Abstract

色材(1)と該色材より小さい荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子(2)とを有する分散性色材であって、上記色材と上記荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子とが固着している分散性色材と、水溶性ノニオン性樹脂(15−1)及びエマルジョン粒子(16−1)の少なくとも一方とを含んでいることを特徴とする水性インクが提供される。これにより、分散安定性が高く、長期分散安定性に優れた、耐擦過性等の堅牢性に優れた画像が得られ、特に、光沢性の高い画像が得られるインクジェット記録用として好適な水性インクの提供が可能になる。また、かかる水性インクを利用したインクタンク、インクジェット記録装置、インクジェット記録方法、インクジェット記録画像も提供される。

本発明は、 分散性色材と水溶性ノニオン性樹脂或いはェマルジョン粒子を用 いた水性インク、 インクジェット記録装置、 インクジェット記録方法、 及びィ ンクジエツト記録画像に関する。 背景技術
インクジエツト方式は、 種々の作動原理によりノズルからインクの微小液滴 を飛翔させて被記録媒体 (紙等) に到達させ、 画像や文字等を記録する方法で あるが、 高速化、 低騒音化、 多色化が容易であり、 記録パターンの融通性が高 く、 現像及び定着操作が不要である等の特徴があり、 様々な用途において急速 に普及している。 特に、 近年はフルカラーの水性インクジェット記録方式技術 がめざましい発達を遂げており、 従来の製版方式による多色印刷や、 カラー写 真方式による印画と比較しても遜色のない多色画像を形成することも可能と なっており、 作成部数が少ない場合には、 通常の多色印刷や印画よりも安価に 印刷物が得られることから、 フルカラー画像記録分野まで広く応用されつつあ る。
そして、 更なる記録の高速化、 高精細化、 フルカラー化等の記録特性向上の 要求に伴って、 水性インクジエツト記録装置及び記録方法の改良が行われてき ている。 一般的に、 インクジェット記録装置に用いられる水性インクに要求さ れる性能としては、 (1 ) 紙上で、 滲みや、 かぶりのない、 高解像度、 高濃度 で均一な画像が得られること、 (2 ) ノズル先端でのインクの乾燥による目詰 まりが発生せず、 常に吐出応答性、 吐出安定性が良好であること、 (3 ) 紙上 においてインクの定着性がよいこと、 (4 ) 画像の耐候性がよいこと、 (5 ) 長 期保存安定性がよいこと、 等が挙げられる。 特に、 近年における印字速度の高 速化に伴って、 インクの乾燥及び定着が速く、 且つ高画質な記録が得られるィ ンクが要求されている。
水性インクジエツト記録方式に用いられる色材としては、 主に染料と顔料が あり、 従来から水性インクとしての扱いやすさ、 発色性の高さによって水溶性 染料が主として用いられてきたが、 近年、 より高い画像の耐候性を実現できる 水性インクジェット記録インクの色材として、 本質的に水に不溶な色材、 特に 顔料を用いたインクの開発が精力的に進められている。 水に不溶な色材、 特に 顔料を水性インクジエツト記録インクとして用いるためには、 水中に色材を安 定に分散させることが必要となる。
この場合、 一般的に界面活性剤若しくは高分子分散剤 (以下、 分散樹脂とも 呼ぶ) を用いて分散安定化する方法が用いられてきた。 また、 水不溶性色材の 表面を化学的に修飾する手法が提案されている (例えば特開平 1 0— 1 9 5 3
6 0号公報参照)。 また、 顔料を樹脂で被覆するマイクロカプセル型顔料が提 案されている (例えば特開平 8— 1 8 3 9 2 0号公報及び特開 2 0 0 3— 3 4
7 7 0公報参照)。 特に、 前記特開 2 0 0 3 - 3 4 7 7 0公報では、 「水不溶性 着色剤を含有する水系着色微粒子分散物において、 該着色微粒子分散物が水不 溶性着色剤を分散剤の存在下で水系媒体中に分散させた後にビニルモノマー を添加して重合したものであり、 該分散剤が水不溶性着色剤を分散した場合に は分散安定性を示し、 且つ、 該分散剤のみの存在下で該ピエルモノマーを重合 した場合には生じるラテックスの安定性が乏しいことを特徴とする水系着色 微粒子分散物」 が開示されており、 「水不溶性着色剤分散物に乳化重合した場 合に、 ビニルモノマ一や生じたポリマーに対する分散剤の親和性がそれほど高 くないために、 顔料表面からの分散剤の脱着が起こりにくく、 分散剤が吸着し た顔料表面で重合が進行したため」、 「顔料表面が被覆された微粒子分散物を凝 集することなく、 高い収率で得られる」 としており、 該着色微粒子分散物を用 いることで、 分散安定性、 印字適性に優れ、 紙種依存性がなく、 金属光沢が少 なく、 耐水性、 耐光性、 耐擦過性に優れた画像を与える水性インクを得たとし ている。 発明の開示
しかしながら、 上記した技術では、 色材の分散安定性と、 記録画像の光沢性 が充分でない場合があった。 本発明者らの検討によれば、 分散安定性を高める ためには色材の表面官能基密度を高くする必要があるが、 従来の高分子分散剤 を用いた手法、 及び特開平 8— 1 8 3 9 2 0号公報に示される樹脂によって被 覆された顔料とする手法においては、 分散安定性を高くするために樹脂の酸価 を高くすると、 樹脂の親水性も高くなるために、 経時と共に樹脂が色材から外 れやすくなり、 長期保存安定性を保てなくなる場合があった。 一方、 特開平 1 0 - 1 9 5 3 6 0号公報に示される方法によって水不溶性色材の表面を化学 的に修飾する手法においては、 修飾できる官能基やその密度には限界があり、 また、 色材が特に有機顔料である場合において直接化学修飾を行うと、 本来、 水に不溶となって結晶化している顔料分子が、 親水基の結合によって水溶化さ れて顔料粒子から溶け出す、 いわゆる 「顔料剥離」 が起こって色調が著しく変 化するという問題が生じる等 (図 6 A及び 6 B参照)、 十分に満足できる技術 レベルではなかった。
本発明の目的は、 これら従来技術の課題を解決し、充分に分散安定性が高く、 且つ樹脂成分の色材からの脱離がない分散性色材からなる、 光沢性をもつた高 画質な記録が可能な水性インクを提供することにある。 更に、 本発明の別の目 的は、 斯かる水性インクを用いた、 インクタンク、 インクジェット記録装置、 インクジエツ卜記録方法、 及びインクジヱット記録画像を提供することにある。 これに関連して、 本発明者らは、 上記課題を解決する手段について鋭意検討 した結果、 新規な形状の分散性色材とすることで、 高い分散安定性を保ち、 且 つ樹脂成分が色材から脱離することなく長期的に保存安定性である新規な分 散性色材の開発を達成した。 また、 かかる分散性色材を用いることで、 インク ジェット記録用途として十分な吐出安定性や分散安定性を有し、 更に、 水溶性 ノニオン性樹脂及びェマルジヨン粒子の少なくとも一方を含有させることで 高い画像品位に優れた印字物を与える水性インクを得た。 本発明の目的は、 以 下のような具体的な手段によって達成される。
即ち、 本発明は、 色材と該色材より小さい荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子とを有する 分散性色材であって、 該色材と該荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子とが固着している分散 性色材と、 水溶性ノニオン性樹脂及びエマルジョン粒子の少なくとも一方とを 含んでいることを特徴とする水性インクである。
また、 本発明は、 上記水性インクを含んでなることを特徴とするインクタン クである。
また、 本発明は、 上記水性インクを用いて、 インクジェット記録画像を形成 することを特徴とするインクジエツト記録装置である。
また、 本発明は、 上記水性インクを用いて、 インクジェット記録装置により 画像を形成することを特徴とするインクジエツト記録方法である。
また、 本発明は、 上記水性インクを用いて、 インクジェット記録装置により形 成されることを特徴とするインクジエツト記録画像である。
本発明によれば、 光沢性記録媒体に記録した記録画像の光沢性に優れ、 且つ 分散安定性にも優れる水性インクが提供される。 また、 本発明の別の効果とし て、 光沢性に優れた画像を与える水性インクを使用したインクタンク、 インク ジェット記録装置、 インクジェット記録方法、 及びインクジェット記録画像が 提供される。 図面の簡単な説明

