 constitutes:
- A longitudinal section view of the device, with the respective identification numbers (1 to 12);
- A longitudinal section drawing of the device, showing its disconnected elements, and the respective identification numerals (1 to 10);
- A drawing with the cross sections of the device, showing its disconnected elements and the respective identification numerals (1 to 11); — - A drawing with a top view of the device and its disconnected elements and the respective identification numerals (1 to 10).
As it may be seen in the drawings of Figure 1:
Numeral 1 identifies the protection cover of the guiding vascular puncture needle as well as of the flexible catheter; — — Numeral 2 identifies the hollow, stainless steel, guiding vascular puncture needle, with beveled tip. It is wrapped by the hollow, flexible catheter, except for its beveled tip. The back portion of the needle is fixed and seated on the needle base (10). After puncturing the blood vessel, the guiding vascular needle is removed by pulling it backwards by its base, leaving the flexible catheter within the vessel, allowing the administration of *"— medicines and sera.
Numeral 3 identifies the hollow, flexible, vascular catheter, made from a hollow tube of a very thin and resistant wall. This catheter wraps the guiding puncturing needle, except for its beveled tip. The catheter is fixed to the body of the device (5). The back portion of the catheter is in communication with the "curved sleeve" (7); — Numeral 4 identifies the two plates, made of flexible material and connected to the body of the device (5). They are wing shaped and, at the moment of the puncture, the so-called "wings" remain closed and arc held between the forefinger and the thumb, providing a better stability in the handling of the device. Later the wings are opened in order to be attached to the patient's skin by using adhesive tape, providing better adherence, avoiding _■-____.. the moving of the device;
Numeral 5 identifies the body of the device. It is a hollow piece through which passes the vascular catheter, which is attached and fixed to its body. It is provided with two wing- shaped plates (4);
Numeral 6 identifies the back portion of the body, where an elastic "curved sleeve" is — firmly connected; Numeral 7 identifies the clastic "curved sleeve", made of an extremely elastic material, such as siliconc rubber. It is shaped like a hollow tube, with its lower back portion being thick and reinforced, through which passes the guiding puncturing needle. At the back portion of the so-called thick wall there is a housing where the tip of the puncture needle —» base is attached (9). This housing has the function of holding the puncture needle preventing it to rotate and to move freely backwards when puncturing the blood vessel. The front portion of it is firmly fixed to the back portion of the nozzle of the body of the device (6). At the back portion of the "curved sleeve" there is a hollow and flexible tube (12) glued to it through which medicines and sera arc administered; — Numeral 8 identifies the hollow inner portion of the "curved sleeve" where the medicine and sera administrating tube is fixed;
Numeral 9 is the tip of the needle base. It has its own shape in order to fit into the housing located in the back side of the thick wall of the "curved sleeve", and docs not permit the rotation of the needle and does not allow the easy backward movement of the — » needle, helped by the two lateral grips, shaped as a lever;
Numeral 10 identifies the support base of the guiding vascular puncture needle. It is made of hard, transparent material, is hollow and communicates with the hole of the puncture needle. When the needle punctures the blood vessel, the blood flows into the base showing, through its transparent walls that the blood vessel was "caught". As shown in — Figure 1, it may have different shapes, with its supporting base having its back side turned upwards, which makes it more anatomical for the handling;
Numeral 11 identifies the back side slot of the needle base, where there is a porous film. This porous film allows the passage of the air, but docs not allow the passage of the blood;
Numeral 12 identifies the medicine and sera administrating flexible tube, which is firmly — " glued to the back nozzle of the "curved sleeve". It has, in its end, a housing to attach the scrum equipment or injection syringe (Figure 7).
The detached drawing (Figure 2), is an enlargement of the sole outlet of this device, where the improvement of vascular cathctcrism mechanism is located.
In practice, the cathetcrism of a blood vessel, when using this device, is done as follows: — First: Remove the protecting cover;
Second: Puncture the blood vessel with the beveled tip of the needle, holding the device by its closed wings, between your forefinger and the thumb, as shown in Figures 3 and 8;
Third: Upon puncturing the vessel, the blood will flow into the hollow needle and then — into the hollow chamber of the needle supporting base, where it may be seen. The porous film does not let the blood escape of the support base;
Fourth: Remove the puncture needle by its back side leaving the hollow catheter within the blood vessel (Figures 5 and 6). The thick wall of the lower back side of the "curved sleeve" is extremely elastic, and it seals the hole left by the removal of the needle;
Fifth: The full process has as purpose to form a hollow bridge communicating the blood vessel, the flexible catheter, the body of the device, the curved sleeve, the administrating tube and the administrating tube housing (Figure 7), thereby allowing cither the collection of blood or the injection of medicines and sera. Finally, the device is attached to the patient skin by adhesive tape, through the open wings.
The device may remain within the blood vessel for several days, without harming the vessel, due to its flexible catheter with blunt tip, which allows the movement of the — — patient, for the whole device is flexible and non traumatic improving the patient comfort, for it will not be necessary to puncture the patient's vein once and again.
There is no loss of the patient blood during the whole process, therefore avoiding an eventual contamination.
This device offers several advantages related to the existing ones: "***-* A. The single back outlet, using the clastic "curved sleeve", which has multiple functions:
1. to hold and fix the guiding puncture needle, through the elasticity of the thick wall and through the back housing, helped by the lateral lever grips;
2. scaling of the hole left by the puncture needle, when removed, therefore -— "" eliminating blood leaking;
3. the "curved sleeve" is a connection pipe through which the liquids (blood, medicine and scniin) pass;
4 the "curved sleeves" is flexible, docs not hurl the patient, and may be inclined to any position, following the patient's anatomy; — * 5. the hollow portion of the "curved sleeve" docs not have any dead points where material may accumulate, therefore avoiding infections.
B. The single back outlet allow the reduction in size of the vascular catheterism device, in its length as well as in its width, therefore making its handling easier when puncturing the blood vessel, reducing also, the discomfort of the patient. — - The figures 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 show the whole process of vascular catheterism above.
