- the ions contained in the micropores 28 provide the means to conduct current across the therapeutic element 14.
- RF energy is conveyed from a RF power supply and control apparatus to the electrode 32, electric current is carried by the ions within the micropores 28.
- the RF currents provided by the ions result in no net diffusion of ions, as would occur if a DC voltage were applied, although the ions do move slightly back and forth during the RF frequency application. This ionic movement (and current flow) in response to the applied RF field does not require perfusion of fluid through the micropores 28.