以下に、 本発明の最良と思われる実施の形態を挙げて、 本発明を具体的に説 明する。 本明細書及び請求の範囲で用いる 「分散性色材」 の用語の意味すると ころは、 本質的に、 界面活性剤や高分子分散剤の添加を必要とすることなく、 水又は水性インク媒体中に分散可能である色材、 即ち、 自己分散性を有する色 ネオである。
先ず、 本発明に係るインクに使用される分散性色材は、 色材と、 該色材より も小さい荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子とを有する分散性色材であって、 上記色材と上 記荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子とが固着していることを特徴とする。特に、該色材は、 上記荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が複数点在して上記色材に固着されているもので あることが好ましい。
本発明において使用する分散性色材の第一の特徴は、 色材と、 荷電性樹脂擬 似微粒子とからなる分散性色材であって、 上記色材が、 上記荷電性樹脂擬似微 粒子を固着している点にある。 図 1 A及び 1 Bに、 本発明の特徴を説明する、 色材 1に、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 2が固着している分散性色材の模式図を示し た。 図 1 Bの 2 ' の部分は、 色材 1の表面に固着した荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 2 の一部が融着している状態を模式的に示した部分である。
色材が荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を固着していることで、 色材の表面に荷電性樹 脂擬似微粒子による電荷が付与され、 水又は水性ィンク媒体へ分散可能な分散 性色材となる。 また、 同時に該分散性色材は、 表面に固着している樹脂成分が 存在することによって記録媒体への優れた接着性を有するものとなる。 このと き、 樹脂成分の単純な物理吸着の状態ではなく、 本発明において使用する分散 性色材の特徴である、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が色材に固着された状態としてお り、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が色材表面から脱離することがないため、 本発明で 使用する分散性色材は長期保存安定性にも優れている。
ここで、 本発明における荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子とは、 樹脂成分が強く凝集状 態にある樹脂集合体であり、 好ましくはその内部に物理的架橋が多く形成され ているものである (樹脂集合体とは、 樹脂成分が微粒子形態或いはそれに近い 微小凝集体として安定な形態を有しているものである)。 この荷電性樹脂擬似 微粒子についての詳細は後述する。
本発明における荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が色材に固着した状態は、 色材表面と 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子との強い相互作用によりもたらされるるものであり、 次 のような状態で達成されていると考えられる。 図 4に、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 の色材と接する界面を拡大した模式図を示した。 先ず、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 2は様々なモノマーユニット組成 (図中に 9— 1及び 9 _ 2で示した) で構成 されるポリマーが絡み合って形成されている。 色材 1との界面において、 ポリ マ一は局所的に多様な構造をとつているため、 その局所的な表面エネルギーも 多様な状態が分布している。 色材の、 化学構造及び表面構造から生じる表面ェ ネルギ一と、 ポリマ一の化学構造及び表面構造から生じる表面エネルギーとが、 局所的によく一致する点において、 色材とポリマーは強固に結合することとな る (図中に黒丸で示した部分)。 更に、 一つの荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が色材 1 と接する界面には、 図 4に示したように、 符号 1 0により示される、 両者の表 面エネルギーが局所的に一致する点が複数ある。 この複数個所の強固な相互作 用によって本願の固着状態は成り立っていると予想される。 尚、 本発明におい ては、 図 1 B中の 2 ' により示されるような、 荷電性擬似微粒子の表面積の例 えば 3 0 %以上が色材 1と接するような状態を便宜上 「融着」 と称するが、 こ れは固着の一形態であり、 荷電性擬似微粒子と色材とが界面で溶け合つている 必要はない。 特に、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の内部では、 構成するポリマ一間に強い相互作 用が働いており、 場合によっては構成するポリマーは互いに絡まりあって物理 架橋を形成している。 このため、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が多くの親水性基を有 する場合にあっても、 固着した前記荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が色材から脱離した り、 前記荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子から親水性基を有する樹脂成分が溶出し続けた りすることがない。 これに.対し、 前記した特開平 8— 1 8 3 9 2 0号公報のよ うなカプセル化方法においては、 親水性の高い樹脂は色材と強く結合できない ために、 樹脂が色材から脱離し、 結果として長期保存安定性が充分に得られな い場合がある。
また、 本発明において使用する分散性色材が、 色材に荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 を固着していることによるメリットとして、 そのような形態によって分散性色 材の比表面積が増大し、 色材表面の多くの部分に荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が表面 に有する電荷を分布させることができることが挙げられる。 この結果、 分散性 色材が高い比表面積を有することによって、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の有する電 荷を極めて高い効率で分散性色材の表面電荷とすることができる。 即ち、 本発 明において使用する分散性色材の形態は、 より多くの表面電荷をより効率的に 分散性色材の表面に配する形態であり、 前記した特開平 8— 1 8 3 9 2 0号公 報に代表的に示されるような、 色材を樹脂で被覆する形態に比して、 樹脂成分 の実質酸価又はァミン価がより小さい場合においても高い分散安定性を付与 できる。
一般的に、 有機顔料は、 発色性の色材分子が強い相互作用によって結晶化す ることによって不溶化 (顔料化) したものである。 本発明において使用する色 材を有機顔料とした分散性色材の場合は、 前述したように、 荷電性樹脂擬似微 粒子と色材との界面に複数の相互作用点が分布しているので、 荷電性樹脂擬似 微粒子 1 1は、 顔料粒子中のいくつかの色材分子 1 aにまたがって固着する (図 5参照)。 従って、 図 6 A及び 6 Bで説明される、 局所的に色材分子 l a が、 親水性基 1 2によって親水化されることによる 「顔料剥離」 は、 本発明に おいて起こることはない。 好ましくは、 有機顔料を色材として用いる場合にお いては、前記荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の大きさを、顔料の分散粒径よりは小さく、 且つ色材分子よりは大きい範囲内に制御することによって、 顔料の結晶構造を 壊さずに、 高い分散性を付与した有機顔料の分散性色材を得ることができる。 本発明において、 色材が荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を 「固着」 している状態は、 簡 易的には次のような三段階の分離を伴う手法で確認することができる。 先ず、 第一の分離により、 確認する対象の色材と、 インク又は水分散体中に含まれる その他の水溶性成分 (水溶性樹脂成分も含む) とを分離し、 次に、 第二の分離 により、 第一の分離における沈澱物中に含まれる色材と水不溶性樹脂成分とを 分離する。 更に第三の分離により、 弱く吸着されている樹脂成分と、 荷電性樹 脂擬似微粒子を固着している分散性色材とを分離し、 第三の分離で得られる上 澄みに含まれる樹脂成分の定量、 及び第二の分離で得られる沈澱物と第三の分 離で得られる沈澱物との比較、 を行うことによつて色材と荷電性樹脂擬似微粒 子との固着を確認する。
具体的には、 例えば、 次のような条件で確認できる。 色材が分散しているィ ンク又は水分散体 2 0 gをとり、 全固形分質量が約 1 0 %程度となるように調 整し、 遠心分離装置を用いて、 1 2 , 0 0 0回転、 6 0分の条件で第一の分離 を行う。 分離物のうちの、 色材を含んでいる下層の沈降物を、 該沈降物のほぼ 3倍量の純水に再分散し、 続いて、 8 0, 0 0 0回転、 9 0分の条件で第二の 分離を行う。 色材を含んでいる下層の沈降物を 3倍量の純水に再分散したもの を、 再び 8 0 , 0 0 0回転、 9 0分の条件で第三の分離を行い、 色材を含んで いる下層の沈降物を取り出す。 第二の分離における沈降物と、 第三の分離にお ける沈降物をそれぞれ固形分で 0 . 5 g程度となるようにとり、 3 0 °C、 1 8 時間にて減圧乾燥させたものを、 走査型電子顕微鏡にて 5万倍で観察する。 そ して、 観察された分散性色材が、 その表面に微粒子様物質又はそれに準ずる微 小集合体を複数付着している様子が確認され、 且つ第二の分離と第三の分離か らのそれぞれの沈降物が同様の形態を有していれば、 この色材は樹脂擬似微粒 子を固着していると判断される。 更に、 第三の分離における上層の上澄み分を 上から静かに体積で半分程度となるようにとり、 6 0 °C、 8時間にて乾燥させ た場合の加熱前後の質量変化から固形分率質量を算出し、 その変化が 1 ?。未満 であれば、 分散性色材からの樹脂擬似微粒子の脱離がないと考えられ、 分散性 色材は樹脂擬似微粒子を固着していると判断できる。
上記した各分離条件は単なる好ましい例であり、 その他のどのような分離方 法又は分離条件にあっても、 上述した第一の分離及び第二、 第三の分離の目的 を達する手法であれば、 本発明で使用する分散性色材であるか否かの判定方法 として適用することができる。 即ち、 第一の分離は、 インク及び水分散体中に 含まれる色材及びそれに吸着している樹脂成分と、 水溶性成分とを分離するこ とが目的であり、 第二の分離は、 色材及び色材に固着している樹脂成分と、 色 材に吸着しているその他の樹脂成分とを分離することが目的である。 更に、 第 三の分離は、 色材に固着している樹脂成分が脱離しないことを確認することが 目的である。 勿論、 第一、 第二及び第三の分離のそれぞれの目的を達する分離 手法であれば、 その他の公知の、 或いは新しく開発されるどのような分離手法 でもよく、 その手順も三段階より多くても、 また、 少なくても適用できる。 本発明において使用する分散性色材の第二の特徴は、 水不溶性色材 1が荷電性 樹脂擬似微粒子 2を固着した状態で、 単独で水性媒体中に分散し得る分散性色 材である点にある。 前述したように、 本発明において使用する分散性色材は、 本質的に、 他の界面活性剤や高分子分散剤等の助けがなくとも、 安定に水及び 水性インク中に分散できる、 自己分散性色材である。 この定義及び判定方法に ついては後に詳細に述べる。 従って、 本発明において使用する分散性色材の場 合は、 長期的に脱離する可能性がある高分子分散剤やその他の樹脂成分、 或い は界面活性剤成分を色材の分散安定化を目的として添加する必要がない。 その 結果、 本発明において使用する分散性色材を水性インクとして用いた場合には、 分散性色材以外の成分に関する設計の自由度が大きくなり、 例えば、 普通紙の ようなインクの浸透性が高い記録媒体上においても充分に高い印字濃度を得 られる水性インクとすることも可能である。
本発明において使用する分散性色材の自己分散性については、 例えば、 次の ように確認することができる。 色材が分散しているインク又は水分散体を純水 で 1 0倍に希釈し、 分画分子量 5 0 , 0 0 0の限外ろ過フィルターを用いて元 の濃度になるまで濃縮する。 この濃縮液を遠心分離装置を用いて 1 2 , 0 0 0 回転、 2時間の条件で分離し、 沈降物を取り出して純水に再分散させる。 この とき、沈降物が良好に再分散し得るものが、 自己分散性を有すると判断される。 良好に再分散しているかどうかは、 目で見て均一に分散していること、 1〜2 時間静置している間に目立った沈降物が発生しないか、 あっても軽く震蕩すれ ば元に戻ること、 動的光散乱法にて分散粒径を測定した際に、 平均粒径が操作 前の粒径の 2倍以内であること、 等から総合的に判断することができる。
前述したように、 本発明において使用する分散性色材は、 色材が荷電性樹脂擬 似微粒子を固着することによって高い比表面積を有する形態をとり、 その広大 な表面に多くの電荷を有することで、 優れた保存安定性を実現する。 従って、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子は、 色材に対して多数、 且つ点在して固着していること により更に好ましい結果が得られる。 特に、 固着している荷電性樹脂擬似微粒 子間に一定の距離があり、 好ましくは均一に分布していることが望ましい。 更 に好ましくは、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子間に色材の粒子表面が一部露出している ことが望ましい。 このような形態は、 本発明に係る水性インクを透過型電子顕 微鏡或いは走査型電子顕微鏡で観察することにより確認される。 即ち、 色材表 面に固着している荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が、 一定の距離をおいて複数固着して いるか、 或いは固着している荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子間に、 色材表面が露出して いる状態が観察できる。 尚、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子は、 時に部分的に近接し、 場合によっては融着しているものも観察され得るが、 この場合であっても、 全 体として荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子間に距離があり、 または色材表面が露出してい る部分があり、 尚且つ、 これらの状態が分布している場合には、 荷電性樹脂擬 似微粒子が色材に対して点在して固着していると見なされることは、 当業者に は明白である。
更に、 本発明において使用する上記した特徴を有する分散性色材を含む水性 インクは、 記録媒体上で優れた速乾性を示すことが明らかとなった。 この理由 は定かではないが、 次のようなメカニズムに基づくものと考えられる。 前記分 散性色材は上述したように、 色材表面に荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を固着した形態 でインク中に分散している。 このインクが記録媒体上に到達したとき、 インク 中の水性溶媒 (以下、 インク溶媒という) は、 毛細管現象により記録媒体上の .細孔 (普通紙の場合はセルロース繊維間の空隙であり、 コート紙や光沢紙の場 合は受容層の細孔である) へ吸収される。 このとき、 本発明において使用する 分散性色材の場合は、 その形態的特徴から、 色材同士が接した部分に荷電性樹 脂擬似微粒子が点在して細かい隙間を多く形成する。 このため、 色材間に存在 するインク溶媒に毛細管現象が働いて、 速やかに記録媒体中に吸収される。 本 発明に係る水性ィンクにおいて、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が表面に点在した形態 の分散性色材を使用しているものが、 より好ましい速乾性を示すことからも、 上述したメカニズムによって速乾性が達成されていることが予想される。
本発明にかかる分散性色材の表面官能基密度は、 2 5 0 m o 1 / g以上 1 , 0 0 0 ^ m o 1 ./ g未満であることが好ましく、 2 9 0 m o l Z g以上 9 0 0 x m o 1 未満であることが更に好ましい。 2 5 0 m o 1 Z gより小さ な表面官能基密度を有する場合、 分散性色材の長期保存安定性が悪くなること がある。 また、 1 , 0 0 0 ; m o 1 Z gよりかなり大きな表面官能基密度を有 する場合には、 分散安定性が高くなりすぎて、 記録媒体上で浸透し易くなり、 高い印字濃度を確保することが難しくなる場合がある。 上記表面官能基密度は、 例えば、 次のようにして求める。 先ず、 測定対象の 分散性色材を含む水分散体又はインクに大過剰量の塩酸 (H C 1 ) 水溶液を加 え、 遠心分離装置を用いて 2 0, 0 0 0 r p m、 1時間の条件で沈降させる。 沈降物を回収し、 純水に再分散させた後、 乾燥法にて固形分率を測定する。 再 分散させた沈降物を秤量し、 既知量の炭酸水素ナトリウムを加えて攪拌した分 散液を、 更に遠心分離装置を用いて 8 0, 0 0 0 r p m, 2時間の条件で沈降 させる。 上澄みを秤量し、 0 . 1規定の塩酸による中和滴定より求めた中和量 から、 炭酸水素ナトリウムの既知量を差し引くことで、 色材 l gあたりの m o 1数として、 表面官能基密度が求められる。
次に、 本発明で使用する分散性色材を構成する各成分について説明する。
[色材]
本発明において使用する分散性色材の構成成分である色材について以下に 説明する。 本発明において用いられる色材としては公知の色材又は新規に開発 された色材のうち、 水に不溶な色材で、 分散剤とともに水中にて安定に分散で きるものを使用することが望ましい。 このようなものとしては、 疎水性染料、 無機顔料、 有機顔料、 金属コロイド、 着色樹脂粒子等が挙げられる。 好ましく は、 分散粒径が 0 . 0 1〜0 . 5 m ( 1 0〜5 0 0 n m) の範囲内、 特に好 ましくは 0 . 0 3〜0 . 3 ( 3 0〜3 0 0 n m) の範囲内にある色材を使 用する。 この範囲内の分散粒径を有する色材を用いた分散性色材は、 水性イン クとして用いた場合に、 高い着色力と高い耐候性を有する画像を与える好まし い分散性色材となる。 尚、 斯かる分散粒径は、 動的光散乱法によって測定され た粒径のキュムラント平均値とする。
本発明において、 色材に有効に用いることのできる無機顔料としては、 例え ば、 カーボンブラック、 酸化チタン、 亜鉛華、 酸化亜鉛、 トリポン、 酸化鉄、 カドミウムレッド、 モリブデンレッド、 クロムバーミリオン、 モリブデートォ レンジ、 黄鉛、 クロムイエロ一、 カドミウムイェロー、 黄色酸化鉄、 チタンィ エロ一、 酸化クロム、 ピリジアン、 コバルトグリーン、 チタンコバルトダリ一 ン、 コバルトクロムグリーン、 群青、 ウルトラマリンブルー、 紺青、 コバルト ブル一、 セルリアンブル一、 マンガンバイオレット、 コバルトバイオレット、 マイ力等が挙げられる。
本発明において有効に用いることのできる有機顔料としては、 例えば、 ァゾ 系、 ァゾメチン系、 ポリアゾ系、 フタロシアニン系、 キナクリドン系、 アンス ラキノン系、 インジゴ系、 チォインジゴ系、 キノフタロン系、 ベンツイミダゾ ロン系、 イソインドリン系、 イソインドリノン系等の各種顔料が挙げられる。 その他、 本発明において用いることのできる有機性の不溶性色材としては、 例 えば、 ァゾ系、 アントラキノン系、 インジゴ系、 フタロシアニン系、 カルボ二 ル系、 キノンィミン系、 メチン系、 キノリン系、 ニトロ系等の疎水性染料が挙 げられる。 これらの中でも分散染料が特に好ましい。
[荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子]
本発明において使用する分散性色材のもう一つの構成成分である荷電性樹 脂擬似微粒子は、 水に対し実質的に不溶であり、 固着する対象である色材の水 中 (或いはインク中) での分散単位 (分散粒径) は小さく、 充分に重合度の高 い樹脂成分が集合してなる微小体と定義される。 微小体の形態としては擬似的 に球体に近いか、 または複数の微小体 (荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子) の大きさが一 定範囲内で揃っているものである。 好ましくは荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を構成す る樹脂成分は、 互いに物理的に又は化学的に架橋されていることが望ましレ^ 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を構成する樹脂成分が互いに架橋されているかどうか については、 例えば、 以下のような手法を用いることで確かめられる。 荷電性 樹脂擬似微粒子を構成する樹脂成分を予め公知の分析方法にて推定し、 同じ化 学構造となる (または同じモノマーユニット組成となる) 直鎖型ポリマーを溶 液重合により合成し、 そのポリマ一に対して良溶媒である有機溶媒に荷電性樹 脂擬似微粒子及びポリマーをそれぞれ浸漬させてその溶解性を比較したとき、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の溶解性がポリマーの溶解性よりも低い場合に、 荷電性 樹脂擬似微粒子の内部が架橋されていることが確かめられる。
また、 別の好ましい様態としては、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の水中での分散粒 径が、 例えば、 動的光散乱法にて測定可能な場合においては、 好ましくはその キュムラント分散粒径の平均値が 1 O n m以上 2 0 0 n m以下の範囲にある ことが望ましい。 更に、 分散性色材の長期保存安定性の観点からは、 分散粒径 の多分散度指数が 0 . 2未満に抑えられることが更に好ましい。 分散粒径の中 心値が 2 0 O n mより大きい場合又は多分散度指数が 0 . 2より大きい場合に は、 色材を微細に分散安定化するという本来の目的が充分達成されない場合が ある。 また、 分散粒径の平均値が 1 0 n mより小さい場合には、 荷電性樹脂擬 似微粒子としての形態を充分に維持できず、 樹脂が水に溶解し易くなるために、 本発明のメリッ卜が得られない場合がある。 一方、 1 0 n m以上 2 0 0 n m以 下の範囲にある場合、 更にその粒子径が色材粒子そのものよりも小さいことに よって、 本発明における荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の固着による色材の分散安定化 が効果的に発現される。 上記の好ましい様態は、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の分散 粒径が測定不可能な場合においても同様であり、 その場合は、 例えば、 電子顕 微鏡観察における前記荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の平均径が、 上記した好ましい範 囲内にあるか又はそれに準ずる範囲内にあると考えられる。
また、 色材が有機顔料である場合においては、 上記の範囲に加えて、 前述し たように荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が顔料の分散粒径よりは小さく、 且つ色材分子 より大きい範囲内にあるようにとすることによって、 構造的に極めて安定で且 つ高い分散性を有する分散性色材が得られるので、 特に望ましい。
本発明における荷電性とは、 水性媒体中においてそのもの自身が何らかのか たちでイオン化した官能基を保持しており、 望ましくはその荷電性によって自 己分散可能である状態をいう。 従って、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子であるかどうか については、 公知且つ任意の手法、 例えば、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の表面ゼー 夕電位を測定する方法、 後述するような手法により電位差滴定を行い、 官能基 密度として算出する方法、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の水系分散体中に電解質を添 加して分散安定性の電解質濃度依存性を確かめる方法、 または、 荷電性樹脂擬 似微粒子の化学構造分析を公知の手法により行い、 イオン性官能基の有無を調 ベる方法、 のいずれかの方法で確認することができる。
荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を構成する樹脂成分としては、 一般的に用いられるあ らゆる天然又は合成高分子、 或いは本発明のために新規に開発された高分子等、 いかなる樹脂成分であっても制限なく使用できる。 使用できる樹脂成分として は、 例えば、 アクリル樹脂、 スチレン/アクリル樹脂、 ポリエステル樹脂、 ポ リウレ夕ン樹脂、 ポリウレァ樹脂、 多糖類、 ポリペプチド類等が挙げられる。 特に、 一般的に使用でき、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の機能設計を簡便に行えると いう観点から、 アクリル樹脂やスチレン/アクリル樹脂に代表される、 ラジカ ル重合性不飽和結合を有するモノマー成分の重合体或いは共重合体が、 好まし く使用できる。
具体的には、 例えば、 アクリル酸、 メタクリル酸、 クロトン酸、 エタァクリ ル酸、 プロピルアクリル酸、 イソプロピルアクリル酸、 ィタコン酸、 フマール 酸等の如きカルボキシル基を有するモノマ一及びこれらの塩、 スチレンスルホ ン酸、 スルホン酸一 2 _プロピルアクリルアミド、 アクリル酸— 2—スルホン 酸ェチル、 メタクリル酸一 2—スルホン酸ェチル、 ブチルアクリルアミドスル ホン酸等の如きスルホン酸基を有するァニオン性親水性モノマーとこれらの 塩、 メ夕クリル酸一 2—ホスホン酸ェチル、 アクリル酸 _ 2—ホスホン酸ェチ ル等の如きホスホン酸基を有するァニオン性親水性モノマー等が挙げられる。 本発明において好適に用いられる荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子としては、 樹脂のガ ラス転移温度が一 4 0 ° (:〜 6 0 °Cであるものが好ましい。 この範囲内にあるこ とによって、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子に高い造膜性 (膜形成能) が付与され、 記 録紙上で隣り合った色材同士が造膜し、 強固な着色膜を形成し得る。 従って、 このような構成を有する分散性色材を用いることによって、 得られる印字物に、 高い耐擦過性を付与することができる。
荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子のガラス転移温度は、 以下の手順により測定すること ができる。 分散性色材を塩酸などにより酸析を行って析出分を回収する。 さら に、 析出分を TH T (テ卜ラヒドロフラン) 等の有機溶剤を用いてソックスレ 一抽出し、 有機溶剤を留去することで色材に固着した荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を 得ることができる。 得られた荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子成分を示差走査熱分析する ことでガラス転移温度を測定することができる。 例えば、 M E T T L E R社製 の D S C 8 2 2 e (商品名) 等の装置を用いるとよい。 分散性色材と水溶性ノ 二オン性樹脂とが共存する水分散液の場合には、 遠心分離装置を用いて分離す ることができる。 たとえば、 1 2 0 0 0 r p mの遠心分離条件で分離をおこな うと、 分散性色材を沈降分として得ることができる。
上記した条件を満たした上で、 更に荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を構成する樹脂成 分のラジカル重合性不飽和結合を有するモノマー種や共重合比率を適宜選択 することにより、 本発明の分散性色材、 及び色材に固着している荷電性樹脂擬 似微粒子にさらなる機能を付与することができる。 モノマ一種としては、 具体 的には、 疎水性モノマー、 上述したようなァニオン性親水性モノマー、 ノニォ ン性親水性モノマーが挙げられる。
疎水性モノマ一としては、 例えば、 アクリル酸メチル、 アクリル酸エヂル、 アクリル酸イソプロピル、 アクリル酸一 n—プロピル、 アクリル酸 _ n _プチ ル、 アクリル酸一 t—プチル、 アクリル酸ベンジル、 メ夕クリル酸メチル、 メ 夕クリル酸ェチル、 メタクリル酸ィソプロピル、メタクリル酸一 n—プロピル、 メタクリル酸— n—プチル、 メタクリル酸ィソプチル、 メ夕クリル酸一 t一ブ チル、 メ夕クリル酸トリデシル、 メタクリル酸べンジル等の如き (メタ) ァク リル酸エステル;スチレン、 α—メチルスチレン、 ο—メチルスチレン、 m— メチルスチレン、 p—メチルスチレン、 p— t e r t—ブチルスチレン等の如 きスチレン系モノマー;ィタコン酸べンジル等の如きィタコン酸エステル;マ レイン酸ジメチル等の如きマレイン酸エステル; フマール酸ジメチル等の如き フマール酸エステル;アクリロニトリル、 メタクリロニトリル、 酢酸ビニル等 が挙げられる。
また、 ァニオン性基を有する親水性モノマーとしては、 上述したものが挙げ られる。
また、 前記ノニオン性親水性モノマ一としては、 具体的には、 (メタ) ァク リル酸ヒドロキシェチル、 (メタ) アクリル酸ヒドロキシルプロピル等の構造 内にラジカル重合性の不飽和結合と強い親水性を示すヒドロキシル基を同時 に有するモノマ一類、 更に、 メトキシポリエチレングリコール (メタ) ァクリ レート、 エトキシポリエチレングリコール (メタ) ァクリレー卜、 ポリエチレ ングリコール (メタ) ァクリレート、 ポリプロピレングリコール (メタ) ァク リレート等のアルキレンオキサイド基を含むモノマー類、 この他、 公知又は新 規の各種オリゴマー、 マクロモノマ一等についても制限なく使用できる。
特に前記アルキレンオキサイド基含有モノマーは、 前記疎水性モノマ一成分と の共重合性に優れ、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の表面性質の均一性、 及び色材への 均一な固着性、 融着性を与えるという観点から好ましい結果を与える。
荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を構成するモノマーの種類や共重合比率、 作製する際 に使用する重合開始剤の種類や濃度等の多くの制御因子によって、 分散性色材 及び荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の種々の特性を、 適宜に制御することが可能である。 特に、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を、 上記に列挙したモノマ一のうち、 少なくとも 1種類の疎水性モノマ一と、 少なくとも 1種類の親水性モノマーとを含むモノ マー成分の共重合体からなる構成とすることは望ましい様態である。 このとき、 少なくとも 1種類の疎水性モノマーを用いて構成することで、 色材への良好な 固着性と熱安定性を、 少なくとも 1種類の親水性モノマ一を用いて構成するこ とで良好な形態制御と分散安定性を、それぞれ付与することができる。従って、 これらのモノマ一を同時に用いることで、 常に良好に色材に固着し、 且つ良好 な分散安定性を付与し得る荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を得ることができる。
[荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の合成及び色材への固着]
荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の合成、 及び色材への固着は、 公知である荷電性樹脂 擬似微粒子の合成方法や、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子と色材の複合化方法の手順に 従うことよって実施し得る。これに関連して、本発明者らは、鋭意検討の結果、 本発明の特徴である、 色材と、 該色材より小さい荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子とを有 する分散性色材であって、 該色材に、 該荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が固着している 状態の散性色材を簡便に得ることができる製造方法を発明するに至った。 以下、 本発明において使用する分散性色材が容易に得られる、 分散性色材の好適な製 造方法について説明する。
本発明者らの検討の結果、 上述したような特性を有する、 本発明において使 用する分散性色材は、 下記の条件で水系析出重合法を適用することによって、 極めて簡便に製造できることが明らかとなった。 斯かる製造方法では、 先ず、 分散剤を用いて水不溶性色材を分散することによって該水不溶性色材の分散 水溶液を調製する。 次いで、 この分散水溶液中において、 水性ラジカル重合開 始剤を用いてラジカル重合性モノマーを水系析出重合する工程によって、 色材 に荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を固着させる。 この水系析出重合する工程を経て得ら れた分散性色材は、 水系析出重合過程で合成された荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が、 均一且つ点在した状態で色材に強力に固着した水不溶性色材となり、 単独での 分散安定性に優れたものとなる。 また、 上記した水系析出重合過程において、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の特性を、 これまで述べたような好ましい形態に簡便に 制御することができるが、 その際にも、 本発明の特徴である色材と荷電性樹脂 擬似微粒子との固着状態が良好に達成される。 以下、 上記製造方法における好 ましい実施形態を更に詳しく述べる。
