- the cutting element is moved axially in a proximal direction along the slot 66, as illustrated by the arrow 68 and the phantom images of the cutting element 20a, in order to isolate a generally cylindrical tissue segment, as the cannula 18a is rotated about its axis 19a simultaneously.
