Abstract

Methods and systems for assigning network addresses in a wireless communication system are disclosed. One such method includes receiving a first request message from a mobile device at a first device serving node, where the first request message requests assignment of a network address to the mobile device. The method further includes sending a second request message from the first device serving node to a second device serving node, where the second request message corresponds with the first request message. In response to the second request message, a network address is assigned to the mobile device from a pool of network addresses being managed by the second device serving node and a first response message is sent from the second device serving node to the first device serving node. The first response message is responsive to the second request message and includes the assigned network address. The method also includes sending a second response message from the first device serving node to the mobile device, where the second response message is responsive to the first request message and includes the assigned network address.
