- Noise suppressors are generally in the form of lead weights which are fixed at carefully chosen locations on the vehicle chassis by means of screw-nut systems associated with elastic damping members.
- the anti-vibration mass in accordance with the present invention is produced by injection molding of a thermoplastic material containing a weight load consisting of metal particles.
- the corresponding anti-vibration mass is very simple to manufacture after homogeneous mixing of the plastic base with the metallic load. This technique makes it very easy to obtain any form of chemically stable product, the metallic charge included in the plastic base being made absolutely inert.
- thermoplastic material used is preferably chosen from polyamide, polypropylene or polycarbonate.
- the metallic weight charge may be in the form of flakes or fibers, but it is preferably used in the form of a powder whose particle sizes are between 0.5 and 300 ⁇ m (and preferably between 5 ⁇ m and 50 ⁇ m).
- high density metals such as lead, tin, copper, tungsten, barium, bismuth or derivatives of these metals (in particular oxides or alloys) are used.
- the nature of the metallic filler, and its rate of incorporation into the thermoplastic base are suitable for obtaining a molded composite material whose density is greater than 8, and preferably between 10 and 12, that is to say close to the density of lead conventionally used.
- the weight charge consists of tungsten particles, or of a tungsten derivative, present in proportions between 80 and 95% of the weight of the final material.
- the tungsten (or derivative) particles represent approximately 90% of the weight of the final material.