(水不溶性色材の分散) 先ず、 前述したような本発明において好ましく用いられる水不溶性色材を分 散剤によって分散して、 水分散体とする。 色材を水溶液に分散させるための分 散剤としては、 イオン性、 ノニオン性等、 いずれのものも使用できるが、 その 後の重合工程での分散安定性を保つ観点から、 高分子分散剤又は水溶性高分子 を用いることが望ましい。 特に、 充分な水溶性を示し、 色材微粒子表面及び重 合工程で加えられるラジカル重合性モノマー、 特に疎水性モノマーの油滴界面 への吸着サイトとなる、 疎水部分を有しているものが好ましく用いられる。 更 に望ましくは、 その後の重合工程で用いる疎水性モノマーのうちの少なくとも 1種類が、 分散剤を構成するュニットとして存在しているようにすることが、 その後の重合工程において荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の色材への固着を誘起し易 い観点から、 好ましい。
本発明において使用することができる分散剤として機能する、 高分子分散剤 及び水溶性高分子の製造方法は、 特に限定されず、 例えば、 イオン性基を有す るモノマーと、 他の重合し得るモノマーとを、 非反応性溶媒中で、 触媒の存在 下又は不存在下で反応させることにより製造できる。 特に、 前述したようなィ オン性基を有するモノマーと、 スチレンモノマーとを必須成分として重合させ ることによって得られるスチレンノアクリル系高分子化合物、 またはイオン性 基を有するモノマーと、 炭素原子の個数が 5以上の (メタ) アクリル酸エステ ルモノマーとを必須成分として重合させることによって得られるイオン性基 含有ァクリル系高分子化合物から、 選ばれる分散剤を用いると良好な結果とな ることが明らかとなっている。 この際、 得られる分散性色材が特にァニオン性 基を有することを目的としている場合には、 ァニオン性の分散剤を、 一方、 得 られる分散性色材が特にカチオン性基を有することを目的としている場合に は、 カチオン性基を有するか或いはノニオン性の分散剤を、 それぞれ選択する ことが望ましい。
後続の水系析出重合の過程で、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の色材への固着を促進 することと、 重合過程での色材の分散安定性を保持することとを両立する観点 から、 ァニオン性分散剤を用いる場合には酸価 1 0 0以上 2 5 0以下のもの、 カチオン性分散剤を用いる場合にはァミン価 1 5 0以上 3 0 0以下のもの、 を それぞれ用いることも望ましい形態である。 酸価及びアミン価がこれら下限値 より小さい場合には、 水系析出重合の際に、 疎水性モノマーと分散剤との親和 性が、 色材と分散剤との親和性より高くなり、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が色材に 固着するより前に分散剤が色材表面から脱離して、 分散状態を保てなくなる場 合がある。 また、 酸価及びアミン価がこれら上限値より大きい場合には、 色材 表面での分散剤の排除体積効果及び静電反発力が強くなり過ぎるために、 色材 への荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の固着が阻害される場合がある。 ァニオン性分散剤 を用いる場合には、 色材への樹脂微粒子の固着 ¾阻害しない観点から、 ァニォ ン性基としてカルボキシル基を有する分散剤を選択することが好ましい。
水不溶性色材を分散剤を用いて分散水溶液とする過程において、 色材は、 好ま しくは分散粒径が 0 . O l ^ m以上 0 . 5 m以下 (1 0 n m以上 5 0 0 n m 以下) の範囲内、 特に好ましくは 0 . 0 3 z m以上 0 . 3 m以下 (3 0 n m 以上 3 0 0 n m以下) の範囲内に分散させる。 この過程での分散粒径が、 得ら れる分散性色材の分散粒径に大きく反映し、 前述した着色力や画像の耐候性の 観点、 及び分散安定性の観点から、 上記の範囲が好ましい。
また、 本発明において使用する水不溶性色材の分散粒径分布は、 なるべく単 分散であることが好ましい。 一般的には、 帯電樹脂擬似微粒子が固着して得ら れる分散性色材の粒径分布は、 図 2 Bに示した重合工程よりも前の、 分散水溶 液の粒径分布よりも狭くなる傾向にあるが、 基本的には、 上記した分散水溶液 の粒径分布に依存する。 また、 色材と帯電樹脂擬似微粒子とのヘテロ凝集によ る固着を確実に誘起するためにも、 色材の粒径分布を狭くすることは重要であ る。 本発明者らの検討によれば、 色材の多分散度指数が 0 . 2 5以下の範囲に あるものを使用したときに、 得られる分散性色材の分散安定性が優れたものと なる。
ここで、 分散状態にある色材の粒径は各種測定方式で異なり、 特に、 有機顔 料は球形粒子である場合は極めて少ないが、 本発明においては、 大塚電子工業 社製 E L S— 8 0 0 0 (商品名) によって動的光散乱法を原理として測定し、 キュムラント解析することによって求められた平均粒径と多分散度指数を用 いた。
水不溶性色材を水に分散させる方法は、 前記したような条件で色材が水に安 定に分散できる方法のうち、 前記したような分散剤を用いた方法であればいず れでもよく、 従来知られているいずれの方法にも限定されない。 或いは本発明 のために新規に開発された分散方法であってもよい。 使用する高分子分散剤の 添加量としては、 一般的には、 例えば、 水不溶性色材が顔料である場合は、 顔 料に対し 1 0質量%以上 1 3 0質量%以下とすることが適している。
本発明で用いられる色材の分散方法としては、例えば、ペイントシエイカ一、 サンドミル、 アジテーターミル、 3本口一ルミル等の分散機やマイクロフルイ ダイザ一、 ナノマイザ一、 アルチマイザ一等の高圧ホモジナイザ一、 超音波分 散機等、 それぞれの色材に一般的に用いられる分散方法であれば、 どのような 手法でも制限されない。
(水系析出重合)
続いて、 本発明の特徴である荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を合成し、 色材に固着さ せる工程である、 水系析出重合の好ましい実施形態について述べる。 尚、 本発 明は以下に述べる実施形態によって何ら制限されるものではない。 図 2 A、 2 B、 2 C及び 2 Dは、 上記製造方法の工程フローを模式的に説明した工程図で ある。本工程によって分散性色材を得るまでの過程は、次のように考えられる。 先ず、 図 2 Aに示したように、 水溶液中に色材 1を分散剤 3によって分散した 分散水溶液を用意する。 このとき、 色材 1は、 分散剤 3の吸着によって分散安 定化されており、 この吸着は熱的に平衡状態にある。 次に、 図 2 Aに示すよう に用意した分散水溶液を撹拌しながら昇温し、 この中に、 モノマー成分 4を、 例えば、 水性ラジカル重合開始剤 5と共に添加する (図 2 B参照)。 添加され た水性ラジカル重合開始剤 5は、 昇温することにより解裂してラジカルを発生 し、 分散水溶液中に添加されたモノマー成分のうち、 微量に水相に溶解した疎 水性モノマーと、 水相中の水溶性モノマーとの反応に寄与する。
図 3は、. 図 2 Cに示す、 モノマー 4が重合し、 分散性色材を生成するまでの 過程を段階的に説明した模式図である。 前記したようなモノマ一 4の反応が進 行すると、 モノマー成分の重合反応によって生成したオリゴマー 7は水に不溶 性となり、 水相より析出して析出物 8となる。 しかし、 この析出物 8としての オリゴマー 7は、 十分な分散安定性を有していないため、 合一して荷電性樹脂 擬似微粒子 2を形成する。 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 2は更に、 分散水溶液中の色 材 1の有する疎水性表面を核としてへテロ凝集を起こし、 色材 1の表面と荷電 性樹脂擬似微粒子 2を構成する樹脂成分が疎水性相互作用によつて強く吸着 する。 このとき、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 2の内部では重合反応が進行し続けて おり、 色材 1との吸着点を増やしながら、 よりエネルギー的に安定する形態へ 変化する。 同時に、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 2の内部では高度に物理架橋が形成 されるため、 色材 1と最も安定に吸着する形態を固定して固着状態となる。 一 方、 色材 1は、 複数の荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 2が固着していくことによって安 定化され、 平衡状態にあった分散剤 3は、 色材 1の表面から脱離する。
図 4に、 上記のようにして得られた荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 2の、 色材 1との 固着界面側の模式図を示した。 図 4に示すように、 樹脂成分の集合体である荷 電性樹脂擬似微粒子は、 親水性モノマーユニット 9一 1、 疎水性モノマーュニ ット 9一 2等が任意に分布して存在するため、 その局所的な表面エネルギーに は分布があり、 色材の表面エネルギーと一致する吸着点 1 0が多数存在す 。 図 5に、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 1 1の一部と色材粒子の一部の分子 1 aとの固 着界面部分の拡大模式図を示す。 図に示すように、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の界 面 1 1は、 図 4に示した吸着点 1 0を吸着しながら、 色材の一部の分子 1 aの 表面形状に応じた形態をとつて安定に固着する。 前述したようにこの過程にお いても荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子内での重合反応が進行しているため、 吸着が安定 化した形態で固定化されることで色材への固着を達成する。 以上のような過程 により、 前記した構成の分散性色材が、 容易に形成される (図 2 D参照)。 こ のとき、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が充分な表面電荷を有して自己分散性を達成し ている系においては、 ヘテロ凝集による色材への吸着及び固着過程において、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子間に相互に静電斥力が働くことによって、 荷電性樹脂擬 似微粒子は、 色材に対して点在して固着し、 前述した好ましい形態となる。 重合反応条件は、 使用する重合開始剤及び分散剤、 モノマーの性質によっても 異なるが、例えば、反応温度は 1 0 0 °C以下とし、好ましくは 4 0 °C以上 8 0 °C 以下の範囲である。 また、 反応時間は、 1時間以上、 好ましくは 6時間以上 3 0時間以下である。 反応中の撹拌速度は、 5 0 r p m以上 5 0 0 r p m以下、 好ましくは 1 5 0 r p m以上 4 0 0 r p m以下とするのが望ましい。
前述した工程において、 特に、 少なくとも 1種類の疎水性モノマーと、 少な くとも 1種類の親水性モノマーとを含むモノマー成分を重合させて荷電性樹 脂擬似微粒子を得る際には、 好ましくは前記モノマー成分を、 水性ラジカル重 合開始剤をあらかじめ含んだ水不溶性色材の分散水溶液中に滴下することが 望ましい。 または、 水不溶性色材の分散水溶液中に、 水性ラジカル重合開始剤 と同時又は別々に滴下して加えることも望ましい形態である。 疎水性モノマ一 と親水性モノマーのように性質の異なるモノマ一の混合物から、 所望の荷電性 樹脂擬似微粒子を均一に得るためには、 前記性質の異なるモノマーの共重合比 率を常に一定に保つことが望ましい。 前記モノマーの混合物を一定時間内に重 合反応で消費されるモノマー量に比して過剰に重合系内に添加した場合、 特定 のモノマー種のみが先行して重合し、 残りのモノマ一は先行で重合したモノマ 一が消費されてから重合'する傾向があり、 この場合には、 生成される荷電性樹 脂擬似微粒子の性質に大きな不均一が生じる。 こうして生成した荷電性樹脂擬 似微粒子のうち、 特に親水性モノマー成分の含有量の大きいものは、 色材の表 面に固着できない場合がある。
更に、 親水性モノマ一成分の含有量の大きい樹脂成分に至っては、 その高い 親水性によつて析出できず、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が形成されずに水溶性樹脂 成分として系内に残存してしまう場合がある。 一方、 モノマー成分を、 水性ラ ジカル重合開始剤を含んだ水不溶性色材の分散水溶液中に滴下することによ つて、 疎水性モノマーと親水性モノマーとの共重合比率が常に一定に保たれた、 所望の共重合比率で構成される荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を均一に得ることがで きる。
また、 親水性モノマ一として、 特に、 アクリル酸、 メ夕クリル酸等のァニォ ン性モノマ一を重合系内に添加する際に、 色材を分散している高分子分散剤の 特性によっては部分的に不安定化し、 凝集を引き起こす場合もある。 これを防 ぐために、 ァニオン性モノマ を予め中和し、 ナトリウム塩やカリウム塩の状 態で添加することも好適な実施形態である。
上述した工程により得た、 本発明に係る、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が色材に固 着した水不溶性色材を用いて水性インクを調製する際には、 上記の工程に加え て、 更に精製処理を行うことが望ましい。 特に、 上記において、 未反応の重合 開始剤、 モノマ一成分、 分散剤、 固着に至らなかった水溶性樹脂成分及び荷電 性樹脂擬似微粒子等について精製処理を行うことは、 分散性色材の保存安定性 を高く維持する点で重要である。 使用する精製方法としては、 通常一般的に用 いられている精製方法から最適なものを選択して用いればよい。 例えば、 遠心 分離法や、 限外ろ過法を用いて精製することも好ましい実施形態である。
上述した工程を経れば、 多くの制御因子をコン卜ロールすることによって、 色材の表面に所望の共重合体からなる荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が固着されてな る分散性色材を得ることができる。 特に、 高い分散安定性を目的としてァニォ ン性モノマーを使用する場合には、 本発明の工程を経た分散性色材は、 上記の 工程で用いるァニオン性モノマーが比較的少ない量であっても大きな表面官 能基密度を得ることができ、 高い分散安定性を付与することができる。 この結 果、 長期保存安定性を損なうことなく、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の分散安定性を 高くすることが可能となる。
この理由は明らかでないが、 本発明者らは次のように考えている。 水中で発 生したラジカルにより重合が開始され、 オリゴマーが析出して荷電性樹脂擬似 微粒子を形成する際、 ァニオン性モノマー由来成分の多い部分が優先的に水相 側、 即ち、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子の表面付近に配向する。 この状態は、 前記荷 電性樹脂擬似微粒子が色材に固着した後にも維持され、 構造的に大きな比表面 積を有する本発明で使用する分散性色材では、 更に、 ァニオン性モノマー成分 由来のァニオン性基が多く存在し、 結果として、 上記した製造方法によって得 られる分散性色材は、 より少ないァニオン性モノマー成分で安定化されると予 想される。
[水溶性ノニオン性樹脂]
本発明にかかるインクのもう 1つの特徴である、 インク中に添加する水溶性 ノニオン性樹脂について説明する。 本発明で使用する水溶性ノニオン性樹脂と しては、 上に挙げたようなノニオン性疎水性モノマーと、 ノニオン性親水性モ ノマーとの共重合体であることが望ましい。 即ち、 ノニオン性疎水性モノマ一 を樹脂の構成成分とすることで、 前記した分散性色材の記録紙上への高い定着 性が得られ、一方、 ノニオン性親水性モノマーを樹脂の構成成分にすることで、 樹脂の性質を水溶性にし、 記録紙上において色材と色材との間に水溶性ノニォ ン性樹脂 1 5— 1を良好に浸透させ (図 7 A参照)、 色材間の隙間を埋め、 色 材と色材との間に浸透した水溶性ノニオン性樹脂は、 樹脂膜 1 5— 2を形成し (図 7 B参照)、 記録画像に平滑性を与えることを可能とする。 即ち、 インク 中に含有させた、 このような構成の水溶性ノニオン性樹脂を記録紙上の色材の 隙間を埋めて、 造膜させ、 記録画像面を平滑にすることで、 画像の光沢性の向 上を図ることができる。
本発明において好適に利用できる水溶性ノニオン性樹脂としては、 例えば、 アルキレンオキサイド基を含むモノマー類の重合体、 或いは、 アルキレンォキ サイド基を含むモノマ一類或いはビニルアルコールと、 スチレンまたはメ夕ク リル酸メチルとの共重合体等が挙げられる。 特には、 下記の共重合体が好適で ある。 スチレン/ CH2=C (R,) COOR2の 40〜70.Z60〜30共重合 体が挙げられる。 但し式中の、 R, = Hまたは CH3、 R2=- (CH2CH20) n _R3 (n= l〜30)、 R3=Hまたは CH3である。
これに対し、 ノニオン性親水性モノマーの代わりにァニオン性又はカチオン 性モノマーを用いて共重合させた水溶性荷電性樹脂をインクに含有させた場 合においては、 下記の点から好ましくない。 分散性色材の荷電性樹脂擬似微粒 子と該水溶性荷電性樹脂とが電気的に相反する場合、 すなわち、 荷電性微粒子 がァニオン性でありかつ水溶性荷電性樹脂がカチオン性である場合や、 荷電性 微粒子がカチオン性でありかつ水溶性荷電性樹脂がァニオン性である場合、 分 散性色材のイオンと水溶性荷電性樹脂のイオンがイオン結合し凝集してしま レ 分散性を失うことがある。 一方、 分散性色材の荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子と水 溶性荷電性樹脂とが電気的に同質であった場合は、 分散性色材と分散性色材の 隙間に水溶性荷電性樹脂がとどまることが難しくなり、 記録画像の光沢性向上 の効果が小さくなることがあるため、 ノニオン性親水性モノマーを使用する方 がより好ましい。
本発明において使用する水溶性ノニオン性樹脂は、 重量平均分子量 Mwが 1, 000〜100, 000であることが好ましく、 特には、 2, 000〜30, 000であることが好ましい。 更には、 2, 000〜10, 000であること が好ましい。 この範囲であれば、 記録画像に平滑性を与えるための流動性を得 ることができる。 更に、 水溶性ノニオン性樹脂の含有量としては、 インク中に 1質量%以上添加することで記録画像に平滑性を与えることができる。 更には、 特に制限は無いが、 インクの粘度が高くなり、 記録画像に平滑性を与えるため の流動性を失う可能性がることから、 インク中 1 0質量%以下の含有量とする ことが好ましい。
[ェマルジヨン粒子]
本発明のもう 1つの特徴であるェマルジヨン粒子に関しては、 公知の方法で 合成したものや上記の方法で色材を除いて合成したものが問題なく使用でき るが、 分散性色材の荷電性微粒子と電気的に同質であるか、 又はノニオン性で あることが好ましい。 即ち、 荷電性微粒子がァニオン性であれば、 ェマルジョ ン粒子もァニオン性、 荷電性微粒子がカチオン性であれば、 ェマルジヨン粒子 もカチオン性であることが好ましい。 電気的性質が相反すると、 分散性色材の イオンとェマルジョン粒子のイオンとがイオン結合して凝集してしまい、 分散 性を失うことがある。 よって、 ェマルジヨン粒子が分散性色材の荷電性微粒子 と電気的に同質であるか又はノニオン性であることが必要である。
また、 ェマルジヨン粒子は、 水性インク中で 1 0 n m〜8 0 n mの平均粒径 をもつことが望ましい。 平均粒径が 1 O n mより大きければ、 記録媒体に浸透 することなく、 記録媒体上に留まり、 分散性色材と分散性色材の隙間を埋める ことで画像に平滑性を与えることができ、 光沢性の向上が得られる。 一方、 ェ マルジョン粒子の平均粒径が 8 0 n mを超えると、 分散性色材と分散性色材の 隙間を埋める効果よりも、 分散性色材に積み重なることで、 更なる隙間をつく り出し平滑性が失われることがある。
更に、 ェマルジヨン粒子のガラス転移温度 (T g ) が— 4 0 °C以上 6 0 °C以 下であることが望ましい。 この範囲内にあることによって、 分散性色材と分散 性色材の隙間で造膜を行い、 記録画像面に平滑性及び膜強度を与え、 記録画像 の光沢性及び擦過性の何れか一方の向上を得ることができる。 この際、 ェマル ジョン粒子のガラス転移温度 (T g ) の違いにより、 代表的な下記の 3つの効 果があげられる。 ただし、 これらの効果の複合系も T gの異なるェマルジヨン 粒子を加えることにより選択できる。
まず、 水性インク中において粒子状で分散していたェマルジヨン粒子 1 6 _ 1が、 記録画像形成時に粒子の状態を維持したまま積み重なり、 分散性色材と 分散性色材の隙間を埋め造膜する第一の効果 (図 8 A参照) ;水性ィンク中に おいて粒子状で分散していたエマルジョン粒子が記録画像形成時に潰れて、 粒 子 1 6— 2の状態を維持したまま積み重なつているェマルジョン粒子とエマ ルジョン粒子の隙間を埋めて造膜する第二の効果 (図 8 B参照) ;及び、 水性 ィンク中において粒子状で分散していたェマルジョン粒子が記録画像形成時 に粒子の状態を失い、 流動性を得たェマルジョン 1 6— 3が、 残った隙間へ流 れ込み、 隙間を埋め尽くし、 膜 1 6— 4を形成する第三の効果をそれぞれ得る ことができる (図 8 C及び 8 D参照)。 これら第一、 第二及び第三の効果のい ずれかによれば、 T gを選択することにより単独で記録画像面に平滑性を与え ることもできる。 加えてそれぞれの効果を複合して期待する場合は、 同様に T g範囲を選定するか、 前述したように異なる T gのェマルジヨン粒子を混合す ることによって、 相乗的に記録画像面に平滑性を与えることもできる。 上記の ようなェマルジョン粒子の作用により、 記録画像の光沢性の向上を得ることが できる。
このようなェマルジョン粒子は、 産業的には水系接着剤組成物あるいは印刷 物等の光沢性改善に使用される艷剤 (つや消し剤) として上市されている。 例 えば日本特許第 3 3 5 0 5 1 8号公報、 同第 3 3 3 9 6 2 9号公報ではウレタ ン樹脂から構成される水系ェマルジョンに関する記載が成されている。 これら 水系ェマルジヨンは、 水に所定量の溶解性を示す (最も好適にはメチルェチル ケトン等) 溶剤中でウレタン樹脂を合成し、 水系で中和後に、 攪拌しながら有 機溶剤を留去することにより作製することができる。 また、 特開平 1 0— 2 7 9 8 7 9号公報では 2種以上のモノマ一成分を水系に一括或いは連続的に供 給して水系ェマルジョンを得る方法が開示されている。
これら水系ェマルジョンの場合、 水系で安定に分散する為にヒドロキシル基 やスルホン基等のィォン性官能基を有するモノマーを樹脂中に含有せしめる 必要がある。 従って一般的な乳化重合や懸濁重合法では、 これらイオン性官能 基を有するモノマーが十分にェマルジョン粒子に含有できない場合がある。 こ れらの問題を回避する為に、 予めイオン性官能基を有するポリマーを重合し、 次いで重合溶剤を留去したり、 水相系でイオン性官能基を有するモノマーと疎 水性モノマーとを水系析出重合して、 水系ェマルジヨンを作製する手法が採用 される。 本発明に好適なェマルジヨンとしては、 前記した 2つの手法の何れの ' 方法で作製したものでも良く、 また、 ェマルジヨンを構成するポリマーも何れ の樹脂であっても良い。
ェマルジヨン粒子の含有量としては、 インク中に 0 . 1質量%以上添加する ことで記録画像に平滑性与えることができる。 また、 特に制限は無いが、 イン ク中 1 0質量%以下の含有量とすることがより好ましい。 1 0質量%より大き い含有量とすると、 インクの粘度が高くなり、 記録画像に平滑性を与えるため の流動性を失う可能性があるためである。
[水性インク]
本発明に係る水性インクは、 以上説明した分散性色材と、 水溶性ノニオン性 樹脂及びェマルジョン粒子の少なくとも一方とを含むことを特徴とする。 使用 する色材が顔料である場合には、 一般的には顔料含有量がィンクの全質量に対 して 0 . 1質量? ό以上 2 0質量%以下、好ましくは 0 . 3質量%以上 1 5質量% 以下とする。 更に、 水性媒体としては、 水、 またはこれに水溶性の有機溶媒を 必要に応じて含む混合媒体も好ましい。 また、 記録媒体への浸透性を助けるた めの浸透剤、 防腐剤、 防黴剤等をさらに含んでもよい。
本発明において使用する分散性色材は、 図 1 Α及び 1 Βに示すように、 色材 1の表面に、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 2を固着した状態でインク中に存在してい 品名) によって測定、 算出した値とする。 即ち、 本発明では、 本発明に係る、 水溶性ノニオン性樹脂と分散性色材を含有する水性ィンクジエツト記録用ィ ンクの場合には、 該インクを 8 0, 0 0 0回転、 2時間の条件で遠心分離した 沈降物を乾燥、 秤量し、 窒素雰囲気、 或いは大気中において昇温を行ったとき の、 顔料及び樹脂成分のそれぞれの分解温度前後での質量変化を求め、 B Z P を算出した。 一方、 ェマルジヨンと分散性色材を含有する水性インクジェット 記録用インクの場合には、 該インクを 2 5 , 0 0 0回転、 3時間の条件にて遠 心分離した沈降物を乾燥、 秤量し、 窒素雰囲気、 或いは大気中において昇温を 行ったときの、 顔料及び樹脂成分のそれぞれの分解温度前後での質量変化を求 め、 B Z Pを算出した。
[記録画像]
本発明に係るインクは、 後述するようなインクジエツト記録装置を用いた記 録の際に好適に用いることができる。 この際に使用する記録媒体としては、 ィ ンクジェット記録可能などのような媒体でも制限なく用いることができる。
[画像記録方法及び記録装置]
本発明において使用する分散性色材、 及び該色材を含有する水性ィンクは、 インクジェット吐出方式のヘッドに用いられ、 また、 そのインクを収納したィ ンクタンクとしても、 或いは、 その充填用のインクとしても有効に利用するこ とができる。 特に、 本発明は、 インクジェット記録方式の中でもバブルジエツ ト方式の記録ヘッド、 記録装置において、 優れた効果をもたらす。
その代表的な構成や原理については、 例えば、 米国特許第 4, 7 2 3, 1 2 9 号明細書、 同第 4 , 7 4 0 , 7 9 6号明細書に開示されている基本的な原理を 用いて行うものが好ましい。 この方式は、 所謂オンデマンド型、 コンティニュ ァス型のいずれにも適用可能であるが、 特に、 オンデマンド型の場合には、 ィ ンクが保持されているシートや液路に対応して配置された電気熱変換体に、 記 録情報に対応していて核沸騰を超える急速な温度上昇を与える少なくとも一 る。従って、色材 1は、表面に固着している荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 2を介して、 記録媒体上で、 記録媒体及び隣り合った色材と相互に接着する。 従って、 本発 明の水性インクを用いて得られる印字物は、 優れた耐擦過性を有するものとな 。
更に、 色材として顔料を用いる場合において、 顔料と荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 との割合 (樹脂質量/顔料質量 =B/Pと表す) を、 0. 3以上 4. 0以下の 範囲内となるようにすることも、 色材によって形成される印字物の耐擦過性を 高める上で、 本発明の望ましい実施形態であると言える。 B/P比を 0. 3以 上とすることで、 色材間、 及び色材と記録媒体間との接着性を高め、 印字物に 優れた耐擦過性を付与し得る。 特に、 ガラス転移温度が一 40°C以上 60°C以 下となる樹脂成分を含んで構成される荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子を固着してなる 分散性色材を用いた水性インクにおいては、 その造膜性をより効果的に発現す ることができ、 光沢紙における耐擦過性をより高める結果をもたらす。 BZP が 4. 0より著しく大きい場合には、 全体として粘性の高いインクとなり、 特 にインクジエツ卜記録装置に用いる場合には、 吐出安定性を損なう場合がある。 また、 色材に対して樹脂量が極端に多いために、 記録媒体上で色材の発色性を 妨げ、 印字濃度が充分に得られない場合がある。 BZPの値を上述した 0. 3 以上 4. 0以下の範囲内に制御することによって、 優れた耐擦過性を有し、 ィ ンクジエツト記録装置においては吐出安定性を両立した水性インクとするこ とができる。
ここでいう樹脂質量とは、 本発明に係るインク中に含まれる荷電性樹脂擬似 微粒子の全質量のことであり、 その他に明らかに顔料表面に強く吸着している 樹脂成分についても含まれる場合がある。 ただし、 顔料と容易に分離可能な水 溶性樹脂成分については含まれないものとする。
上述した B.ZPの値は、 一般的には、 示差熱重量分析法によって求めること ができるが、 本発明では、 METTLER社製の TGAZSDTA851 (商 つの駆動信号を印加することによって、 電気熱変換体に熱エネルギーを発生せ しめ、 記録ヘッドの熱作用面に膜沸縢させ、 結果的にこの駆動信号に一対一に 対応してインク内の気泡を形成できるので有効である。 この気泡の成長、 収縮 により吐出用開口を介してインクを吐出させて、 少なくとも一つのインク滴を 形成する。 この駆動信号をパルス形状とすると、 即時適切に気泡の成長収縮が 行われるので、 特に応答性に優れたインクの吐出が達成でき、 より好ましい。 このパルス形状の駆動信号としては、米国特許第 4 , 4 6 3 , 3 5 9号明細書、 同第 4, 3 4 5 , 2 6 2号明細書に記載されているようなものが適している。 尚、 上記熱作用面の温度上昇率に関する発明である米国特許第 4 , 3 1 3, 1 2 4号明細書に記載されている条件を採用すると、 更に優れた記録を行うこと ができる。
記録へッドの構成としては、 上述の各特許明細書に開示されているような吐 出口、 波路、 電気熱変換体の組み合わせ構成 (直線状液流路 は直角液流路) の他に、 熱作用部が屈曲する ·領域に配置されている構成を開示する米国特許第 4 , 5 5 8 , 3 3 3号明細書、 米国特許第 4, 4 5 9 , 6 0 0号明細書を用い た構成にも本発明は有効である。 加えて、 複数の電気熱変換体に対して、 共通 する吐出孔を電気熱変換体の吐出部とする構成 (特開昭 5 9— 1 2 3 6 7 0号 公報等) に対しても、 本発明は有効である。 更に、 記録装置が記録できる最大 記録媒体の幅に対応した長さを有するフルラインタイプの記録へッドとして は、 上述した特許明細書に開示されているような複数記録へッドの組み合わせ によって、 その長さを満たす構成や、 一体的に形成された一個の記録ヘッドと しての構成のいずれも適用できるが、 本発明は、 上述した効果を一層有効に発 揮することができる。
加えて、 装置本体に装着されることで、 装置本体との電気的な接続や装置本 体からのインクの供給が可能になる交換自在のチップタイプの記録へッド、 或 レ ^は記録へッド自体に一体的に設けられたカートリッジタイプの記録へッド を用いた場合にも、 本発明は有効である。 また、 本発明が適用される記録装置 の構成として、 通常設けられる、 記録ヘッドに対しての回復手段、 予備的な補 助手段等を付加することは、 本発明の効果を一層安定できるので好ましいもの である。 これらを具体的に挙げれば、 記録ヘッドに対してのキヤビング手段、 クリーニング手段、 加圧或いは吸引手段、 電気熱変換体、 或いはこれとは別の 加熱素子或いはこれらの組み合わせによる予備加熱手段、 記録とは別の吐出を 行う予備吐出モードである。
[実施例]
次に、 実施例及び比較例を挙げて、 本発明を具体的に説明する。 なお、 下記 実施例は単なる例示のためのものであり、 本発明はこれら実施例により何ら限 定されるものではない。 また、 文中 「部」 又は 「%」 とあるのは特に断りのな い限り質量基準である。
[実施例 1一 1]
本実施例 1一 1にかかる記録ィンク 1— 1を下記の要領で作製した。 先ず、 カーボンブラック 10部、 グリセリン 6部、 スチレン—アクリル酸系樹脂分散 剤 10部、 及び水 74部からなる組成の混合液を、 金田理化工業社製のサンド ミルにて、 1, 500 r pmで 5時間分散し、 顔料分散液 1を得た。 サンドミ ルでは 0. 6mm径のジルコニアビ一ズを使用し、 ポット内の充填率は 70% とした。 本実施例で使用したカーボンブラックは、 米国 Cabo t社より上巿 されている B l a c k Pe a r l s 880 (商品名;以下、 BP 880と 略記する) であり、 スチレン一アクリル酸系樹脂分散剤には、 共重合比 70 : 30、 Mw= 8, 000、 酸価 170のものを使用した。 かかるスチレン—ァ クリル酸系樹脂分散剤は、 予め、 水及び、 上記の酸価と当量の水酸化カリウム を加えて 80°Cにて攪拌し、 水溶液としたものを使用した。 得られた顔料分散 液 1一 1は、 平均分散粒径 98 nmで安定に分散されており、 多分散度指数は 0. 16であった。 次に、上記で得た顔料分散液 1一 1を 100部として、窒素雰囲気下、 70 °C に加熱した状態で、 モーターで攪拌しながら下記の 3つの液を夫々に滴下装置 に充填し 6時間で滴下して加え重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) メ夕クリル酸メ チル 5. 5部、 (2) アクリル酸 0. 5部、 水酸化カリウム 0. 25部と水 2 0部、 (3) 過硫酸カリウム 0. 05部と水 20部からなる。
得られた分散液を水にて 10倍に希釈し、 5, 000 r pmにて 10分間遠 心分離を行って凝集成分を除去した。 その後、 更に 12, 500 r pm、 2時 間の条件で遠心分離することにより精製して、 沈降物である分散性色材 1一 1 を得た。
この分散性色材 1一 1を水に分散し、 12, 000回転、 60分間の遠心分 離を行って沈降物を水に再分散させたものを乾燥させ、 走査型電子顕微鏡 J S M- 6700 (商品名; 日本電子ハイテック (株) 製) にて 5万倍で観察した ところ、 色材である力一ボンブラックより小さい荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子がカー ボンブラックの表面に固着している状態が観察された。 尚、 本実施例において 後述する他の色材についても、 上記と同様の手法で、 分散性色材の形態を確認 した。
上記のようにして得た分散性色材 1一 1力 インク中に 4%濃度で含まれる ようにして、 これに、 下記の成分組成を混合し、 更に、 ポアサイズが 2. 5ミ クロンのメンブレンフィルタ一にて加圧ろ過し、 本実施例の記録用インク 1一 1を調製した。 尚、 インクの全量が 100部となるように水で調整した。

