Abstract

Asymmetrical cationic bleach activators are provided. The compounds have the formula: (Q-E-C(O)-L-C(O)-R1)(Ya-)1/a, wherein L is selected from the group consisting of: (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e), wherein Q has the formula R3R4R5N+ wherein any of R?3, R4 and R5¿ is independently selected from the group consisting of substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkaryl and aryl; E is a substituted or unsubstituted polyalkylene, arylalkylene, alkylenearyl, arylpolyalkylene, polyalkylenearylaklylene or polyalkylenearylpolyalkylene; a is 1 or higher; (Ya-)1/a is a charge-balancing compatible anion; R2, when present, is independently selected from the group consisting of C¿1?-C8 linear or branched chain saturated or unsaturated alkyl, alkaryl, aralkyl and aryl; R?1¿ is a C¿1?-C20 linear or branched chain saturated or unsaturated alkyl group; Z, when present, is selected from the group consisting of C2-C16 linear or branched, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkaryl, aralkyl, aryl; and i, when present, is 0 or 1. Bleach additive and bleaching compositions including the asymmetrical cationic bleach activators and methods of cleaning fabrics are also provided.
