Abstract

Optical fiber interfaces (10), apparatuses including the optical fiber interfaces (10), and methods for manufacturing the optical fiber interfaces (10). Optical fiber interfaces (10) comprise a cup piece (710) and a base piece (720). The cup piece (710) includes an open first end for receiving an optical fiber end, and a second end includes an aligning protrusion (710c). The base piece (720) includes a top surface with an aligning cavity (720c) and an active optical device (300) coupled to the base piece (720). The cup piece (710) may be attached to the base piece (720). The base piece (720) may be part of an outer housing portion of a transceiver or other optical component. The base piece (720) may include a molded-in optical fiber interface and the cup piece (710) may include a clearance cavity (711). A method for making the optical fiber includes locating the center of the active optical device (300) and manufacturing the aligning cavity (720c) into the top surface of the base piece (720).
