Description
BAND APPARATUS FOR CAPS
Technical Field
The present invention relates, in general, to band apparatus for caps and, more particularly, to band apparatus provided with both a strip member and a headband detachably attached to the strip member, thus being worn around the head separately or along with a cap.
Background Art
Various types of caps are known to those skilled in the art. Fig. 1A shows the construction and configuration of a typical sun cap 5. As shown in the drawing, the sun cap 5 is free from any crown (the part which fits over the head), but has a visor 7 protruding at the vertical front strip part 9 of a headband 11. When the sun cap 7 is worn around the head of a user with the front strip part 9 being positioned around the forehead of the user, the visor 7 is worn above the eyes to give protection from strong light from the sun. In the drawing, the headband 11 is comprised of a curved elastic strip with both ends of the curved strip being spaced out at an interval. However, the headband 11 may be comprised of an endless band.
In the above sun cap 5, the visor 7 is integrated with the front strip part 9 of the headband 11 and so it is impossible to separately and selectively change the visor 7 or the headband 11 with another having a different configuration and color. Thus, such a sun cap 5, with the visor 7 fixed to the headband 11, somewhat effectively gives protection from strong light from the sun, but the
color and configuration of the cap 5 is fixed and so a user is less like to use such a cap 5 as an accessory for decorative purpose or showing one's marked individuality. Fig. IB is a perspective view showing a typical hairband, which is a curved plastic strip worn in the hair. Such a hairband 45 fits closely over the top of the head and behind the ears. However, the above hairband 45 has a high tension and is tight against the head, thus causing a user to have a headache. In addition, sports headbands are widely used for keeping the hair or perspiration out of the eyes. Such a sport headband is comprised of a narrow, endless strip, which is made of towel cloth with elastic strings. However, such a headband does not have any visor, thus failing to give protection from strong light from the sun.
Disclosure of the Invention
Accordingly, the present invention has been made keeping in mind the above problems occurring in the prior art, and an object of the present invention is to provide band apparatus for caps, which is provided with both a strip member and a headband detachably attached to the strip member, thus being worn around the head separately or along with a cap, and allows a visor to be detachably and selectively attached to the strip member, thus allowing a user to selectively change the visor or the headband with another one having a different configuration and color and allowing the user to use the band apparatus as an accessory for decorative purpose or showing one's marked individuality.
An object of the present invention is to provide band apparatus for caps, which is worn around the head with a
cap so as to keep the cap in place and prevent the cap from unexpectedly coming off in the wind.
In order to accomplish the above objects, the present invention provides band apparatus for caps, comprising: a strip member to be normally positioned around the forehead of a user when the band apparatus is worn around the head separately or with a cap; and a headband detachably attached to the strip.
A visor may be detachably attached to the front of the strip member.
In order to detachably attach the headband to the strip member, a plurality of holes may be formed on the strip member, thus allowing the headband to pass through. Alternatively, a longitudinal band passage is formed on the strip member from one end to the other end, thus allowing the headband to pass through.

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a sun cap with band apparatus in accordance with the primary embodiment of the present invention. In the sun cap 30, a stiff visor 32, which is formed into a predetermined shape using a plastic material or is formed by covering a stiff material with cloth, is detachably attached to the front of a strip member 36 of the band apparatus of this invention. The strip member 36 of the band apparatus is to be normally positioned around the forehead of a user when the sun cap 30 is worn around the head. Of course, it should be understood that the visor 32 may be fixed to the front of the strip member 36.
The band apparatus of this invention also includes means for detachably attaching a headband 34 to the strip
member 36. In the primary embodiment, the band attaching means is comprised of a plurality of holes 38, which are regularly or irregularly formed on the strip member 36, thus allowing the headband 34 to pass through when the headband 34 is detachably attached to the strip member 36. The strip member 36 may be made of the same material of the visor 32. It is preferable to form the strip member 36 using cloth. In addition, it is preferable to use a narrow elastic strip as the headband 34. Alternatively, a typical elastic hairband may be preferably used as the headband 34 as shown in Fig. 4. In the primary embodiment, both ends 40 of the headband 34 may be fastened together by a sewing process or using hooks and eyes or velcro strips, thus forming a loop. When both ends 40 of the headband 34 are fastened together using such hooks and eyes or velcro strips, the headband 34 is easily attached to or removed from the strip member 36.
