Abstract

A communication architecture is described. In one embodiment, the architecture comprises a repeater (302) MAC sublayer functionality and a switch (301) coupled to the repeater (302) and having switch (301) MAC sublayer functionality. The repeater (302) MAC sublayer functionality and the switch (301) MAC sublayer functionality cooperate to perform the MAC functionality in a distributed fashion.
