Abstract

A shoe (10) for treating chronic foot wounds such as ulcerations in diabetes patients. A malleable shoe upper (42) is attached to a sole (50) and receives a custom-fitted orthosis (14) produced by imprinting the patient's plantar aspect into heat-deformable foam or a hardening silicone. A heel (48) of the shoe (10) includes an internal spring (46) to further dampen reactive forces.