実施例 1一 1で得た顔料分散液 1一 1を 100部用い、 窒素雰囲気下、 7 0°Cに加熱した状態で、 モータ一で攪拌しながら下記のの 3つの液を夫々滴下 装置に充填し 6時間で滴下して加え、 重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) メタクリ ル酸べンジル 4. 5、 アクリル酸ブチル 1. 2部、 (2) アクリル酸 3部、 水酸化カリウム 0. 15部及び水 20部、 (3) 過硫酸カリウム 0. 05部と 水 20部からなる。
得られた分散液を水で 10倍に希釈し、 5, 000 r p mで 10分間遠心分 離を行って凝集成分を除去した後、 更に、 12, 500 r pm、 2時間の条件 で遠心分離することにより精製し、 沈降物である分散性色材 1一 2を得た。 上記で得た分散性色材 1 -2 、 インク中に 4 %濃度で含まれるようにして、 これに、 下記の成分組成を混合し、 更に、 ポアサイズが 2. 5ミクロンのメン プレンフィルターで加圧ろ過し、 本実施例の記録用インク 1—2を調製した。 尚、 インクの全量が 100部となるように水で調整した。

本実施例にかかる記録インク 1一 3を下記の要領で作製した。 先ず、 色材と してピグメントレッド (PR) 122 (チバ ·スぺシャリティ 'ケミカルズ社 製 CROMOPHTAL MAZENTA DMQ (商品名)) を 10部、 グリセリン 6部、 スチレン一アクリル酸系分散剤 10部、 水 74部からなる組 成を有する混合液を、 金田理化工業社製のサンドミルで 1, 500 r pm、 5 時間分散し、 顔料分散液 5を得た。 サンドミルでは 0. 6mm径のジルコニァ ビーズを使用し、 ポット内の充填率は 70%とした。 分散剤としてのスチレン —ァクリル樹脂は、 共重合比 70 : 30、 Mw=8, 000、 酸価 170のも のを使用した。 得られた顔料分散液 1一 3は平均分散粒径 88 nmで安定に分 散されており、 多分散度指数は 0. 13であった。
次に、 上記顔料分散液 1一 3を 100部用い、 窒素雰囲気下、 70°Cに加熱 した状態で、 モ一夕一で攪拌しながら下記の 3つの液を夫々滴下装置に充填し 6時間で滴下して加え、 重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) スチレン 5. 7部、 (2) アクリル酸 0. 3部、 水酸化カリウム 0. 15部及び水 20部 (3) VA05 7 (商品名、 和光純薬 (.株) 製、 2, 2' —ァゾビス (N— (2 _カルボキシ ェチル) アミジノプロパン)) を 0. 05部と水 20部からなる。
得られた分散液を水で 10倍に希釈し、 5, 000 r pmで 10分間遠心分離 を行って凝集成分を除去した後、 更に、 12, 500 r pm、 2時間の条件で 遠心分離することにより、 沈降物である分散性色材 1一 3を得た。
上記で得た分散性色材 1一 3が、 インク中に 4 %濃度で含まれるようにして、 これに、 下記の成分組成を混合し、 更に、 ポアサイズが 2. 5ミクロンのメン プレンフィルタ一にて加圧ろ過し、 本実施例の記録用ィンク 1— 3を調製した。 尚、 インクの全量が 100部となるように水で調整した。

