Each camera (3) is mounted onto a base which gives it the mobility needed to aim it properly in accordance with specific needs at each moment.

Description

REAR VIEW DEVICE FOR VEHICLES DESCRIPTION PURPOSE OF THE INVENTION This invention refers to a device that has been especially conceived for rear vision from inside an automobile vehicle under normal driving or traffic conditions . The purpose of the invention is to achieve perfect rear vision in total absence of blind spots, with minimum movement of the driver's head for viewing the space behind him or her and all this with an improvement to the vehicle's aerodynamic coefficient, with a reduction in rioise from turbulence and possessing a revolutionary aesthetic appearance due to the elimination of classic rear view mirrors, with the consequent elimination of other secondary effects these cause, such as dazzling from light being reflected on them. BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION It is well known that rear vision during driving is essential, as one needs to know with precision the presence, position and mobility of the vehicles travelling near to a driver behind him or her so as to be able to perform manoeuvres such as overtaking or others in safety. To achieve this, vehicles are currently fitted with rear view mirrors, generally two that are on the exterior, one on each side of the vehicle, and another that is interior, located in the front middle part. Obviously, this third mirror cannot be used in industrial and freight vehicles and viewing through this mirror is awkward in cars when there are three passengers on the back seat, as the one occupying the middle position leads to a partial and substantial suppression of visibility. As for external rear view mirrors, these display problems that are centred mainly on the following aspects: They have a negative impact on the vehicle's aerodynamic coefficient, this increasing as the volume or size become larger. They generate noise from turbulence that can be unpleasant. They produce blind spots in which there is no visibility, the cause of a large number of accidents . When travelling at night they reflect light from cars travelling behind towards the driver, which is uncomfortable for him or her. The driver has to turn his or her neck frequently and widely, having to turn his or head in order to maintain proper visual control over the mirrors .
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The rear view device for vehicles proposed by the invention satisfactorily resolves the problems expressed above in each and every one of the different aspects commented, both in cars and in industrial or transport vehicles . Specifically, this is done by the device being materialised in a closed circuit television system using at least one camera, which may be fitted to any small projecting part of the vehicle's exterior panelling so as to have the least possible impact on the vehicle's aerodynamics, a camera that is connected to the corresponding screen, located on the vehicle's dashboard or instrument panel and providing optimum visual access for the driver, with barely any need to move the head, such that the camera takes images in real time and transmits these to the corresponding screen, performing the functions of existing rear view mirrors but in a manner that is much more convenient and effective for the user. Another of the invention' s features provides for the aforementioned vehicle projections to be capable of being folded back, for example, closing automatically at the same time as the vehicle is locked, so as to protect the TV camera or cameras against the possibility of vandalism when the vehicle is parked in the street. Another of the invention's features provides for the TV screen or screens to be mounted on mobile supports that can be turned, so as to focus on certain specific areas during certain specific manoeuvres, such as, for example, kerbs during parking manoeuvres, the motor elements for which having obviously to be connected to controls that are also to be fitted to a suitable location in the vehicle's control panel. Finally, another of the invention's features is that the TV camera or cameras used will be self-adjustable in function "of the level of environmental luminosity.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS To complement the description provided herein and so as to assist better comprehension of the invention's features in accordance with a preferential example for its practical application, attached as an integral part of this description is a set of drawings representing, in an illustrative and non-limiting manner, the following: Drawing 1.- An outline description of a view from above of a car fitted with the rear view device that is the subject of this invention, showing various possibilities for its practical location. Drawing 2.- This shows an outline section view of the device in the previous drawing at the level of one of the TV cameras . Drawing 3.- Finally, this shows an outline representation of the viewing and control components fitted to the vehicle's dashboard or instrument panel.
PREFERENTIAL APPLICATION OF THE APPLICATION Drawing 1 shows one of the multiple possibilities for the practical application of the invention device, in which there are three observation or rear view points, specifically two lateral points (1-1') fitted in keeping with the classic exterior rear view mirrors for a vehicle, although it is not necessary for them to be fitted level with the driver, meaning that there is better view of the sides and the blind spots associated with existing mirrors are eliminated; a third (2) is fitted to the roof and has a function equivalent to that of a conventional interior and middle mirror, but with the peculiarity that by being located on the outside of the vehicle's bodywork, it is not obstructed by passengers or, as applicable, the load carried. Each of these rear view points (1-1' -2) has a TV camera (3) protected by a small projection (4) in the vehicle panel, a camera (3) that transmits images in real time to the corresponding viewing screen (5) like the one shown in drawing 3; there can be a single screen providing a total panoramic view of the area set at any time behind the vehicle (6), or there can be two or more screens showing the areas corresponding to the right side, the left side, the immediately rear area, etc. The aforementioned projections (4) will be made preferably of mobile components attached to the vehicle panel (6) in a hinged or similar manner, as one see especially in drawing 2, these projections (4) being in the form of small doors that can be folded in accordance with the arrow shown in the aforesaid drawing 2; this means that when the vehicle is inoperative the corresponding cameras (3) are stowed inside the vehicle's bodywork, protecting this against vandalism and, consequently, providing this with double security. Each camera (3) is to be mounted on a support (7) that provides this camera (3) with adequate mobility so as to be able to turn this appropriately in function of the specific requirements in each case; this means that the it can be pointed in certain direction when the vehicle is travelling normally and in another direction, such as upwards or downwards, during parking manoeuvres so as to facilitate visibility in these circumstances. For changes in the position of the camera or cameras (3) , the device is also to incorporate the corresponding controls (8) , installed preferably alongside the viewing screen (5) inside the vehicle. One of these controls (8) may used for closing the projections or covers (4) , although this can also be performed automatically in parallel with centralised locking of the vehicle's doors.