Fig. 3A is a perspective view of a sun cap 50 with band apparatus in accordance with the second embodiment of this invention. In the second embodiment, the general shape of the sun cap 50 remains the same as in the primary embodiment, but the band attaching means of the band apparatus is altered as follows. That is, the band attaching means in the second embodiment is comprised of a longitudinal band passage 57, which is formed on the plastic or cloth strip member 56 from one end to the other end, thus allowing a headband 54 to pass through. In Fig. 3A, the reference numeral 52 denotes a detachable visor and the numeral 60 denotes fastened ends of the headband 54.
Fig. 3B shows an example of visor attaching means for detachably attaching the visor 52 to the strip member 56. As shown in the drawing, the visor attaching means is
comprised of a mounting panel 51, which is integrated with the inside edge of the visor 52 and is provided with a plurality of hooks 52a. In addition, a plurality of eyes 53 are provided on the front surface of the strip member 56 at positions corresponding to the hooks 52a of the visor 52. Of course, the hooks 52a may be provided on the strip member 56 with the eyes 53 being provided on the visor 52. In addition, it should be understood that another fastener, such as a velcro strip or a zipper, in place of such hooks and eyes may be used as the visor attaching means.
As shown in Fig. 4, a typical hairband 80 may be preferably used as the headband of the sun cap 70. In such a case, a longitudinal band passage 77 is formed on the plastic or cloth strip member 76 from one end to the other end, thus allowing the hairband 80 to pass through. Therefore, it is possible to selectively use various typical hairbands having different colors and configurations. In the drawing, the reference numeral 72 denotes a detachable visor.
Fig. 5 is an exploded perspective view of a sports cap with the band apparatus of this invention. In a typical sports cap 90, a strip liner 93, made of cloth or rubber, is fixed around the inside of the crown to keep perspiration out of the eyes. The strip member 56 of the band apparatus is detachably attached to the front part of the liner 93 around the visor 92 using a fastener, such as hooks and eyes, velcro strips, a zipper or safety pins. Of course, a headband 54 is detachably attached to the strip member 56 prior to attaching the strip member 56 to the liner 93. When such a sports cap 90 is worn on the head of a user, the headband 54 goes around the lower part of the head in the same manner as in a typical chin strap
as shown in Fig. 6, thus keeping the cap 90 in place and preventing the cap from unexpectedly coming off in the wind. Therefore, the band apparatus of this invention is most preferably used with a cap worn on the head of a golfer or a fisherman. Of course, the band apparatus of this invention may be preferably used with various hats such as straw hats for the purpose of keeping the hats in place.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of band apparatus in accordance with the third embodiment of the present invention. In the band apparatus, an elastic string 104 passes through a plurality of holes 108 of the strip member 106, thus being used as a headband. The band apparatus, with such an elastic string 104, may be worn around the head of a user separately to keep hair or perspiration out of the eyes in the same manner as in a typical hairband or headband.
Industrial Applicability
As described above, the present invention provides band apparatus, which is provided with both a strip member and a headband detachably attached to the strip member. The band apparatus of this invention is thus worn around the head separately or along with a cap. In the band apparatus, a visor may be detachably and selectively attached to the strip member, thus allowing a user to selectively change the visor or the headband with another one having a different configuration and color and allowing the user to use the band apparatus as an accessory for decorative purpose or showing one's marked individuality.
In addition, the band apparatus may be worn around
the head with a cap, thus keeping the cap in place and preventing the cap from unexpectedly coming off in the wind. Another advantage of the band apparatus resides in that it is possible to freely move the strip member, with a detachable visor, relative to the headband worn around the head, thus allowing the visor to effectively give protection from strong light from the sun regardless of the direction of sunbeams.
Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention have been disclosed for illustrative purposes, those skilled in the art will appreciate that various modifications, additions and substitutions are possible, without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention as disclosed in the accompanying claims.
