Abstract

A system (20), method, and computer program for providing a customizable e-message encryption scheme and service (19). The software or service may be purchased conventionally from a store or purchased online and downloaded (50). Upgrades and technical support are available online form the service provider (19, 52). Encryption algorithms of varying levels of complexity are available (57), and large customers can establish a security hierarchy dependent on context sensitivity and risk exposure (e.g., destination, routing, firewall protection, etc.). Senders (12, 58) may use their existing e-message or e-mail provider (17, 60), and encrypt while typing (56) or when sending (54). Senders (12) may also choose among several delivery and access options (57), including decryption options such that receivers (14) need not themselves purchase the software or service in order to decode messages (62).