本実施例にかかる記録ィンク 1— 4を下記の要領で作製した。 先ず、 色材と して FAST YELLOW7413 (商品名) (ビグメントイエロー 74 ; 山陽色素社製) を 10部、 グリセリン 6部、 スチレン—アクリル酸ジメチルァ ミノェチル系分散剤 10部、 水 74部からなる組成を有する混合液を、 金田理 化工業社製のサンドミルで 1, 500 r pm、 5時間分散し、 顔料分散液 1一 4を得た。 サンドミルでは 0. 6mm径のジルコニァビーズを使用し、 ポット 内の充填率は 70%とした。 分散剤としてのスチレン一アクリル樹脂ジメチル アミノエチル共重合カチオン性分散樹脂は、 共重合比 70 : 30、 Mw=S, 000、 アミン価 170のものを使用した。 該分散樹脂は、 予め、 水及びアミ ン価よりもやや過剰な酢酸を加えて 80°Cにて攪拌し、 水溶液としたものを使 用した。 得られた顔料分散液 1—4は平均分散粒径 11 1 nmで安定に分散さ れており、 多分散度指数は 0. 16であった。
次に、 上記顔料分散液 1一 4を 100部用い、 窒素雰囲気下、 70°Cに加熱 した状態で、 モーターで攪拌しながら下記の 3つの液を夫々に滴下装置に充填 し 6時間で滴下して加え、 重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) メタクリル酸べンジ ル 4. 2部、 (2)アクリル酸ジメチルアミノエチル 1. 8部及び水 20部、(3) 過硫酸カリウム 0. 05部と水 20部からなる。
得られた分散液を水にて 10倍に希釈し、 5, 000 r pmにて 10分間遠 心分離を行って凝集成分を除去した後、 更に、 12, 500 r pm、 2時間の 条件で遠心分離することにより、 沈降物である分散性色材 1一 4を得た。
上記で得た分散性色材 1一 4が、 インク中に 4%濃度で含まれるようにして、 これに、 下記の成分組成を混合し、 更に、 ポアサイズが 2. ' 5ミクロンのメン プレンフィルタ一にて加圧ろ過し、 本実施例の記録用インク 1—4を調製した。 尚、 インクの全量が 100部となるように水で調整した。

