Abstract

This invention relates to pharmaceutical and cosmetic compositions containing colostrum, tocopherols, zinc oxide and hyaluronic acid for the treatment of skin disorders, sores, burns, rashes and the like.

Description

PHARMACEUTICAL AND COSMETIC COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING COLOSTRUM, TOCOPHEROLS, ZINC OXIDE AND HYALURONIC ACID
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to pharmaceutical and cosmetic compositions containing colostrum, tocopherols, zinc oxide and hyaluronic acid for the treatment of skin disorders, sores, burns, diabetic lesions, rashes and the like. PRIOR ART
Colostrum is known to have properties useful for the treatment of skin diseases such as acne, seborrhoeic dermatitis, irritations, dyskeratosis and the like (see, for example, IT 1265252 and IT 1264637).
The tocopherols are known for their cell antioxidant action. Zinc oxide is widely used in dermatological formulations for its protective, astringent and antiseptic activity.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural mucopolysaccharide polymer with high viscosity and a molecular weight ranging between 50,000 and 8xlO6, obtainable from animal tissues or micro-organisms. Hyaluronic acid and its salts have long been used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations for their viscosity-controlling, healing, reparatory and protective properties. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to pharmaceutical and cosmetic compositions containing: a) colostrum; b) tocopherols; c) zinc oxide; d) hyaluronic acid or its salts; for the treatment of dermatological disorders, sores, burns, diabetic lesions, rashes and the like.
The compositions according to the invention have an anti-irritant, emollient, soothing, decongestant, healing, sun filtering and sebum- normalising action, and repair the damage caused by sunlight, physical and chemical agents and atmospheric agents.
The compositions according to the invention are therefore useful for the treatment of skin diseases such as seborrhoeic dermatitis and alopecia, sores, burns, rashes, diabetic lesions and the like.
It has now surprisingly been found that a combination of the constituents of the compositions according to the invention produces far superior effects to the separate administration of each individual component, probably due to a synergic action between said constituents.
According to the invention, the colostrum will be obtained from mammals such as cattle, horses and sheep. According to a preferred aspect of the invention, the colostrum will be of bovine origin.
According to a preferred aspect of the invention, the tocopherols will be chosen from vitamin E and vitamin E acetate.
According to a preferred aspect of the invention, the colostrum content of the compositions according to the invention will range between approximately 10 and 20% in weight of the composition.
According to a preferred aspect of the invention, the tocopherol content of the compositions according to the invention will range between approximately 0.1 and 2% in weight of the composition.
According to a preferred aspect of the invention, the zinc oxide content of the compositions according to the invention will range between approximately 10 and 20% in weight of the composition.
Hyaluronic acid or its salts, preferably sodium hyaluronan, will be present in concentrations ranging between approximately 0.5 and 0.8% in weight. The compositions according to the invention can be formulated in a way suitable for topical administration, and will be prepared according to conventional methods well known in pharmaceutical technology, such as those described in "Remington's Pharmaceutical Handbook", Mack Publishing Co., N. Y., USA, using excipients and diluents conventionally employed in the preparation of pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations, such as thickeners, emulsifiers, detergents, surfactants, preservatives, perfumes, etc..
Examples of formulations according to the invention are ointments, creams, lotions, gels, tonic lotions, emulsions, foams, milks, dusting powders, occlusive plasters with Hydrogel, and the like.
Moreover, the compositions according to the invention may contain other active constituents with a complementary or otherwise useful activity, such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, moisturising, emollient, healing and repair agents, and plant extracts such as Edera helix, Centella asiatica, borage, calendula, sage, rosemary, vegetable oils, pineapple, seaweed, papaya, bilberry, sweet chestnut, red vine, mallow, elastin, collagen, witch hazel, wheatgerm, carrot, green clay, thyme, propolis, etc..
The methods and frequency of application will obviously depend on the type of formulation and the required effect, but broadly speaking could be 1 to 3 times a day or more.
The following are some examples of compositions according to the invention.
