Abstract

Process for the preparation of a polymer dispersion by converting a polymer containing α-β-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid monomer units and vinyl monomer units in an aqueous medium at a temperature of at least 100 °C, the preparation being carried out in the presence of a caustic solution. Dispersions obtainable with the process may be acid or basic in character.
