Abstract

The invention relates to a method for applying at least one coating (82) to a part of a surface (2) of a component (1). A method of this type can be used e.g. to apply coatings to the light emergent surface of a lamp in order to reduce the glare effects of the lamp. The aim of the invention is to improve the application of coatings to parts of surfaces. To this end, the coating (82) is applied by vacuum-coating, using at least one mask (4) for covering the surface of the component that is not to be coated. Said mask (4) is situated at a distance from the component (1) and has at least one mask opening (5, 20) which is smaller than the surface of the coating (82) to be applied. The position of the component (1) in relation to the mask (4) is altered and the coating of the component is completed in several successive steps according to the respective alteration of the position of the component (1) in relation to the mask (4).