上記の各実施例 1一 1〜 1 _ 4で得た各分散性色材について、 それぞれ下記 に説明した方法で観察、 及び各種の物性を測定した。 なお、 荷電性樹脂擬似微 粒子のガラス転移温度 (Tg) は、 以下の手順により測定した。 分散性色材を 塩酸により酸析させ、 酸祈した固形分を THF (テ卜ラヒドロフラン) を用い てソックスレー抽出し、 THFを留去することで荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子成分を得 た。 更に、 得られた荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子成分の Tgを示差走査熱分析 (ME T T L E R社製、 D S C 8 2 2 e ) 装置により測定した。 分散性色材と水溶性 ノニオン性樹脂ゃェマルジョンが共存する水分散液の場合には、 遠心分離装置 を用いて分離することができる。 得られた結果を表 1 _ 1に示した。
<樹脂微粒子の固着性 >
各分散性色材を水に分散して乾燥させ、 走査型電子顕微鏡 J S M - 6 7 0 0 (商品名; 日本電子ハイテック (株) 製) を用いて 5万倍で観察し、 色材に樹 脂微粒子が固着している状態、 及び固着している樹脂微粒子の性状を下記のよ うに評価した。
〇:樹脂微粒子が固着している様子が確認できた。
X :樹脂微粒子が固着している様子が確認できなかった。
ぐ分散安定性 >
各分散性色材の 5 0水分散液を純水で 1 0倍に希釈し、 分画分子量 5 0 , 0 0 0の限外ろ過フィルターを用いて元の濃度になるまで濃縮し、 濃縮液を遠心 分離装置を用いて 1 2 , ..0 0 0回転、 2時間の条件で分離した。 分離された沈 降物を取り出して純水に再分散させ、 目で見て均一に分散していること、 及び 後述する動的光散乱法にて測定した平均粒径が操作前の粒径の 2倍以内であ ることという条件を満たすか否かを確認し、 下記のように評価した。

