Abstract

The invention relates to a data processing system, a method, and a computer program product for configuring a variant of a technical product. At least one subsystem specification (120.1) is predefined for each subsystem of a computer-accessible parts list (16) of the product while at least one subassembly specification (140.1) is predefined for each subassembly. Each subsystem specification (120.1) refers to subassembly specifications (140.1) of the subassemblies of the subsystem. The generated configuration lists the subassembly variants (240.1) of which the product is composed. Once a subsystem specification (120.1) has been selected, only the subassembly specifications (140.1) of said selected subsystem specification (120.1) can be selected. Once a subassembly specification (140.1) has been selected, only the subassembly variants (240.1) allocated to said selected subassembly specification (140.1) can be selected.
