The apparatus is characterized in that the blanket cylinder (3), the surface of which is free from any wetting liquid, is tangential to at least two printing forms (4, 5) which are in turn tangential to respective inking cylinders (6, 7), so that different inked areas of the same colour but from different screens, or of different colours, are depositied on the peripheral surface of the common blanket cylinder (3), to be transferred by the latter onto the web of material (1).

Description

APPAREIL D'IMPRESSION ROTATIF, NOTAMMENT DU TYPE FLEXOGRAPHIQUE ROTARY PRINTING APPARATUS, ESPECIALLY OF THE FLEXOGRAPHIC TYPE
The present invention relates to a rotary printing device without wetting, in particular of the flexographic type, for printing on a sheet of material in several colors or wefts.
Printing devices of the flexographic type generally include a plate cylinder, also called a "printer shape", the raised peripheral surface of which receives ink from an ink cylinder and which transfers this ink onto a sheet of material, such as as paper or cardboard, scrolling between the printer form and a tangent counterpart cylinder between them. As the printing form has a raised surface, it may happen, if the sheet of material to be printed does not have a perfectly flat surface, that printing gaps appear on the sheet after it has passed through the printing apparatus. To overcome this drawback, it has already been envisaged to interpose between the printing form and the sheet of material, a blanket cylinder, with elastic peripheral layer, this blanket cylinder receiving the ink of the printing form and transferring it onto the sheet of material. To date, there are devices comprising a single blanket cylinder, disposed on one side of the sheet of material, in the case of recto printing, and other devices comprising two blanket cylinders tangent respectively to the two opposite faces of the tablecloth, in the case of a double-sided printing. The present invention relates to improvements to this type of printing apparatus with the aim of simplifying its construction and reducing its cost price. To this end, this rotary printing device without wetting, in particular of the flexographic type, for carrying out a printing on a sheet of material in several colors or wefts, this sheet moving between a blanket cylinder, with elastic peripheral layer, and a counterpart cylinder (or another blanket cylinder) tangent to each other and driven in rotation, characterized in that the or each blanket cylinder, with a surface devoid of any wetting liquid, is tangent to at least two printing forms, themselves same tangents to respective ink cylinders, so as to deposit on the peripheral surface of the or each common blanket cylinder different inked zones either of the same color but of different wefts or of different colors, with a view to their transfer, by the cylinder blanket, on the sheet of material.
On décrira ci-après, à titre d'exemple non limitatif, une forme d'exécution de la présente invention, en référence au dessin annexé sur lequel :An embodiment of the present invention will be described below, by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the appended drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a schematic elevational view, partially in vertical and longitudinal section, of a flexographic printing apparatus according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical and longitudinal sectional view, on a larger scale, illustrating a contact area between a printing form and the common blanket cylinder of the device. The rotary printing apparatus of the flexographic type according to the present invention which is shown diagrammatically in FIG. 1, is intended to perform on a printing on one side (front) of a sheet of material 1, such as a sheet of paper or cardboard, scrolling through the device from left to right on the drawing. This device comprises several horizontal cylinders, parallel and tangent to each other. The sheet of material 1 passes between a lower counterpart cylinder 2, driven in rotation in a clockwise direction, and an upper blanket cylinder 3 driven in rotation in a counterclockwise direction, these two cylinders being tangent to each other. The blanket cylinder 3 comprises, in the usual way, a peripheral layer 3a of elastic material and it is in contact with the upper face of the sheet 1 to carry out the front printing on this face.
According to the invention, the blanket cylinder 3 is in contact, at its upper part, with two plate cylinders or printing forms 4 and 5. These two printing forms 4 and 5 are in turn respectively in contact with tangent ink cylinders 6 and 7. The printing forms 4 and 5 thus receive layers of ink transferred from the respective ink cylinders 6 and 7, these inks may be the same or else of different colors. These colors are then transferred successively to the peripheral surface of the blanket 3, devoid of any wetting liquid, by the printing forms 4 and 5.
La figure 2 montre également une autre zone encrée b précédemment transférée par un autre relief 5b de la forme imprimante 5.FIG. 2 schematically illustrates the transfer, on the peripheral surface of the blanket cylinder 3 devoid of any wetting liquid, of the ink deposited by the printing form 5 situated on the left in FIG. 1. On this peripheral surface appear printing dots a which correspond to inked areas transferred by the first printing form 4 and having a first color or weft. The second printer form 5 is shown transferring, from a relief 5a, an inked area b, of a second color or weft, onto the peripheral surface of the blanket cylinder 3. FIG. 2 also shows another area inked b previously transferred by another relief 5b of the printer form 5.
From the above, we see that the blanket cylinder carries, on its periphery, inked areas a and b distributed according to the patterns to be printed on the sheet of material 1. These inked areas are then transferred to the sheet 1 in the contact area between the blanket cylinder 3 and the counter cylinder 2.
Par ailleurs, en fonction de l'espace disponible, l'appareil d'impression pourrait comporter plus de deux formes imprimantes en contact avec le cylindre blanchet commun 3.Although the above description relates to a printing apparatus of the flexographic type, it goes without saying that the invention can also be applied to any other printing apparatus using a hard surface printer form. Furthermore, depending on the space available, the printing device could include more than two printing forms in contact with the common blanket cylinder 3.
The invention could thus be applied to a duplex printing device. In this case the counterpart cylinder 2 would be replaced by a second set of lower cylinders similar to the upper cylinders 3-7, this assembly comprising a second blanket cylinder in contact with the underside of the sheet 1, just below the upper blanket cylinder 3, printing forms similar to the upper printing forms 4.5 and tangent to the lower blanket cylinder and ink cylinders similar to the upper ink cylinders 6,7 and tangent respectively to the lower printing forms.
According to another variant, each printer shape 4.5 could consist of a cylinder with a smooth surface receiving the inked image by a contactless system, for example of the inkjet, electrostatic type, etc., or else having zones with different wettability properties vis-à-vis the ink, to constitute the image to be reproduced, these zones being, for example, zones with different roughness, silicone zones, etc.