<長期保存安定性〉
長期保存安定性は、 ガラス製のサンプル瓶中に各分散性色材を分散水溶液の 状態で入れ、 密閉状態で 6 0 °Cにおいて 1ヶ月放置した後における分散状態を 目視で判断した。 評価基準は以下の通りである。
〇:固形分の凝集 ·沈降がみられない。
△:固形分の沈降がややみられるが、 軽く振ると元の均一な分散状態に戻る。 X :固形分の凝集 ·沈降がみられ、 軽く振っても均一にならない。 <平均粒子径>
各分散性色材を、 大塚電子 (株) 製、 ELS— 8000 (商品名) を用いて 動的光散乱法にて測定し、 キュムラント平均値を平均粒径とした。
<表面官能基密度 >
各分散性色材の表面官能基密度を次のように求めた。 色材の水分散液に大過 剰量の塩酸 (HC 1) を加え、 遠心分離装置を用いて 20, 000 r pm、 1 時間の条件で沈降したものを純水に再分散させ、 固形分率を求めて沈降物を秤 量し、 既知量の炭酸水素ナトリウムを加えて攪拌した分散液を、 更に遠心分離 装置を用いて 80, 000 r pm, 2時間の条件で沈降させた。 上澄みを秤量 し、 0. 1規定の HC 1水溶液にて中和滴定より求めた中和量から、 炭酸水素 ナトリウムの既知量及び純水を測定したブランク値を差し引き、 表面官能基密 度を算出した。

[水性ィンクジエツト記録用ィンクの評価方法及び評価結果]
上述した方法で得た各記録用インクを用いてインクジエツト記録装置によ る光沢性記録媒体への印字を行って、 得られた画像について評価した。 インク ジエツト記録装置としては、キャノン(株)から上巿される B J S 6 0 .0 (商 品名) を使用し、 記録媒体としてはキャノン (株) から上巿されるインクジェ ット記録用光沢紙 P R— 1 0 1 (商品名) を使用した。 この光沢紙上に、 5 c m角のベ夕パッチを印字し、光沢性、耐擦過性(定着性)について評価を行い、 'その結果を表 1一 2に示した。 <光沢性 >
印字物の光沢性は、 maicrohazemater (商品名; BYK Gardner社)を用いて測定 し、 下記の基準で評価した
A: G L O S S値 (20° 光沢性) が、 50以上
B : G L O S S値 (20° 光沢性) が、 40以上 50未満
C : G L〇 S S値 (20° 光沢性) が、 30以上 40未満
D : G L O S S値 (20 光沢性) が、 20以上 30未満
<耐擦過性 (定着性) >
印字物の耐擦過性は、 印字部分を 40 g,''cm2の重さをかけたシルボン紙 で 3回擦り、 画像部分の削れ度合いを目視で観察し、 下記の基準で評価した。 A:画像の削れがあるが、 印字部分の 90 以上は残存している。
B :画像の削れがあるが、 印字部分の 70%以上は残存している。
C :画像が大きく削れてしまう。

<分散性色材の調整 >
[分散性色材 2— 1 ]
先ず、 ビグメントブルー (PB) 15 : 3 (チバ 'スぺシャリティ 'ケミカ ルズ社製 I R I GAL I TE BLUE 8700 (商品名))、 グリセリン 6部、 スチレン一アクリル酸系樹脂分散剤 10部、 及び水 74部からなる組成 の混合液を、 金田理化工業社製のサンドミルを用いて、 1, 500 r pmで 5 時間分散し、 顔料分散液 2— 1を得た。 サンドミルでは 0. 6mm径のジルコ ニァビーズを使用し、 ポット内の充填率は 70%'とした。 スチレン—アクリル 酸系樹脂分散剤には、 共重合比 70 : 30、 Mw= 8, 000、 酸価 170の ものを使用した。かかるスチレン—ァクリル酸系樹脂分散剤は、予め、水及び、 上記の酸価と当量の水酸化カリウムを加えて 80°Cにて攪拌し、 水溶液とした ものを使用した。 得られた顔料分散液 2— 1は、 平均分散粒径 1 1 O nmで安 定に分散されており、 多分散度指数は 0. 16であった。
次に、上記で得た顔料分散液 2— 1を 100部として、窒素雰囲気下、 70°C に加熱した状態で、 モータ一で攪拌しながら下記の 3つの液を夫々に滴下装置 に充填し 6時間で滴下して加え重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) メ夕クリル酸メ チル 5. 5部、 (2) アクリル酸 0. 5部、 水酸化カリウム 0. 25部と水 2 0部、 (3) 過硫酸カリウム 0. 05部と水 20部からなる。
得られた分散液を水で 10倍に希釈し、 5, 000 r pmにおいて 10分間遠 心分離を行って凝集成分を除去した。 その後、 更に 12, 500 r pm、 2時 間の条件で遠心分離することにより精製して、 沈降物である分散性色材 2— 1 を得た。
この分散性色材 2 _ 1を水に分散し、 12, 000回転、 60分間の遠心分 離を行って沈降物を水に再分散させたものを乾燥させ、 走査型電子顕微鏡 J S M- 6700 (商品名; 日本電子ハイテック (株) 製) を用いて 5万倍で観察 したところ、 色材であるカーボンブラッグよりも小さい荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子 が力一ボンブラックの表面に固着している状態が観察された。 尚、 本実施例に おいて後述する他の色材についても、 上記と同様の手法で、 色材の形態を確認 した。
[分散性色材 2— 2 ]
上記で得た顔料分散液 2— 1を 100部用い、 窒素雰囲気下、 70°Cに加熱 した状態で、 モー夕一で攪拌しながら下記のの 3つの液を夫々滴下装置に充填 し 6時間で滴下して加え、 重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) メ夕クリル酸べンジ ル 4. 5、 アクリル酸ブチル 1. 2部、 (2) アクリル酸 0. 3部、 水酸化力 リウム 0. 1 5部及び水 20部、 (3) 過硫酸カリウム 0. 05部と水 20部 からなる。
得られた分散液を水で 10倍に希釈し、 5, 000 r pmにおいて 10分間 遠心分離を行って凝集成分を除去した後、 更に、 1 2, 500 r pm、 2時間 の条件で遠心分離することにより、 沈降物である分散性色材 2— 2を得た。
[分散性色材 2— 3 ]
上記で得た顔料分散液 2— 1を 100部用い、 窒素雰囲気下、 70 に加熱 した状態で、 モーターで攪拌しながら下記の 3つの液を夫々滴下装置に充填し 6時間で滴下して加え、 重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) メタクリル酸べンジル 5. 0部、 アクリル酸ブチル 0. 7部、 (2) アクリル酸 0. 3部、 水酸化力 リウム 0. 1 5部及び水 20部 (3) 過硫酸カリウム 0. 05部と水 20部か らなる。
得られた分散液を水で 10倍に希釈し、 5, 000 r pmにおいて 1 0分間 遠心分離を行って凝集成分を除去した後、 更に、 1 2, 500 r pm、 2時間 の条件で遠心分離することにより、 沈降物である分散性色材 2— 3を得た。
[分散性色材 2— 4 ]
上記で得た顔料分散液 2— 1を 100部用い、 窒素雰囲気下、 70°Cに加熱 した状態で、 モ一夕一で攪拌しながら下記の 3つの液を夫々に滴下装置に充填 し 6時間で滴下して加え、 重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) アクリル酸プチル. 5. 0部、 メ夕クリル酸べンジル 0. 7部、 (2) アクリル酸ジメチルァミノ ェチル 1. 8部及び水 20部、 (3) 過硫酸カリウム 0. 05部と水 20部か らなる。
得られた分散液を水で 10倍に希釈し、 5, 000 r pmにおいて 10分間 遠心分離を行って凝集成分を除去した後、 更に、 12, 500 r pm, 2時間 の条件で遠心分離することにより、 沈降物である分散性色材 2— 4を得た。
[分散性色材 2— 5 ]
上記で得た顔料分散液 2 _ 1を 100部用い、 窒素雰囲気下、 70°Cに加熱 した状態で、 モータ一で攪拌しながら下記の 3つの液を夫々に滴下装置に充填 し 6時間で滴下して加え、 重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) アクリル酸プチル. 5. 7部、 (2) アクリル酸ジメチルアミノエチル 1. 8部及び水 20部、 (3) 過硫酸カリウム 0. 05部と水 20部からなる。

[ェマルジョン粒子 1]
ェマルジヨン粒子 1を下記の要領で作成した。 窒素雰囲気下で前記したスチ レン一アクリル酸系樹脂分散剤 2%水溶液を 100部として、 70°Cに加熱し た状態において、 モーターで攪拌しながら下記の 3つの液を夫々に滴下装置に 充填し、 6時間で滴下して加え重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) メタクリル酸メ チル 5. 5部、 (2) アクリル酸 0. 5部、 水酸化カリウム 0. 25部及び水 20部、 (3) 過硫酸カリウム 0. 05部及び水 20部からなる。
得られた分散液を 80, 000 r pm、 2時間の条件で遠心分離することに より精製して、 沈降物であるェマルジヨン粒子 1を得た。 ェマルジヨン粒子 1 は、 平均分散粒径 20 nmであった。
[ェマルジョン粒子 2]
メタクリル酸メチル 5. 5部に代えて、 メタクリル酸べンジル 4. 5部、 ァ クリル酸ブチル 1. 0部を用いた以外はェマルジヨン粒子 1の調製と同様に行 い、 ェマルジヨン粒子 2を得た。
[ェマルジョン粒子 3]
メタクリル酸メチル 5. 5部に代えて、 メ夕クリル酸べンジル 0. 7部、 ァ クリル酸ブチル 4. 8部を用いた以外はェマルジヨン 1の調製と同様に行い、 ェマルジョン粒子 3を得た。
[ェマルジヨン粒子 4]
メタクリル酸メチル 5. 5部に代えて、 メタクリル酸べンジル 5. 0部、 ァ クリル酸ブチル 0. 5部を用いた以外はェマルジョン 1の調製と同様に行い、 ェマルジョン粒子 4を得た。
[ェマルジヨン粒子 5]
メタクリル酸メチル 5. 5部に代えて、 アクリル酸ブチル 5. 5部を用いた 以外はェマルジョン 1の調製と同様に行い、 ェマルジョン粒子 5を得た。
[ェマルジヨン粒子 6及び 7] .
窒素雰囲気下で純水 100部を 70°Cに加熱した状態において、 モーターで 攪拌しながら下記の 3つの液を夫々に滴下装置に充填し 6時間で滴下して加 え重合を行った。 該液は、 (1) メタクリル酸べンジル 4. 5部、 アクリル酸 ブチル 1部、 ( 2 ) ァクリル酸 0. 5部、 水酸化力リウム 0. 25部及び水 2 0部、 (3) 過硫酸カリウム 0. 05部及び水 20部からなる。
得られた分散液を遠心分離により分級し、 ェマルジヨン粒子 6、 ェマルジョ ン粒子 7を得た。 ェマルジョン粒子 6の平均分散粒径は 80 nm、 ェマルジョ ン粒子 7の平均粒径は 12 O nmであった。 [ェマルジヨン粒子 8]
ェマルジヨン粒子 8を下記の要領で作成した。 窒素雰囲気下で前記したスチ レン一アクリル酸ジメチルアミノエチル酸系樹脂分散剤 2%水溶液を 100 部として、 7 (TCに加熱した状態において、 モー夕一で攪拌しながら下記の 3 つの液を夫々に滴下装置に充填し 6時間で滴下して加え重合を行つた。 該液は、 (1) アクリル酸プチル. 4. 5部、 メタクリル酸べンジル 1. 2部、 (2) アクリル酸ジメチルアミノエチル 1. 8部及び水 20部、 (3) 過硫酸力リウ ム 0. 05部と水 20部からなる
得られた分散液を 80, 000 r pm、 2時間の条件で遠心分離することに より精製して、 沈降物であるェマルジヨン粒子 8を得た。 ェマルジヨン粒子 8 は、 平均分散粒径 60 nmであった。
[実施例 2— 1 ]
実施例 2一 1にかかる記録ィンク 2— 1を下記の要領で作製した。 分散性色 材 2_2がインク中に 4¾濃度で含まれるようにして、 これに、 下記の成分組 成を混合し、 更に、 ポアサイズが 2. 5ミクロンのメンブレンフィル夕一にて 加圧ろ過し、 本実施例の記録インク 2— 1を調製した。
グリセリン 7部 ジエチレングリコール 5部 トリメチロールプロパン 5部 ·ァセチレノール EH (商品名:川研ファインケミカル社製) 0. 25部 ェマルジヨン粒子 1 4部 イオン交換水 残部 (全体が 100部になる量)
[実施例 2— 2 ]
ェマルジヨン粒子 1に代えて、 ェマルジヨン粒子 2を用いた以外は、 実施例 1と同様に行い、 記録インク 2— 2を調整した。
[実施例 2— 3] ェマルジヨン粒子 1に代えて、 ェマルジヨン粒子 3を用いた以外は、 実施例 1と同様に行い、 記録インク 2— 3を調整した。
[実施例 2— 4 ]
ェマルジヨン粒子 1に代えて、 ェマルジヨン粒子 4を用いた以外は、 実施例 1と同様に行い、 記録インク 2— 4を調整した。
[実施例 2— 5 ]
ェマルジヨン粒子 1に代えて、 ェマルジヨン粒子 5を用いた以外は、 実施例 1と同様に行い、 記録ィンク 2— 5を調整した。
[実施例 2— 6 ]
4部のェマルジヨン粒子 1に代えて、 ェマルジヨン粒子 2を 0 . 2部用いた 以外は、 実施例 1と同様に行い、 記録インク 2 6を調整した。
[実施例 2— 7 ]
4部のェマルジヨン粒子 1に代えて、 ェマルジヨン粒子 6を 0 . 2部用いた以 外は、 実施例 1と同様に行い、 記録インク 2— 7を調整した。

