Abstract

A method of reissuing secured postage indicium including dispensing from a postage meter (10) an original postage indicium evidencing postage dispensed for a requested postage transaction, including postage and authentication information; storing within the postage meter (10) a transaction record for the dispensed original postage indicium, including the postage and authentication information; and receiving at the postage meter (10) a request to reissue the original postage indicium. The inventive method further includes subsequent to receiving the reissue request obtaining the postage and authentication information from the transaction record; combining the obtained postage and authentication information with an indicator thereby creating a modified original postage indicium; and dispensing the modified original postage indicium from the postage meter so that the indicator is obtainable from the dispensed modified original postage indicium to identify that the dispensed modified original postage indicium is a reissue of theoriginal postage indicium.
