Abstract
Rapidly responsive energy storage means (100) enable the creation of a multi-port DC bus (108) in a UPS (102), enabling the multi-port DC bus ( 108) to couple a plurality of intermittent DC sources ( 114, 122, 120) and intermittent DC loads ( 118, 135, 152). The invention includes renewable energy power systems (122) with a UPS (102)having a multi-port DC bus (108) and a responsive energy storage means (116) electrically coupled to the multi-port DC bus (108). An embodiment includes a renewable energy power system (122) with a UPS (102) having a multi*port DC bus (108) having at least one coupler (195) in addition to the minimum of three required for a UPS (102) to operate. The additional coupling (195) is adapted to couple either a DC load or a DC source to the multi-port DC bus (108). A responsive energy storage means (116) is coupled to supply power to the multi-port DC bus (108) and is operable to maintain a substantially constant power level on the multi-port DC bus (108).