分散性色材 2— 2に代えて、 分散性色材 2 — 1を用いた以外は、 実施例 2— 6と同様に行い、 記録ィンク 2— 1 0を調整した。

分散性色材 2— 2に代えて、 分散性色材 2— 3を用いた以外は、 実施例 2一 6と同様に行い、 記録ィンク 2— 1 1を調整した。
[実施例 2— 12]
分散性色材 2— 2に代えて、 分散性色材 2— 4を用いた以外は、 実施例 2— 6と同様に行い、 記録ィンク 2— 12を調整した。
[比較例 2— 1]
分散性色材 2— 1が、 インク中に 4%濃度で含まれるようにして、 これに、 下記の成分組成を混合し、 更に、 ポアサイズが 2. 5ミクロンのメンブレンフ ィルターにて加圧ろ過し、 本比較例の記録インクを調製した。
グリセリン 7部 ジエチレングリコール 5部 トリメチロールプロパン 5部 ァセチレノール EH (商品名:川研ファインケミカル社製) 0. 25部 イオン交換水 残部 (全体が 100部になる量)、
《分散性色材の特性》
各分散性色材について、 それぞれ下記に説明した方法で観察を行い、 さらに 各種の物性を測定し、 荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子のガラス転移温度 (Tg) につい ては、 以下の手)横により測定した。 分散性色材を塩酸により酸析させ、 酸祈し た固形分を THF (テトラヒドロフラン) を用いてソックスレー抽出し、 THF を留去することで荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子成分を得た。 更に、 得られた荷電性樹 脂擬似微粒子成分の Tgを示差走査熱分析 (METTLER社製、 DSC82 2 e) 装置により測定した。 分散性色材と水溶性ノニオン性樹脂ゃェマルジョ ンが共存する水分散液の場合には、 遠心分離装置を用いて分離することができ る。 得られた結果を表 2— 1に示す。
<樹脂微粒子の固着性 >
各分散性色材を水に分散して乾燥させ、 走査型電子顕微鏡 J SM- 6700 (商品名; 日本電子ハイテック (株) 製) を用いて 5万倍で観察し、 色材に樹 脂微粒子が固着している状態、 及び固着している樹脂微粒子の性状を下記のよ うに評価した。
(樹脂微粒子の固着状態)
〇:樹脂微粒子が固着している様子が確認できた。
X :樹脂微粒子が固着している様子が確認できなかった。
<分散安定性〉
各分散性色材の 5 %水分散液を純水で 1 0倍に希釈し、 分画分子量 5 0 , 0
0 0の限外ろ過フィル夕一を用いて元の濃度になるまで濃縮し、 濃縮液を遠心 分離装置を用いて 1 2 , 0 0 0回転、 2時間の条件で分離した。 分離された沈 降物を取り出して純水に再分散させ、 目で見て均一に分散していること、 及び 後述する動的光散乱法にて測定した平均粒径が操作前の粒径の 2倍以内であ ることという条件を満たすか否かを確認し、 下記のように評価した。
〇:条件を満たしたもの。
X :条件を満たさなかったもの。
<長期保存安定性 >
長期保存安定性は、 ガラス製のサンプル瓶中に各分散性色材を分散水溶液の 状態で入れ、 密閉状態で 6 0 °Cにおいて 1ヶ月放置した後における分散状態を 目視で判断した。 評価基準は以下のとおりである。 .
〇:固形分の凝集 ·沈降がみられない。
△:固形分の沈降がややみられるが、 軽く振ると元の均一な分散状態に戻る。
X :固形分の凝集 ·沈降がみられ、 軽く振っても均一にならない。
<平均粒子径>
各分散性色材及びェマルジヨン粒子を、 大塚電子 (株) 製、 E L S— 8 0 0 0 (商品名) を用いて動的光散乱法にて測定し、 キュムラント平均値を平均粒 径とした。
<表面官能基密度〉 各分散性色材の表面官能基密度を次のように求めた。 色材の水分散液に大過 剰量の塩酸 (HC 1) を加え、 遠心分離装置を用いて 20, 000 r pm、 1 時間の条件で沈降したものを純水に再分散させ、 固形分率を求めて沈降物を抨 量し、 既知量の炭酸水素ナトリウムを加えて攪拌した分散液を、 更に遠心分離 装置を用いて 80, 000 r pm、 2時間の条件で沈降させた。 上澄みを秤量 し、 0. 1規定の塩酸水溶液を用いた中和滴定より求めた中和量から、 炭酸水 素ナトリゥムの既知量及び純水を測定したブランク値を差し引き、 表面官能基 密度を算出した。 アミン価を有する場合は、 炭酸水素ナトリウム及び 0. 1N 塩酸水溶液の代わりに、 既知量の塩酸水溶液及び 0. 1 N水酸化力リゥム水溶 液を用いて算出できる。

上記で得られた各ェマルジヨン粒子について、 粒度測定器 (大塚電子社製
FPAR 1 0 0 0 (商品名)) により、 平均粒径を測定した。 また、 ェマルジヨン 粒子のガラス転移温度は、 得られたェマルジヨン水分散液を蒸発乾固したもの を示差走査熱分析 (M E T T L E R社製 D S C 8 2 2 e (商品名)) により 測定した。 その結果を表 2 _ 2に示す。

[水性ィンクジェット記録ィンクの評価方法及び評価結果]
上述した方法で得た各実施例及び比較例の各記録インクを用い、 インクジェ ット記録装置による光沢性記録媒体への印字を行って、 得られた画像について 評価した。 使用したインクジェット記録装置としては、 キャノン (株) から上 巿される B J S 6 0 0 (商品名) を使用し、 記録媒体としてはキャノン (株) から上巿されるインクジェット記録用光沢紙 P R— 1 0 1 (商品名) を使用し た。 光沢紙上に、 5 c m角のベ夕パッチを印字し、 光沢性、 耐擦過性 (定着性) について評価を行い、 その結果を表 2— 3〜 2— 5に示した。 <光沢性>
印字物の光沢性は、 maicrohazemater (商品名; BYK Gardner社)を用いて測定 し、 下記の基準で評価した。
A: GLOS S値 (20° 光沢性) が、 50以上。
B : GLOS S値 (20° 光沢性) が、 40以上 50未満。
C : GLOS S値 (20° 光沢性) が、 30以上 40未満。
D : GLOS S値 (20° 光沢性) 力、 20以上 30未満。
<耐擦過性 (定着性) >
印字物の耐擦過性は、印字部分を 40 g/'cm2の重さをかけたシルボン紙で 3回擦り、 画像部分の削れ度合いを目視で観察し、 下記の基準で評価した。 A:画像の削れがあるが、 印字部分の 90 %以上は残存している。
B :画像の削れがあるが、 印字部分の 70%以上 90%未満は残存している。 C :画像が大きく削れてしまう。 (70%未満残存)

上記の結果から明らかなように、 ェマルジヨンを分散性色材に添加した水 性インクを用いることで、 光沢性や擦過性が向上した。 さらには、 ガラス転 移温度が— 4 0 °C〜6 0 °Cの範囲内にあるェマルジヨン、 あるいは平均粒径 が 1 0 n m〜8 0 n mの範囲内にあるェマルジョン粒子を用いることで、 光 沢性及び擦過性の少なくとも一方がさらに向上した。 産業上の利用可能性
本発明によれば、 分散安定性が高く、 長期分散安定性に優れた、 耐擦過性等の 堅牢性に優れた画像が得られ、 特に、 光沢性の高い画像が得られるインクジェ ット記録用として好適な水性インクが提供される。 また、 本発明によれば、 斯 かる優れた水性インクを利用したインクタンク、 インクジェット記録装置、 ィ ンクジエツト記録方法、 インクジエツト記録画像が提供される。
この出願は 2 0 0 4年 6月 2 5日に出願された日本国特許出願番号第 2 0 0 4 - 1 8 9 0 3 3 , 及び 2 0 0 4年 6月 2 8日に出願された日本国特許出願番 号第 2 0 0 4— 1 9 0 2 8, 7からの優先権を主張するものであり、 その内容を 引用してこの出願の一部とするものである。

Claims

1. 色材と該色材より小さい荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子とを有する分散性色材であ つて、 該色材と該荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子とが固着している分散性色材と、 水溶 性ノニオン性樹脂及びェマルジヨン粒子の少なくとも一方とを含んでいるこ とを特徴とする水性インク。

2. 前記分散性色材が、 250 mo 1 Zg以上 1000 ^mo 1 Zg未満の 表面官能基密度を有する請求項 1に記載の水性ィンク。
3. 前記荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子が、 一 40°C以上 60°C以下のガラス転移温度 を有する樹脂成分を含んでいる請求項 1又は 2に記載の水性ィンク。
4. 前記分散性色材が、 水不溶性色材を分散させた水溶液中における、 水性ラ ジカル重合開始剤を用いた、 ラジカル重合性モノマーの水系析出重合で生成す る荷電性樹脂擬似微粒子と該水不溶性色材とが一体化することにより製造さ れたものである請求項 1〜 3の何れか一項に記載の水性ィンク。
5. 前記水溶性ノニオン性樹脂が、 2, 000〜 10, 000の重量平均分子 量 Mwを有する請求項 1〜4の何れか一項に記載の水性ィンク。
6. 前記水溶性ノニオン性樹脂を 1質量%以上含有している請求項 1〜 5の何 れか一項に記載の水性ィンク。
7. 前記ェマルジヨン粒子が、 前記荷電性樹脂擬 ί以微粒子と電気的に同質であ るか、 又はノニオン性である請求項 1〜4の何れか一項に記載の水性インク。
8. 前記ェマルジョン粒子が、 10〜 80 nmの平均粒径を有する請請求項 1 〜 4及び 7のいずれか一項に記載の水性インク。
9. 前記ェマルジヨン粒子を 0. 1質量%以上含有している請求項 1〜4、 7 及び 8の何れか一項に記載の水性ィンク
10.前記ェマルジヨン粒子が、一 40°C以上 60°C以下のガラス転移温度(T g ) を有する請求項 1〜 4及び 7〜 9の何れか一項に記載の水性ィンク。
1 1. インクジエツト記録用である請求項 1〜 10の何れか一項に記載の水 性ィンク。
12. 請求項 11に記載の水性インクを含んでなることを特徴とするインク夕 ンク。
13. 請求項 1 1に記載の水性インクを用いて、 インクジェット記録画像を形 成することを特徴とするインクジェット記録装置。
14. 請求項 1 1に記載の水性インクを用いて、 インクジェット記録装置によ り画像を形成することを特徴とするインクジェット記録方法。
15. 請求項 1 1に記載の水性インクを用いて、 インクジェット記録装置によ り形成されることを特徴とするィンクジェット記録画像。
